My god. Had no idea they'd take it that far. That is EXTREMELY gory.

Just watched the trailer. I feel bad because that level of gore did nothing to me but that is mostly because I prefer really gory anime.

What happened with that new Corpse Party game that is coming out on the vita? Haven't heard anything about it recently.

    Corpse Party Anime Trailer.

    Very NSFW, heavy gore:

There's also a trailer for Dead Patient, which apparently is being released episodically on PC:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ex3DvkefqlI

I was thinking that with Fate and Steins:Gate both having threads that we should have a Corpse Party one, too.

Only issue is it might be too NSFW for D&D.

They are making an anime for Corpse Party?

If I got my info right, it's a four episode OVA series that adapts the first game, Book of Shadows and I think something else? The continuity gets a bit confusing after the first game.

That would explain all the heavy gore, though honestly the reason the PSP version was so unsettling was because it would obscure the truly horrific parts to rely on sound and your imagination instead. It worked, boy howdy did it work.

I squirmed quite a bit, because shit who wouldn't?

And yet despite all that violence it was the random boob bounce that bothered me the most, strange as it sounds.

They're going to ruin the tension of the original if they decide to focus Naomi's over-sized attributes. It's why the manga adaptions were the most godawful things and why you absolutely must never read them.

Anyway, I still wouldn't mind a Corpse Party-specific thread, but again, I highly doubt I would get permission granted if I asked.

Well it's based on a game, so I think it's more suited to G&T, especially since I bet anyone interested would have already played the game.

It is true that majority of material is either on a Playstation handheld or PC, so it would probably make more sense to make a G&T thread.

I just don't know if it would cause any problems discussing the Anime. Gore aside I am interested in checking out the OVA.

Depending on the release date, I might wait for that before checking out the Anime.

Also, Danganronpa was also announced for localization by NIS. Apparently it's the Vita version which contains both games.

I've heard a lot of great things about it, so I'm definitely going to check it out. I was hoping Aksys would localize it though; NIS can be hit-or-miss at times.

Kind of getting conflicting reports, but supposedly the Vita version is supposed to include both games, so it being listed for Vita would mean we're getting both by default.

Why sell us one game when they can sell us two?

Or only have to do half the work in case it doesn't sell well enough to justify the second.

    Well darn.

But I guess it makes no difference. If the first game is as lengthy as other VNs, then it reasonably wouldn't be that long a wait for them to release the second game (assuming the first does well, which it should).

Are there any localized VNs coming this year? Whatever happened to Higurashi on Steam?

  • Darth_MogsDarth_Mogs Registered User regular
Alternatively, why put in the work to completely localize both games when they could just do one to test the waters?

I caught the first episode of Dangan Ronpa's anime adaption.

That Monobear character is like the unholy spawn of Kyubey and Teddie.

I dig the 999-like premise as well as the wild character designs (not sure I dig the super-buff female character being played by a male...or at least sounding like one). The main protagonist seems stereotypical as does his highschool crush, but maybe there's more to them than it would seem.

I can tell this would be a fun weekly series to watch (especially with that "survivor count") but now I'm in a Steins:Gate situation where I wonder if I should wait for the VN to come out or watch the show first. Does the game have multiple routes/endings?

  • cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Regent Bears The Name FreedomRegistered User regular
It only has one ending, so I'd wait for the game. Steins on the other hand, has quite a few, so you can watch the anime and still get a lot out of the VN when it releases.

    Yes, three.

However, the game as a whole is short (3 hours or less) and you can see the different endings almost immediately after one another. There are only two dialogue choices in the whole game that determine which ending you get.

Besides that, Corpse Party and Higurashi, are there any other horror-themed VNs that are legitimately scary, or at least unnerving?

    Well I saw
The end where pretty much everyone dies besides Koji and he starts to go insane and contemplates suicide. Then I went back to the decision where Saya asks if he wants to go back to the way he was or stay with her. Picked the option to go back to how he was and he ends up in an insane asylum. So I guess I gotta find one more end?

Play-Asia, probably. I've been more and more tempted to buy Saya, but I'm not sure I have the stomach for it. The atmosphere does look top notch though.
(I don't even mean the gore, I mean the adult content.)

Cool, I'll check out Play-Asia. Thanks.

I didn't realize there was adult content when I bought it. The atmosphere is really good though and very dark. Pretty sure a baby is eaten. I really just wish that more stuff would be explained. I felt a little let down but then I'm the kind of person who really wants to know every single detail so it is pretty much just a personal thing.

Maybe important spoiler? Not sure. Related to the adult content of the game. Just kind of giving some info on it.
The sex scenes are fairly short and there aren't many of them in the first place. Game does get rapey so if that is a big thing for you then I wouldn't suggest it. By rapey I mean there is rape.

I don't see what's different from reading a story bassed visual novel that happens to have a couple sex scenes that aren't the focus (i.e. a non-eroge) and reading something like say... A Song of Ice and Fire.

I guess some people are more prudish than I am.

Though I'd also compare good comedy eroge like Majikoi or very well written tearjerking ones like Clannad to (female) romance novels.

Well yeah, but more in the horror-movie kind of way. It causes a different kind of bodily reaction.

I wasn't specifically talking about Saya though. It just bothers me when someone wants to avoid a VN that happens to have some sex scenes in them while reading books or watching movies or consuming all this other entertainment that includes them as part of the narrative.

There is a lot to assume though. No telling if someone who finds the adult(sexual) content of a VN offensive or at least off-putting would read something like Fire and Ice (I use this example though I have no idea what it is. I just used it cause you did) or watch something explicit on cable television which will not be nearly as graphic.

Someone might also have objections to the graphic imagery (pictures/animated sex scene) of a VN for some reason while much preferring to read the sexual action or at least being more at ease with it.

I really regret not bringing it up when it was still on sale, but Groupees recently had a doujin bundle that consisted of a few VNs I never heard of.

I mainly went for it for Cherry Tree High Comedy Club, but it seems those other listed VNs have gotten a positive reception as well (according to Wikipedia, anyway).

Which ones are worth checking out among them, first and foremost?

Well naturally an anime based off a game is probably gonna be lackluster somewhat, but for the most part I heard the plot is a deader for the game, which didn't really have many alternating paths anyway... kinda sad really, since I would expect a game with murder mysteries like that to have branching paths where different people die and different people are guilty.

I haven't seen it yet, but from what I've heard the first episode is worth watching as it perfectly adapts the first couple of hours of the game.

After that, allegedly, it goes completely off the rails, and not in a good way.
