i dunno, galio really does do fantastically in solo top. he's one of the best. he also counters a few FotM champs in mid lane (ask WhiteShark about the leblanc vs. galio matchup sometime)
You mean an MR stacking galio can beat an AP assassin? I am shocked
Why is it that ranged isn't better than bruiser at solo top?
A couple reasons: Most ranged champs are squishy and have no good escapes, so they tend to lose on ganks alone because top is such a long lane. Later in the matchup a tanky jungler + tanky bruiser can also just tower-dive a single ranged squishy champion, so even defensive play doesn't save you. Ranged champs also tend to lack sustain, which can cause them to lose the lane even if they win individual damage trades.
Ranged champs who avoid these issues in various ways tend to do pretty well top lane. Kennen is a good example.

you mean like, ranged AD? they're more fragile - more susceptible to ganks and more likely to lose a trade assuming the bruiser ever got in on them... and with the multitude of bruisers that go top frequently now that don't give a fuck about your range (riven, volibear, irelia, et al) it's hard to keep them out
Oh great, this patch broke the colorblind mod I'd been using. I remember seeing a really quick and dirty fix on the official forums (a Riot post) but I can't seem to find it anymore. It had something to do with changing some healthbars to black. Anyone remember that?
Otherwise it's bye bye to LoL. It's nigh unplayable right now.
A huge sigh of relief. The mod was very quickly updated and it works again.
I so wish Riot would implement their own colorblind mode though. About 8% of white males have this red-green colorblindness, that's a fairly sizable part of your customer base.
What mod is this, Mukk? ItzWarty's mod was last updated for Graves.
With his range? Not likely, unless they were both brushing (ah ah) up against the grass.

One of the biggest reasons is that all the great bruisers have great gap closers. If Nasus slows caitlin she nets away and usually doesn't get super owned unless there's a jungler to stun or slow her but wukong's dash/hit is so monstrous that all the damage is done by the time she nets away

I actually killed him once pretty early but that's only because we stole their blue at level 1 and gave it to me ensuring that I would have the mana to harass him down, otherwise it sucks

TL;DR Morde and Mundo are going to get buffed , Apparently they think its simple to fix morde but Mundo is a bit more complicated.

Galio has always been cool. He lost a bit of interest after his release when the tanky dps meta arrived and people started favouring getting bruisers with semi-initiation over tanks. He's still a good lane pusher and siege defender. The problem is partly that he has a few counters; in particular, Vayne (oh look, another way for Vayne to counter tanks lol!). But also, Alistar, in particular, back when he had 2.4 AP ratio, and was facestomping, dissuaded a lot of Galio play.
On a sorta related note, it's interesting how many professional teams first pick their AP or tops. These are the two lanes most likely to see counter-picks, and it's seems silly to me that people don't open with their support + AD choices, and pick the sensitive picks afterwards. Though I can understand why people pick in that order in solo queue, of course.
...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.

That's interesting on picking order - I've not played much draft at all, but we had a game last night where we opened with our support (Taric), then I picked a character that could play mid or solo-top comfortably (Kennen) while another guy picked our AD (Caitlyn), and we went from there. We were limited by the fact that we don't have huge champion libraries, so picking for someone else then switching wasn't an option.
Speaking of which, are there any decent counters to Kassadin other than sending your AD there instead? I was doing okay against him with Kennen until he maxed his Q and had his Riftwalk available, but then he just had a tendency to shut me up and melt me without any AP items of note. Which is weird, I can never do that as Kassadin.

Galio pretty much stomps on any mage, and on top of this can beat several ad's top.
Gangplank
Rumble
Nasus
etc
are also weak against galio because they do a lot of their damage in little packets, which just heals Galio.
Leblanc when she goes after galio will at least do damage after bulwark, Gangplank ends up healing Galio 200 hp thanks to Gankplank's passive.

I keep meaning to start Galio again. Might do some duo-queue with Glal's Kennen and go bot, see how hilarious it is.
I mean, in theory, Idol of Durant pins them in place, Slicing Maelstrom -> Lightning Dash does a bunch of damage, once Idol runs out and damages them all, Kennen hits his Surge and stuns them all... should work out well, right?
Galio can safely farm against morg, but no ap can really shit on morg. Shes about the safest laner in existance. If morg kills you as galio you messed up, but there is no reason a morg should die to a galio either.

Ryze, Vlad, Cass and Soraka all dump on Morg in lane.
Annie can poop on Morg as well, although you will typically have to blow flash to do so.
From experience I can't say Morde feels like he needs buffing. I've still seen plenty of nigh-unkillable Mordes roaming around taking 1/4 of my hp off in a single attack.

I hate it when you are wrong, because I know that if I argue you won't admit it. ;oP
I might start playing warwick so I can get that skin, damn it looks good. The Akali one looks like absolute shit though. No thanks.
I abandoned my attempt at another rune page to get Warwick when the patch hit. I was so disappointed when the skin wasn't in the store.

So we had a game last night against a Nasus that went poorly and another one that went well but the second game featured my awesome jungle Irelia. So that made me wonder, is Irelia a good pick vs Nasus in top lane?

In my experience, you both sort of farm and regen any harassment damage.

Nope. Can't stop the fucker farming.
We had my Cho top against him, not to stop him farming, but to have some tankiness on the team. I held him off for a few minutes, but once he could take 25% of a minions health in one shot, I couldn't stop him. We only had success once Irelia came top to help damage him, then I could zone him cause he only had 20% health.
