Does anyone else have a problem with Lydia as a sneaky person? Not the problem where she aggros everything when I'm sneaking, I just put her on 'wait here' duty to fix that. But when me and my mule are roaming the countryside she'll up and disappear on me. Then she'll come running up much later on and scare the shit out of me. Hell, one time, I was fighting a Dragon, she disappeared on me, I kill the dragon, enter a dungeon, clear the dungeon, come out to go search for her body and then boom, she's behind me.
yeah, the slightly creepy fact is that odds are she was sneaking along behind you the whole time. pathing is a big problem in the land of endless slopes and mountains, especially if you're an idiot like me and try to climb mountains by spam jumping up them until I land on a snag of jutting terrain that lets me keep jumping. it's a guarantee that unless you rest after doing that you won't see lydia for the next ten minutes because she's going to tackle that same path by starting from the other end of skyrim.
You mean there's another way to climb up and down mountains?
Mountains remain one of my very least favorite things about Bethesda games. You can never quite tell when you're going to reach that point where the game's physics decide NOPE THAT INCLINE IS TOO STEEP BRO, there doesn't appear to be total consistency to it, and you waste time trying to get over peaks via impassable routes.

another fun way? nope, but most of the time the important word walls and shrines in the mountains have actual paths that I discover once I've already bunny hopped to the summit. oh well, paths are for henchmen and babies.

I want to know why my character can't climb on all fours or rappel down a mountain. It seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to implement.

So maybe enhanced climbing powers when you're a
werewolf?
I will say they did a nice job designing the mountain faces so it's relatively easy to get down without killing yourself; the rock outcroppings are almost always arranged so that you can work your way down by slide-jumping from one to the next. Of course, once again you can never quite tell when a jump is going to be too far. Fall 29 feet, take no damage. Fall 30 feet, INSTANT DEATH.
stand on a high point, use it to draw a bunch of schmucks to one spot, and then put an arrow in their skulls while they're all conveniently in my line of sight

Ugh, finally, my first Daedric sword. Upgraded that bad boy to Legendary and now with level 4 Armsman I am a death machine.
We tried nothin' and we're all outta ideas.

I'm on a mission, now. The game is stuttering more and more and it's starting to get to me, so I've got to optimize this biatch. Upgrading hardware is not an option, as I've got the absolute mostest I can fit into this aging motherboard.
Specs
AMD Phenom II 945 3.01Ghz
4 GB Ram
Geforce 460 GTX
Windows Vista 64
I get very subtle framerate loss when running around. Standing still and looking around is fine, smooth, and buttery. But when walking, it's like I'm missing a frame every time I take a step. It's almost like a head bob effect, but it's not. And it's very annoying. Oddly, it happens even if I set everything to the absolute bare minimum. So, I just run everything on Ultra and put up with it.
I have successfully become a 2h/1h warrior who wrecks shit without potions and a successful thief in the thieves guild both on the same character on expert difficulty. Level 25.
Since we got some complaints, I guess I'll butt in.
Be specific when spoiling stuff. Mentioning that you are spoil a huge story quest or a side quest or something. You don't have to be super anal about it, but at least give people a frame of reference for the spoiler.

@Figgy have you done the large address aware patch? That could make a fairly huge difference
Also Skyrim seems to be shit awful at rendering shadows, try dropping your shadow quality a notch and see if that helps

I did that, yes. I've also tried it with shadows at minimum and it still does it. Lowering shadows certainly does improve overall framerate, but it's the odd stuttering that I'm more concerned with. Sometimes even in a dungeon it'll happen in one room, but not the next. It's very weird.
I'm updating video drivers right now, so we'll see what that does. I had mid-October's and there's a late-October update. Not hopeful.

Or you could just load up ethereal shout and basejump like a boss.
Guys if you want to climb mountains effectively, get a horse. They can defy the laws of physics by moving at angles almost perpendicular to the surface and are great mountain climbers. Just remember, run up mountains but walk down to prevent fall damage.
Speaking of mountains, I was climbing one the other day and ran into a (maybe a mob spoiler?)
wispmother. So I started fighting her, no problem yo. Then she split into three god damn wispmothers and started icing my pants off. I ran and have not yet returned to the location. I assume I'll have to face her later for some quest. Revenge shall be sweet.

Yeah, I haven't gotten that one yet. How useful is it in actual combat?
So, how do I buy a house in Markarth? I've been doing the quests and such and I've done several for the steward but now he's not giving me one. He might have given another one to kill some dudes but I can't see a new marker on my map and I've completed all of the bounties for the papers in my inventory. Does anyone know if I'm missing something?

The way the buying of property usually goes is that you do the jarl a favour on a special quest and then you get the option.
For Markarth it was something like:
You will need to retrieve the shield carried by the jarls father, when you speak to him after having done enough quests for the city it should come up automatically as one of those "can I do anything for you?"

Talk to the Jarl.
You do a quest to get a shield. Woo
He just has the same dialogue options and the steward doesn't talk to me at all. I think it glitched or something, I'm pretty sure I got another bounty but I don't know where it's supposed to be. Goddamnit. :?

So NPCs dont ride horses at all in this game? Its weird cos they did in Oblivion. I havent seen a single person on horseback, everyone walks everywhere its weird.
Also my goddamn weapon racks are fucked, I cant put weapons in them no matter what I try, I try approaching them with weapons equiped, tried various types of weapons, nothing.

Not sure if the bounties count towards this, have you done any quests for the people living in Markarth?

I did one quest for the steward first, so maybe that?

Seeing as how the horses are suicidal and handle like crippled hippos I don't blame them.
So I've been a dual wielding Nord in light armor for a while now. Since I focus on direct combat, I may switch to some heavy armor.
I know I said I'd pick up both dual wielding and two handed weapons, but is it worthwhile?
From what I've seen, dual wielding is great, but there are times when the enemies are slow and tough- making the lack of block painful and the speed of dual wielding grindy. If I were to have both, I could switch between styles depending on the enemy. Any thoughts? I don't think I'll use much magic or shield blocking.

Khajiits too
Maybe. Sortof.
...They should also survive falling from any height by landing on all fours.
Fact: No matter what height Khajiit fall from, they always land on all fours.

The bandits are leaving it alone why can't the horse do the same?
Anyway I need to buy YET ANOTHER horse because the last one thought it could take on a bandit chief, (it couldn't).
Hahaha. I have a feeling you spend more time coding your Tweaker than actually playing the game now.
Ah, you're playing the game wrong. Horses are an enemy. Like dragons.
