Hello PAers!
I am doing a report that includes information about Penny Arcade, and I wanted to include one of the PA comic strips to accompany the explanation of "What Penny Arcade is" - however, I am having a tough time trying to choose one!
The criteria are:
- It must be SFW (it IS going into a formal report)
- It must try to epitomize the soul of Penny Arcade
- It must appeal to all audiences, not just specifically gamers (most of those I am presenting not are not gamers at all)
I know it's a high bar, but if you have a favourite comic that comes to mind that you think would fit, please post it!
I couldn't find it in the archives, but there's one where G&T are playing online scrabble (or something), and Gabe spells churl, then reveals he doesn't actually know what it means, having only spelled it by plugging in letters randomly. This enrages tycho.
ed: somehow I didn't think to search the archives for 'churl'
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
I'm rather partial to this one, though it has no words. It certainly epitomizes the "joy of gaming" part of Penny Arcade, though. [img][/img]
I like this one, but I think the Mega Man 9 Effect does the same thing, and may be more relatable to a non-gaming audience then Kirby riding a rainbow.
Even if they don't know who Mega Man is, they'll still be able to relate to something in their life that makes them feel like a little kid again, and a desire to share that thing with others.
But riding on a rainbow with an anthropomorphic pink marshmallow? Maybe not so much.
That's probably the perfect comic. It's funny, it's crude/inappropriate but still safe for work, it has one of the famous Penny Arcade in-jokes (the Merch shirts), it references what they do and also how they've gone from a couple of guys making a video game webcomic to cartoonists famous enough to be asked to talk at actual elemntary schools (because this is a comic based on something they actually did) and it doesn't require any knowledge of video games at all.

For some reason, it is smaller than it used to be.
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
It does say "balls" but, I love the art and the subject.
Also:
Steam: abunchofdaftpunk | PSN: noautomobilesgo | Lastfm: sjchszeppelin | Backloggery: colincummings | 3DS FC: 1392-6019-0219 |
This is probably one of the more representative comics.
one of my favorites
How can I make the picture show up in this post? I'm failing incredibly
Also the "free waffels" one.
This would be my choice.
I liked the placenta sandwiches comic, too.
Alternatively:
A lot of comics contain profanity, but if that's okay, there are a lot more contenders off the top of my head!
edit: hm i guess 'cock' is considered profanity never mind then!

I really love the father POV they've been having since they spawned

But yeah, the Clawshrimp is the first one that comes to mind for me.
Claw shrimp is pretty much the answer, though.
...It's a long shot.

Different things are acceptable in different work environments
edit: Another father/son one
Yep.
