I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't sued Apple for releasing these games. Wasn't the iOS app store supposed to be some sort of walled garden of quality where Apple had actual people looking at each game/app for quality and stuff? Seems kinda ridiculous that these things get through.

Just finished NSMB2. Well, beat the final castle in all 9 worlds, anyways. I don't really feel motivated at all to seek out all the hidden exits and the handful of levels I missed. Maybe I'm just Mario'd out, but overall this one really didn't draw me in. There wasn't anything particularly memorable about it. It felt more like an expansion pack for the first NSMB than a sequel. I was particularly disappointed the 3D was not utilized at all. The team behind NSMB2 could learn a lot from Mutant Mudds.
I'm torn. On the one hand I haven't even finished all the levels in the game yet and likely wouldn't play the extra levels anyway. On the other hand, I want to encourage Nintendo to do this sort of stuff and DLC.

Well, I broke down and bought all 3 coin rush packs. Really enjoyed the Nerve Wrack Pack... should have had a lot more levels like that in the main game. The other 2 packs were so-so. I really wish these levels weren't relegated to coin rush... would be nice to have a DLC world where you can progress through the levels and replay them normally.
Just played through the Gold Classics Pack, and holy shit. If the rest of the packs are anything like that, I might be willing to pay for them.
Was just thinking the same thing. Was so weird... every pipe I went through, every vine I climbed, seemed to take me to a whole other classic Mario level. Kinda trippy, and totally awesome.
So, I was thinking about picking up one of the Mario games for the 3DS soon, but I'm not sure which one. Thoughts?
I liked the other New Super Mario Bros titles but I always thought they were a bit too easy, unless you were collecting all the coins, which I lost motivation to do once I beat Bowser.
About a week ago I finished playing the hell out of Super Mario 3D Land. I'm not a huge Mario fan. 64 was the one I really poured a lot of time into, though I played Galaxy 1 and 2 to varying amounts.
I did about 95% of the stuff in 3D Land, which I never do anymore, since I have a backlog. Most games, I beat the main quest or whatever and call it done. But 3D Land is so much fun, I had to keep playing it. Finished all the Special Levels. Played a bit as Luigi. Got all the coins and postcards. I did everything but hit the top of the flagpole on every level and beat every level again as Luigi.
It's a really fun game, and I kept 3D on at all times. But I tend to do that with every 3DS game anyway. This one calls for it though. Without the 3D on, I can imagine having extra trouble with landing jumps.
Anyway, just wanted to chime in and say it's awesome.
The Tanooki/Raccoon suit kind of trivializes the difficulty, though. I think it's an easier game than 64, but it's been a while since I played those.
But I seem to remember the later Bowser levels and clock level in 64 being harder than anything in 3D Land.
That's not to say 3D Land doesn't get tough, but if you're expecting it to be tougher than 64 or some of the crazy shit in Galaxy 2, maybe looks elsewhere.
But if you're looking for fun and joy and merriment, look no further.
I personally prefer the Galaxy games to any other 3D Mario game. I will say that I suck at Mario 64 and never actually beat it, even though I've owned it on N64,NDS and Wii VC.

Galaxy is really the only 3D Mario I have actually liked a lot :P Sunshine was terrible (pretty, but terrible... they somehow screwed up the good control scheme that Mario 64 had).
Mario 64 felt too small with only a handful of levels you were forced to replay a bunch and not a ton of actual "Mario" elements (like all the old powerups were gone and everything but the Wing Cap was 100% worthless except to solve some arbitrary puzzle)
I thought Galaxy 1 was bareky ok, but Galaxy 2 was HOLY SHIEK THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.
I almost had the opposite reaction. I loved Galaxy 1 a lot. Galaxy 2 by all rights is a better game but yet somehow I could not get into it the same way. Maybe just because Galaxy 1 felt fresh and Galaxy 2 felt more like an expansion pack, I dunno.
Also Galaxy 2 had that stupid crap with the switch platforms that required you to waggle the Wiimote to spin and that shit NEVER worked 100% of the time for me. I died so many times in that level due to the game not responding right to my controls. I really wish I could have just played the damn game with a regular joystick :P (I would be curious to go back and try it with a motion plus Wiimote tho... I felt like that one was way more responsive in Zelda than my original one ever was in anything else)

Edit: How long until some goosey "journalist" uses this as "why nintendo should develop for iPhone"?

The video paused for buffering in the middle of Iwata's bow. It was awesome. :P

Golden fireball is absurdly powerful.
The soda jungle level started of trite then just busted put into sheer madness.

I'm probably the only one who doesn't really like Mario 64 :P Not that it's a bad game or anything, I just don't like it as much as other Mario games.
