setting aside the part where the people responsible for this did clone high, they also managed to make an incredibly clever and funny movie out of 21 jump street, of all things
a lego movie is way down on the degree of difficulty chart from that, I think
well if they were going to complain that a movie is anti-business, one where the villain is literally named lord business would be a pretty easy target, I guess
WE ARE FROM PLANET DUPLO, AND WE ARE HERE TO DESTROY YOU.
Also throwing Bionicle under the bus.
Oh my god I can't believe I forgot about that second moment.
I swear though, there was not a single moment that was anything other than insanely fantastic. Even the crappy mandatory romance had the world's greatest payoff.
You're the hero she deserves had me DYING.

Yeah, the animation was incredible. I'm still slightly vexed by the way they moved the arms but I know that they had to and it would probably be worse if they didn't, but auuuugh.
We saw the trailer for this movie, and felt it oscillated between "very funny" and "maybe trying too hard"
For those who have seen this film, is it actually funny? I really, REALLY want to see a movie, but there just isn't much out now! If this is good, I'd love for it to break the movie drought

When Wyld Style talks about all of the different worlds and then she briefly goes OH AND A BUNCH OF OTHERS WE DON'T NEED TO MENTION that were all weird off-shoots and sub-brands like Bionicle and they flash by the screen.

Such an amazing movie.
But this thread is also incredible to go back and read through. The comments are choice.
This is the best movie Shaqueille O'Neil has ever been in.
Bigger, realer spoiler:
It's in the top 3-4 that Billy Dee Williams has ever been in too.
Also the comment from page 3 about this being 80% CGI 20% real lego makes a lot more sense after seeing the movie.
I love that Emmett is just the generic, original Lego minifig face. In a world where every minifig seems to be unique in some way, it's AWESOME seeing him like that, and having it be a plot point.
I am gonna get as many of my friends as possible to go see this. I will own all the sets from the movie (I'm up to 4).
this is EXACTLY how I played with Lego as a kid. you build a bunch of weird misshapen vehicles and ships and things and have a war where absolutely everything is destroyed and every last Lego guy is killed off, and then start all over

I feel bad, because I don't remember doing this. I mean, I think I did... but I always thought my ability to make good stuff sucked.
Hence why this movie was so profound for me. I don't think outside the box enough, and it makes me sad.
I always followed the directions and built it the way it was supposed to look until you move around and take it out to play with a couple times and pieces started coming off
Then it was fair game to make whatever the heck I wanted
Seriously one of the best movies I've seen animated or otherwise, and I think the only animated movie that's ever made me laugh so hard I've cried
What got me there was "I...I CAN BUILD A SPACESHIP!" followed by five minutes of "SPAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCEEEESSSHIIIPPPPPPP SPACESHIPSPACESHIPSPACESHIPSPACESHIPSPACHIP"
Marry me Charlie Day
Although I was actually surprised at how real it got
Especially at the beginning, with stuff like "wait, be put to sleep?!" (funny TV show comes on) "Hahaha, what was I worried about?"
It felt like I was watching a children's adaption of Brave New World for a second

The reveal of what the Secret Weapon was a shock. I was like, "Noooooooo..."

I absolutely loved this movie, which was really expected, but still!
Edit: There are two deals going on.
I kind of can't believe a lego movie turned out this well
this movie has no business being this clever
I remember when people were saying this about the lego games.

I am actually slightly tempted to take advantage of this offer...
This is self-parody at this point
Fox News was acquired by The Onion and nobody told anyone
My favorite gag was probably
Even though it came at the very start I absolutely loved The Prophecy, as well as the bit with the Cat Lady Neighbour.
And really goddamn every joke in it was perfect.
Also throwing Bionicle under the bus.
I couldn't stop.

I feel like I was the only one that got it in my theatre.
Also:
Only made better by Billy Dee

It's really goddamn clever start to finish.
It is fantastic.

Oh are you a dj
What no that is just my name
Really? Wild style? Like on your birth certificate it just says wild style
I was cracking up.

Every now and then I'd pour them all out on the bedroom floor and make a little hole in the middle and build for days

I could listen to it for five hours!
