Has anyone determined what the benefit is to restarting a particular time node? It seems like there are multiple endings per time node, but I want to verify that before actually taking the time to do it. I'm assuming the multiple endings depend on your decisions?
As an aside...I'm about 5 hours in and I'm really enjoying this game. The time jumping reminds me a lot of Chrono Trigger and it sounds like this story arc kinda follows that one in the sense that the end of time is very Lavosy.
There are things like ending a chapter a different way
(early spoilers)
Like killing Atlas without the machine vs killing him with it
Also, Live Triggers give various rewards depending on which/how many you do and what you select for each. Selecting the serious option x times in a chapter will give you a different adornment than selecting the funny option x times, for example.
Is there any blatant strategy guide bait early on in this? My guide's clearly not going to arrive before the game and I'd like to avoid a repeat of FFXII where I ended up starting again after 9hrs because I'd fucked up the Zodiac Spear and wanted to 100% it.

Literally nothing is missable, thanks to time travel.
Wasn't clear from the demo, but are each of the roles on different crystariums? They all seemed to advance along the same one but at different levels.
1 giant crystarium, each point (node) on it you can pick what class to level up. Apparently some of the nodes are bigger than others and give you a specific bonus to leveling up.
So you can't max every role?
Also are abilites assigned by certain nodes or just how many points you've spent in that role?
Yes, you can max every class and almost certainly will. Abilities get unlocked as you level up a role; it doesn't matter which node you use, the node size determines the stat gain is all.
Oh I see, so you could be a level 1 ravager but still have all the abilities because you are a 60 commando.
Oh I see, so you could be a level 1 ravager but still have all the abilities because you are a 60 commando.
Nah, you get abilities as you level up the job. Level Medic up to 10 and you get Esuna and the like. The abilities aren't fixed to nodes like they were in XIII, they just show up on the node when you'll level the selected job up to the appropriate level.
Also, I think most of the music in this game is fantastic. Most memorable soundtrack since X (or maybe X-2, I liked its main theme).
I like the music well enough in the game, even though some is a bit jarring, but if I were just listening to it without playing, I'd probably not like it.

I noticed every so often a square treasure chest appears and gives me random rewards presumably based on what chat options I selected throughout that time period so far. I presume if you restart the time period those chests respawn and are different.
I do wonder how extensive the differences are. For example apparently in the second time period (And in the demo) I had the option to go kick the shit out of Atlas or apparently go find his CPU core and blow the shit out of it instead. So... Is one designed to be done later on when I restart the level, or what?

Nothing really massive, but just to be on the safe side
Beating him without weakening him will unlock a different ending, I hear. It's also really difficult and definitely a late/post-game endeavor.
Doot doot doot, restarting my game 6 hours in because I just found out about optimal large node bonuses. Do I have OCD? You better believe it!
So I will put this in LARGE CAPS! There ARE PERMANENTLY MISSABLE BONUSES.
When you level a LARGE node, there are bonuses based on what class you level up on that node. If you level a:
Commando +2 STR
Ravager + 2 MAG
Sentinel + 6HP
Medic + 6HP
Saboteur (from ODD to EVEN) + 2 STR
Saboteur (from EVEN to ODD) + 2 MAG
Synergist (from ODD to EVEN) + 6 HP
Synergist (from EVEN to ODD) + 2 MAG
So for example, if you want Noel to have Max STR, when a large node is next, level up either Commando or Saboteur from odd to even. You will eventually run out of opportunities to level his STR, so for the rest you can fill in magic or health as you desire.
Example 2, if you want Serah to have Max MAG, when a large node is next, level up either Ravager, Saboteur from even to odd, or Synergist from even to odd.
How you want to build you character is up to you, having this information just helps you plan.
Man I'm so glad I don't give a shit about min/maxing cause you people are fucking nuts

Grr had the game lock up on me twice just now. Both times it happened was when I pulled up the crystarium for my pulsework sentinel. Game just stopped and the audio cut out. I'm on 360 btw.
Luckily thanks to auto save I lost almost no progress, but still annoying. Guess i'll feed his ass to this gray flan i just picked up. That'll learn him.

