Is there a way to actually find out which specific key you need to open a door?
I was there and I had the physical key, but I didn't know which one to look at for the dials since I had no idea which of my 8 billion claws was specifically for that door.
Just use it and note the color of the claw?
That is what I did do, but it would be convenient if there was an easier way.
Based on the number of claws I have now I wouldn't put it passed the game to end up giving me a pearl claw and an ivory claw or a glass claw and an emerald claw or some other whacky combination (that makes it a huge pain to find out which key/item/thing I need for a particular door.
When you're in Dungeon XYZ, you will come across the claw. It will be called "XXX Claw." Can't you just...remember?
If you just use the keyhole, it will either use the claw or tell you which one you need if it's not in your inventory.

Is there a console command to reset Whiterun since the damn thing is stuck under siege from the Imperial Legion quest.
Also I have a bug with the special loot that you sell to Delvin in the Thieves guild. I missed a couple of early ones and sold him the last one, then went back and stole the ones I missed but he wont take them. Anyone got a clue on how to fix him?
God, I want to like this game; to love it even. But the combat! Oh, the lamentable combat.
If someone could only transplant the visceral excitement of battle from, say, Dead Island into Skyrim, I would be forever consumed. But until then? I will keep a safe distance, appreciating the fine detail and polish from afar, awaiting the day when striking an opponent elicits a reaction one might expect from such an action.

I found regular Sword and Board combat to be a little stale, but I rolled a dagger wieldin' battle mage and now I look for reasons to get in fights. Light dudes on fire and then sprint at them, stabby stab, and trigger a sweet looking finisher. For larger groups of enemies I just summon some Flame Atronachs.
Edit: Oh, I see what you mean. Hitting a guy in the ribs with a warhammer doesn't really seem to bother him and such.

After some Hag killing in the companions questline and mage guild questline
I mean really? They have to kill the head of the companions too? Is the way it is for every guild? You do some intro quests and then the leader of the guild is murdered opening the way for you to take over? Whoops head of the Mages guild is dead too. Might as well appoint you. I haven't done any of the others, but it just feels like lazy writing. Why can't there be a schism in the guild, the guild master retire, or I don't know you not achieve the number 1 leadership position in the guild? I think the quests are generally well done, but just the theme of guild leader murder seems over done, especially considering you have no choice in the matter.
Aside from that probably won't do the thieves guild questline on my battlemage as I have like zero sneak and I will just wait and do it on another playthrough. It would seem like a horrible painful affair to totally change my playstyle on this character and use just a bunch of enchanted sneak gear or else just charge in and slaughter everyone.
Also all of the daedra quests have been awesome so far, especially the one with Dagon.

I'm not sure if I can stand by your argument if you're using Dead Island as your example. I mean the only thing it has that Skyrim doesn't, is a near realistic damage model for enemies. Otherwise I can stagger enemies, 'dodge' out of the way, perform directional based power attacks. Can BLOCK that you can't do in Dead Island, plus you can do an attack whilst blocking to force an enemy to be staggered.
not sure why they scaled the other provinces lower though.. it doesnt make much sense because oblivion and morrowind were 30:1 and skyrim is 20:1.. if anything they should be bigger than they were in oblivion/morrowind.

The lioness is a b e a s t. just sit back and watch the enemies go flying away from her two hander.
It cannot be said enough how I could not play oblivion for 5 minutes without hating it and this game is awesome.

Except I hit an enemy and they.. stagger. Or stagger. Or stagger. Or possibly stagger. Maybe they'll even stagger if I crit!
Dead island things actually responded to what you hit them with, crumpling this way and that, losing limbs and generally being actually affected by what you were bludgeoning them with.
Which is what said person was talking about.
Re: conjuration - Again, just sit there casting soul trap on a corpse with a spell in each hand. I literally went from 10 conjuration to 100 in about 20 minutes, maybe less.
It's really baffling to me how people say they hated the other TES games but like Skyrim. Really the only two things that are better than Oblivion to me are the unique dungeons and the less min/max required leveling system. Beyond that they're largely the same. Certainly not so different where I can grasp hating Oblivion but loving Skyrim.

The combat and magic and writing and NPC faces are far, far, far better this time around, too.
You know, most of the game?
I mean, it's definitely still an Elder Scrolls game, so if you hate open-world RPGs, you'll probably not like it, but even within that niche it's a far better polished product.

The graphics are quite obviously a lot better and people often underestimate what good fidelity does to making a player feel at home in a world; dungeon design got a bit of loving too (many more circular layouts now), and the focus on dragonslaying and shout acquiring makes travelling the world much more rewarding (since getting new shouts is always pretty awesome, whereas gear hunting tends to get a bit boring/irrelevant after a while).

skyrim is better in almost every way
levelling makes sense and is not a counter-intuitive mess
graphics are better
dungeons are actually worth going into
writing is better
there is no aspect that is worse other than maybe the removal of spellcrafting
You know what Oblivion had that I want? A dodge key. Also a 'cast' key so you can use magic. You know, like shouts, except make X cast whatever secondary spell you put in your left hand. That'd be great.
So I made a new character. I'm mainly thinking of taking him in a kind of ranger direction. He archery and sneak, to try to thin out the opposition to make it easier to carve them up with dual blades, which I've found to be pretty fun, as its a mix of stealth and stand up combat. My question is, since I'm not focusing on pure stealth (im not even bothering with backstab, I just want sneak attack on arrows) and that the main focus of the guy is dual swordplay, should I be wearing heavy armor instead of light? I find that I take a lot of damage in stand up fights, mostly against boss type characters. I got obliterated by a certain spectral draugr and had to turn the difficulty down to take him out.
I started investing into light armor and the light armor part of the smithing tree, but I'm worried I'm taking it in the wrong direction. Keep in mind that I've done the mage college and companion quests with a different character, so I'm thinking about doing the bard college, thieves guild and maybe even dark brotherhood with this new guy. This is the reason I made him light armor, to keep stealth as viable as possible.
Am I just making this guy a bit too impractical?
I guess the good news is if I do change my mind I can fix it via console.

That functionality is already in the game, unless I've misunderstood you. For example, you can have Healing going in your left hand while you shoot Firebolts from your right. Right click and left click respectively.
Got my dude to level 61, and "fixed" the mistake of not taking Daedric smithing. Now I look like a Black Rider, but more importantly aesthically the armor is more form fitting and my person's ass doesn't look so flat like dragon bone makes it.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Anyone know why I'm sometimes unable to shout during combat? This was with my dual wielding character.
I'd be in the middle of combat, shout totally cooled down, and trying to hit Unstoppable Force or Elemental Fury. Nothing happened. I'd have to put away my weapons and pull them back out before I could shout.

Doesn't the pc have the shout/skill button seperate from your primary meele stuff? I know that the 360 does.
Yes. By default, it's Z.
So much better when re-mapped to a mouse button. The only time this doesn't work is when I forget I have Unrelenting Force equipped and mean to do the other "silent" shout that shows enemy locations without giving me away. Unrelenting Force kinda does the exact opposite.

I mean being able to assign a spell to an off slot that I could then just tap X to cast. Like shouts. Without having to rebind my left/right every time.
Example is I'm playing a conjuration mage, I use a bow or two swords or whatever. When my stoneskin runs out I have to sheath my weapon, thus dispelling it, just to redef. It'd be great if I could just tap a button and cast a spell, even if it was only certain spells.

Summon: Familiar on left hand
Find a nice place where you can be alone. Summon a familiar. Kill it with your weapon.

Summoning gives you points in Conjuration. Killing things with the weapon gives you points in Conjuration and the relevant weapon skill.
