AbsoluteZeroThe new film by Quentin KoopantinoRegistered Userregular
I was going to step away from this for a couple days, but I just couldn't. I've made a lot of updates to this course, I actually hit the object limit on several categories. Without further adieu...
King Koopa Keep (v2) 2E62-0000-0044-7F08
Can you dethrone the King of the Koopas? If you are looking for a challenge that isn't complete and total bullshit, I think you will be quite pleased. Let me know what you think!
The Basics 2: Electric Boogaloo
C765-0000-0044-B939
more messing around and unlocking tools really. trying to emulate classic Mario as much as possible while allowing the player to be rewarded for exploration.
one of the hardest parts is figuring out placement of power ups.
I found the COOLEST level in 100-Mario Challenge, but had to get up and do something. I left my Gamepad plugged in so it wouldn't lose power, but my WiiU auto-powered down after an hour and now I can't get it back...I wanted to Star and Comment on it so I could come back later...
It was a puzzle level based on manipulating turtle shells to access the next screen in SMB style (so no grabbing), and it was SO COOL. It wasn't perfect but, hey, I was impressed.
Chain Chomp Warehouse is a very unusual stage where my main focus was creating a strong and interesting theme. It's basically a ground-up re-envisioning of a previous stage, Chain Chomp Cargo Ship, where I think I really lost focus and failed to capitalize on the chief concept the way I should have. I'm especially proud of the main storage room, which was the original seed idea for the stage.
Chain Chomp Assembly Line is probably the closest thing I've done to a conventional Mario stage so far, where I pose a specific mechanical challenge and then iterate on it a few times. The second half is maybe a little tacked on, but I really like the aesthetic of it. Plus I didn't want the stage to be too short, but the amount of spin-jumping the first half requires is already probably going to be near-impossible for the average player without ramping up the challenge even more. I'm sure the players here can handle it, though.
Both stages have a little out-of-the-way secret if you want an extra challenge (although the one in the warehouse is kind of brutal...more of an easter egg than anything I expect a reasonable player to figure out and execute).
Two down, two more to go! Well, one more to go, but the one that's already finished is C-4 and I don't want to upload them out of order.
a short castle. I actually rather enjoy the obstacles here. the 180 second timer makes you feel like you have to rush when all the obstacles are based around being patient. thought about pushing the timer even lower but my first thought is "how would a young kid enjoy this?"

God, I am so behind playing everyone's levels... maybe this weekend I can catch up I see so many cool new ones posted but I have no time to play.
Side note, I think I am changing my song to another that is hopefully short enough to work. It's also a very complex one, so who the hell knows. I still wish I could do the original (I was going to do Portal 2's "Want You Gone"... the spitting Piranha Plants even make a really good approximation of the weird background instrument thing.. but I timed the auto scroll of an entire stage out to playing the song on my ipod and it barely got through one verse -_-)
This time, I went for a more story-based level than a mechanic gimmick level. And I tried to make the obstacles follow less of one theme and be more Mario-ish.
Anyway, here's "Infiltrate Bowser's Dreadnought!"
B222-0000-0044-E3D4
Just a warning; it's a long one. Actually ran out of ground tiles on one side.
So I'm a little disappointed in the fireballs you see in castles. The ones that jump up and down. They spawn when Mario is X distance, which seems logical, but it messed up my ideas that I just scratched them.
One last musical level before I go to bed...really should've gone to bed ages ago.
Like I say in the Miiverse comment, I used up almost every object you possibly can on this. Enemies and objects like POW blocks are one pool, powerups are another, and they're just about all used up. Chords are expensive! As a result it is sadly pretty short, but I did what I could.
played some levels and left some comments. seeing your guys' work is inspiration so I made a more intricate level:
Monty's Pipe Dream
C1C1-0000-0044-F544
this one went through a lot of editing passes because i made some parts way too hard. i like the winding path idea, it gives you a preview of the obstacles to come so you can plan ahead.
I had a great time making this level. It's a classic NES castle. You watch patterns, wait for an opening, and make your move. This is how I expect everyone to play it.
What made it enjoyable is that it's also a speed run level. It may not look like it, but it can be beaten in about 10 seconds.
Here's my finalized versions of Mushroom Gymnastics and Balloon Fight.
Mushroom Gymnastics 2.0
4E30-0000-0044-EDBA
A short, tough romp. Give it some love!
Balloon Fight Final
C23E-0000-0044-F7B7
Balloon Fight features the same tough, and accurate, Balloon Fight gameplay but now has coins for easier pathing and a hidden checkpoint to make it less frustrating.

Yeah I think I give up trying to make a music level. I mapped out the notes you are allowed to do and it's really restrictive. Like, only an octave and a half really. On top of that, the song I wanted to do was really complex and I couldn't seem to get it to sound right. Maybe I couldn't do the right tempo.
I really want to make a level where a hidden secret gives you a room which spells out in coins the code for another level.
However I also know that random people get confused enough jumping on a Goomba. Writing down a code might be expecting a little much.
Also it turns out letting a 2 year old create a level for you is a great way to unlock stuff. After a minute or so of her playing with the pad and randomly placing hundreds of blocks I had an unlock.

I haven't unlocked comments yet. That is much easier! I want to set up a treasure hunt now that bounces you between each
You guys are turning out levels faster than I can play them all. Also, it sucks that I haven't unlocked anything cool yet, so my creations aren't up to snuff.
I will definitely give the Darude level a shot tonight.

You don't need to unlock em. Just play your level and press pause>comment at the spot you want your hint/comment.

Thanks! I hadn't figured this out either.
The comments are rather dangerous. I have died several times while reading the comments on various levels.
You can make it so comments are just on the gamepad and then the TV just shows little comment icons to show you to check the gamepad. Or you can go vice versa.
Edit: while playing, hit pause, then there is a TV/gamepad icon you can toggle at the bottom.

D'oh. Of course, I've actually done this! I briefly thought you meant that there were hint blocks, like in SMW.
got home from work, made a very short course for you jumping enthusiasts:
Mind the Gap

this feels super easy to me but I know some folks find bouncing off enemies for more air challenging and/or annoying. are people more forgiving of that sort of thing in shorter courses?