I like that aspect of this game. Hopefully we'll see that same concept repeated in other time nodes. It works with the whole time travel concept.
That brings up a good point as well: I think they did a very good job of using the time traveling concept to their advantage. It makes sense in the story frame and it provides great replay opportunities that are segmented...rather than the traditional "new game" approach.

They warned me about the l'cie and he was a total push over, so I thought maybe fighting him was a valid option. Nope, one shot the party! :P
Side note: I was not expecting side quests to pop up from talking to people! They're even pretty fun and interesting. Also, rewarding!

Depending on how you level up your crystarium, some stat gains are missable. You could end up with more HP or magic when you want strength, for example.
I'm just waiting for there to be some end game boss that does an absurd amount of damage and everyone being short some HP because they were avoiding getting some...
3 DS I hear is pretty assy. 4 PSP is pretty good though although I hear 4 DS is a bit better. 4 PSP does have the benefit of having the 4-2 Wii game + all the DLC, so...

Did you have to start the entire time period over, or were you given the option to change your mind?
I just caught (tameable monster spoiler, nothing plot related)
A Gigantaur. It's massive. And adorable. I need to go through and look at adornments on it...unfortunately, it's a Synergist so I don't actually...need it.
Serah gets the best / most important buff by "SAB Even." That means if my SAB level *is currently EVEN* and I'm on a heavy node, go SAB? Or does it mean if I'm odd and going SAB *will make it EVEN* go for it?

One of the videos I saw of someone fighting Omega had him have (tameable monster spoiler, sorta, not really, nothing plot related):
3 different Chocobos, all three having different colors and classes -- 1 healer, 1 buffer, 1 attacker.
The attacker did it's limit break when Omega was stunned and did like 3000 / 4000 damage a hit for a few minutes. It was glorious.

If you want to up Magic, then when your current node is a large one, level up either:
Ravager, Even Leveled Sab, Even Leveled Syn
So, a level 34 Syn/Sab going to level 35 will give you a magic boost, a level 35 to 36 sab/syn will not.

Whetever the CURRENT level is. Not what it will become after using the node.
So the formula Magic Pink posted assumes a physical Noel and a magic Serah?
Yeah, but you can easily do it the other way. I think their maxes go higher for a Magic Serah and Physical Noel but I haven't been able to find actual numbers. I don't think it would be noticable.
edit: Oh, apparently the reason is that later in the game, Noel gets a weapon that uses his STR for MAG and Serah gets the reverse.
Also bring back a competent music director. Half the music in XIII-2 is shit.
Huh? No it's not.
lol opinions and all but yeah, yeah it is. This is some of the worst vidja game music I've ever heard and I'm definitely not alone in thinking that. Before I knew anything at all about the game, all I heard was that the music was like having an ear infection.
And you'd still be totally wrong. Hell, the first hub's music alone disproves that. You're not alone, but you're definitely in a shrinking minority.
I don't mind the music. It's not classic Final Fantasy, but I still wouldn't call it bad. Though if someone doesn't like the music, that's great. It's their opinion.

Having been on political blogs and watched a few talking heads in my time I must say that yes, an opinion CAN be wrong.
The reviews cite the music as being bad but I have not noticed anything offensive about it. It's mostly forgettable, which is... almost worse of a sin.

The crazy part is that only two or three reviews out of all of them have said anything like the music being bad. Even Kotaku ended up enjoying the OST, when they had previously run an entire article on Crazy Chocobo.
General reaction to the OST has become increasingly favorable as people are playing the game. It's good to see.
I definitely think unmemorable is something this OST can't be called, despite whatever opinion on it. It's diverse enough that something is going to get stuck in your head.

Man, I got an awesome Orion with 4500 HP, but he's already maxed at level 20. I don't want him to be sacrificed to another monster (especially after he ate Flannister to gain his power), but he's starting to get outclassed.
Don't worry, Flannister the Second is now a Medic with a party-wide heal Feral Link.

New favorite FF city. Beautiful.
My Flanborg (COM) currently has, like, 450+ of both attack and magic, and my Gremlin (RAV) has over 600 magic. They do most of the damage for me.
