and oh man im just remembering that disney made all the advertising for tangled feature the robber-guy because 'no one would watch a girl-centric movie'
Not all the advertising. Their tone in the Japanese trailer was different.
My only issue was thta we saw the 2d version and i seemed to have problems focusing on the outskirts of the movie shots. particularly in the wide landscape scenes. like I was trying to look at the rest of the image and it was blurry to the point of almost being painful to try and bring into focus. Of course that could just be me, but it was almost like they were forcing your eyes to the center of the scene. Which is understandable, but sometimes I just want to look at the edges!
other than that, worth the money, truly gorgeous, and will probably be getting the bluray when it comes out.
It's a consequence of the 3d. In order to have good 3d you need a narrow depth of field. So a lot more blur in background stuff, or those in front of the foreground. And rather than re-render the 2d version to clear that up, since it isn't such a big problem, they just used either the left or right eyed picture of the 3d for the 2d.
Screw all the bad reviews, this is easily the best Pixar movie since Ratatouille and the film that actually restores a little of my former faith in them
Now I just have to hope that Monsters University isn't garbage

I enjoyed the preview for it. I hope it turns out well.
I went into this movie expecting a large-scale, world-threatening evil from the witch, similar to Ursula and the Little Mermaid. Instead it was a small-scale, localized plot, similar to Toy Story in scale. I was, accordingly, disappointed on my first viewing. Still enjoyed it, but I was all, "Man, this is not what I thought this movie should be."
Saw it again with my little sister and HOLY SHIT IT IS THE BEST MOVIE you guys.
I still want to see the movie I envisioned the first time, though.
don't judge movies based on pre-determined expectations and you'll have a much better and more efficient time!
but I'm glad you liked it the second time
How often do people actually do this, especially when going to the movies? Based on trailers and whatnot you're gonna have some expectations at least.
I try not to but sometimes it's difficult.
Especially with a movie like Brave where there were trailers being shown everywhere. It wasn't quite what I expected either but I still really enjoyed it.
EDIT: Plus Mulan, while perhaps a part of the Disney Princess brand, is not in fact a princess. Boom, lawyer'd.
Damn! Bested by semantics.
Also just want to remind everyone the opening of this movie was fucking awesome.
Yes it was. Perfect foreshadowing, perfect little-Merida ("I missed"), and an absolutely stellar way to drive home the theme of bravery with
her father's face, tone, everything, as the bear falls on him and then BRAVE. Gave me chills.
I guess that's why I thought, at first, that the smaller scope did a disservice to that central theme of bravery. I was expecting them to be up against staggering odds, when really the climax of the movie is a single bear. It wasn't until the second viewing that I realized hey, that story had already happened -- back when their kingdom was forged -- and this was the story of how Merida, personally, came to share in that legacy.
just came back from this, it was excellent! a warning for the 3d though: i wouldnt really recommend 3d if you have problems with it, there are a ton of swooping action shots, horseback riding, dramatic twirls, just a bunch of head-ache causing stuff
outside of that though it was practically a two-hour episode of samurai jack's scotsman's family reunion, which is exactly what i wanted
Thanks for the warning. I have problems with 3D in motion because it always looks out of focus and it ruins the experience of letting my eyes just roam over every line and texture in a well-crafted piece of animation.
Chiming in late to say went to see it in 3D, found the 3D very nice, the wisps especially were lovely in 3D... and then I got home and got a headache so bad it bordered on migraine and I had to lay down until painkillers kicked in so that was a bummer. But it was worth it for those wisps, damn

Play the video game then because it is exactly what you described.
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.
Saw it with some friends the other day, and was pretty disappointed after the first third :-\ Did anyone else feel like the slapstick was way too much most of the time?
Luckily La Luna was AMAZING, easily as good as Day & Night. I hope Enrico Cassarossa directs a feature at Pixar soon!

This was a big worry from the trailers, but I thought the amount of it in-film was fine, and it certainly didn't negatively impact the emotion of the rest of the film
This film actually brought a damn tear to my eye
I can't even remember the last time a film has done that. It's been a really long time, though.

Oh hell yeah, much man tears were shed
when Elinor realizes what she's done and tries to pull Merida's bow from the fire. But then she turned into a bear and the movie turned into the three stooges or something. It was a really weird, disjointed experience

what IS new is having the protagonist have a mother that's not dead, dies, or is actually evil

don't be down or disappointed by a movie because it didn't match your pre-conceptions
better?
Listening to people leave the theater every night, a lot of people.
it makes watching movies much better.
Need some stuff designed or printed? I can help with that.
Nope, that's #2. Merida still wins.

As an ex-Disney Employee, I can say with total confidence that she is an Official Disney Princess.

Yes, as a part of the brand. When Princess is capitalized, yes she is.
But a lower-case princess? Nah.

I'm pretty sure Cars 2 bombed or least did well under expectations so don't hold your breath.
I have no idea what it is about other than on the art it's a red haired girl

Wow. I wonder if this is so bad it's funny or if it's so bad it just dully corrodes your soul for ninety minutes.
I stopped watching trailers. I enjoy movies much more now.
