Decided to use my Breton character, who I've been using in the Mage Guild for a while now, and just use him for the Dark Brotherhood quests.... mostly because of Shadowmere, but also because the only female Breton bachelorette in the game is available only if you do one of the Dark Brotherhood quests... and she is, surprisingly, not ugly.
Oh yeah, and tons of cash for doing what I do best: Killing the FUCK out of people.
You know what a bad time to get attacked by a dragon is? When you're trying to sneak into that meadery on the island near Rifton to set fire to their hives. NOT A GOOD TIME BUDDY.
More generally, I kind of feel like a bastard doing the thieves guild quests. Not quite so warm and cuddly as previous theives guilds.
The bad ass thing to do would have been to use the dragon to set fire to the hives.

Just made myself a pair of gloves and boots each that increase two-handed damage by 27%
I thought I was hitting hard before with my Epic Skysteel Greatsword, but now it's up to 90 damage. I killed a dragon that crawled out of its grave before its skin had finished reapearing.
When I get two more grand soul gems, I'll be making a matching ring and amulet.

I think you just sold me on enchanting. Potions and poisons are not enough!
The menu in this game can go fuck itself. why the hell can't I assign spells to a number button? why can't I use the mouse to select things. why do I want to punch someone in the throat every time I want to equip something?

Open favorites menu and press the number key you wish to assign to whatever items.

where can I find some mines? I don't have any on my map yet.
Mines are marked on your radar as two picks crossing each other. Actual mineable spots are just in the world and aren't indicated on the map. You need a pick axe to mine anything.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
So yeah. Bought a full Elven armor set, got some unenchanted necklace and ring, and enchanted everything that allowed me (4 pieces) with "Fortify Destruction", which means that each of the 4 pieces I enchanted make my Destruction spells cost 25% less... So now, I've got free Destruction spells
Now all battles are basically "summon Frost Atronach and then spam the hell out of the most damaging destruction spell I can find" - which is awesome
I managed to kill a dragon in something like 20 seconds (a single landing) just by summoning a frost atronach and then spamming firebolt.

Mines are pretty much always full of mineable spots though

Not always, I ran across one where there was nothing but broken dreams.

I whittled a dragon down to half health, but when it landed it did at the top of a steep mountain and it took me a while to loop around to find the path up. I found it dead next to a dead spider and a dead tholmar justicar.
I"m a little impressed. I wonder who finished it off, though. I suppose the justicar must have had a partner.
Mage: "Frostbite you sonufa-"
Me: NOPE *Shield Bash*
And fighting melee people is cool too, because with the Quick Reflexes perk, time slows when a power attack comes your way. It's the game telling you to, yes, Shield Bash.

So I'm getting a theme here from what you are saying. Something about using a shield for something, but I can't quite make it out.

I hate to resurrect this ol' mages suck debate, but I've got one about to hit 20 and I'm wondering if I should just back out now. He's been lots of fun to play (Runes are particularly hilarious) but with the discussion here and the lack of damage scaling I'm wondering if maybe a reroll is in order. I've been kinda itching to try my Nord Artificer anyway... but I don't want to abandon my lizardman!
I'm pretty sure warrior/archer damage tops out in a similar way and at a lower dps, it just might feel less boring because reaching that maximum depends on maxing 4 skill sets instead of one.
I made a game! Hotline Maui. Requires mouse and keyboard.

I was overloaded with the spoils of that dragon fight and trying to figure out what to do. Then I talk to some guy and he calls me a milk drinker, so I brawled him.
I kicked his ass, and now he's carrying my dragon bones for me. Violence provides!
My get rich quick scheme is to buy every iron ingot I can find, every petty/lesser Soul Gem (prefer them empty to be cheaper), and craft a bajillion daggers, then enchant them with Absorb HP/Banish/the undead flee enchant.
I gain Smithing, Enchanting, and each dagger sells for 250+ and cost a quarter or less than that.
In whiterun the general goods vendor will buy daggers, and three blacksmiths all will buy daggers. Just wait 48 hours and sell to the whole group again.
This thread moves stupid fast. I keep wanting to quote people back on page 49.
Midway Dark Brotherhood:
Just finished the wedding. I pulled it off flawlessly the first time, but then my follower decided to go after all the guards. Reload, dismiss, retry. I don't know what happened but I made it out without anybody noticing me at all. When I was scouting the area, I was a little miffed to find that the most direct escape route (over the ramparts and several hundred feet down into the ocean) was blocked by invisible walls. I was sure that was what I was supposed to do.
Solitude was exactly the opposite of what I was expecting - I headed there via the Hjallmarch and didn't notice the gigantic city looming above me until I came out of the swamp by the harbour. The whole 'fortress so large it blends into the mountain' is a pretty standard trope but this is the first time I've felt like I truly understand the concept. I was staring at the city the whole trip and it never occurred to me that that was what it was. Solitude isn't a city, it's a terrain feature.
Shearpoint:
Fuck Shearpoint. I ran across that place at level 10. I plan to come back at 50+ and I plan to rape that lich (?) until he calls me Alduin.
Thieves Guild quest line completion spoilers:
I'm not finished yet, but I accidentally spoiled the power you get at the end. What I don't understand is how it differs in any way from the top tier sneak perk. If anybody would be so kind as to clarify that I'd appreciate it.
Regarding the UI:
I can see why it gets so much grief, and most complaints I've seen are legitimate. Almost any suggestion I've seen in the thread would be better. That said, I have had no problems with it whatsoever and do not understand how anyone else could. (I understand that they do, I just don't understand how that's possible in any sort of objective sense. It could have been better, but it has not hindered me in any conceivable way and not once have I thought "this UI is impacting how much fun I'm having.")
Favourites should have been a 16-slot radial menu with icon. Each of the eight directions would have an item assigned to X and one assigned to A along an inner and outer ring. 16 items, all available with two button presses plus joystick. Speaking of favourites, a protip: At a certain point, using the favourites will take more clicks than just using the main menu. If your favourites menu is longer than any individual inventory section, take that section out and navigate to it manually. I use favourites for poisons, potions and shouts only and it's much more useful. No more scrolling past all my other favourites to switch bows when my actual weapon list is only 6 items long.
So, I wonder if it breaks theme for a mage to join the Companions...I've kept most of my characters in "theme" as it where. My rogue joined the thieves guild and DB, my warrior joined the companions...
I know mages are a welcome member of the DB, and my plan was to do a dark elf vampire mage assassin guy, but I so enjoyed the Companion quest line I might want to repeat it (plus I'll need a burly tank companion...

That works until you run into a dragon that yells ZUN HAAL VIIK at you. Which happened to me with a higher level blood dragon.
Any Two-Handers out there that chose a particular weapon and ran with it? (Axe, Sword, Hammer) What did you pick and why?
I'm using axes because Gimli fandom. Thinking of going back to swords for the impale. As far as stats and such Swords are the fastest lowest damage, axes are the middle, and Hammers are the slowest but the hit hardest. They are the blacksmith fat kids.

So is there any alternative to lockpicking? It feels like a waste of a skill, but my OCD won't allow me to not open chests even though I know there's always only poopy poop loot in them.

Resist the urge to shout at the shelves in the store for the fun of it.
He hasn't killed a single dragon yet!
It's like Robin Hood if Robin killed zombies and stole money from merchants he just purchased stuff from.

I was afraid I was going nuts when I saw a Lavendar bush and was like "gotta pick 'em!....shit, real life."

Greatsword, because it has the coolest finisher animations. In the end that's the only thing that matters.
