There have been many versions of The Doctor, the current incarnation is the 11th.

What does this Doctor like I hear you ask?

Hats!

Archaeologists!

Jammie Dodgers!

But all of this is irrelevant because the show is really about the magnificent Rory Pond Williams*

Presence of Rory Williams is not guaranteed.

The New series, featuring a new companion has begun!

With a new series comes new spoilers. Please tag everything from series 7 as we all watch this at different times, even if it is the same day. Hurrah for time zones.
Spoiler tagging previous series is also appreciated as Who gains new viewers every day through the power of Netflix and re-runs. Failure to tag spoilers appropriately will result in the summoning of River Song.

New Viewers!

Good jumping on points are the starts of Series, 1, 2 and 5 of the New run, each of these has a change in flavour, so if you didn't like Tennant, try Smith, he's new and improved! If you don't mind about continuity (You really should), you can jump right in at the start of this series, but I really cannot recommend enough that you start from at least series 5. It'll be worth it. Trust me.

I may actually explode with anticipation. Just shreds of entrails and various organs, eyes and teeth landing everywhere.

I trucked through the most recent Doctor in a few days and having to wait for more is intolerable.

I was a bit put-off by Rory at first, but now I adore him. He is the greatest. I would much enjoy a Last Centurion spinoff that chronicles what he was up to before the universe reset.

For like 30seconds until he breaks the game, pisses off all the players and declares himself champion and retiring.

At the start of the trailer for the Christmas Special I was all..ok right we're going for a good ol fashioned haunted house thing right?

As soon as the first shot of the youngest kid in the snowy forest hit the screen it was all eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 8 years old and watching the BBC LtW&W adaption all over again.

There is no way I am going to be able to take Bill Bailey seriously though, unless he is playing Bill Bailey or Manny in space.

    Five.

Bad Night, Good Night, First Night and Last Night are together on the same disc and are all set in the TARDIS.

Up All Night is on a different disc and features Craig, Stormageddon et al. I'm guessing was meant to be the prequel for Closing Time.

It was terrible. The "evil island" thing was so shoehorned in and didn't make any sense, ugh.

That said, I do hope they make a Silver Chair movie.

Part of it might have been that the Dawn Treader book is where I mostly got tired of the Christian allegory and kinda lost interest in the series as a whole, and as such it's as far as I've read

I looked up a plot summary for The Last Battle last night and honestly just sat there going "really?" for a few minutes

Looks like BBC R&D has been busy making little gadgets that are activated when they pick up certain metadata transmitted with a TV programme. Like this Dalek.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWJuKE_BCJo

It moves in real life when a Dalek appears on-screen.

Next up, full-size Daleks and Cybermen that move in tandem with their on-screen counterparts.

Funny, I did the same thing just the other day. I don't remember how many of the books I read when I was young but I'm pretty sure I didn't make it to The Last Battle.

For me, as a kid, when the afternoon got darker and there was a thrill of cold in the air, I knew that even though summer was over, the TARDIS was coming back! So yes, that's part of the plan, that's part of the reason for this little delay. But it?s not the whole story...

Very soon now, Doctor Who is going to enter production for the longest sustained period we've ever attempted, and the biggest and best and maddest time ever to be a fan of this wonderful old show is rumbling towards us... We needed a little more time to prepare for everything we?ve got planned. That, above all, is why we needed this little gap. Just be a tiny bit patient, and trust me, we?ll make it up to you. For full and comprehensive details of the spectacle to come, consult your fondest memories in a couple of years time.

Steven Moffat can make me more excited than anyone. Even when there really isn't any real news attached..

I'm getting the feeling that the schedule for new episodes is going to be Fall 2012, Spring 2013 (season 7) then Fall 2013, Spring 2014 (season 8) and then a gap year of specials, starting with the 50th anniversary special in Fall 2014 going through Matt Smith regenerating whenever in 2015.

But production wise, he's going to be largely done with the show in late 2013 except to film any specials in 2014. They're going to start filming soon and they're not going to stop for a year and a half because they're basically filming seasons 7 and 8 back to back.

    That's my speculation anyways.

personally, my favorite Narnia books are The Last Battle and The Magician's Nephew

there's something about the apocalyptic imagery followed by Lewis' description of Aslan's Country that stirs my heart

Yeah, that was in Prince Caspian. And I don't think the man was described as a teacher. I found the passage.

    turnedintoatree.png

"At a well in a yard they met a man who was beating a boy. The stick burst into a flower in the man's hand. He tried to drop it, but it stuck to his hand. His arm became a branch, his body the trunk of a tree, his feet took root. The boy, who had been crying a moment before, burst out laughing and joined them."
