Right now I'm using the strongest heal codecast available (which was Medium at that point, is now that Large one), and the Str-Up one

I was using Hack pretty extensively early on, and it made Rider a breeze, but the Stun seemed to never work against Archer so I haven't equipped it again

Using Saber my first play through, as an aside

Scarlet Formal Wear. It's given to you through plot before the seventh week boss (on either path) as long as you actually did what the game told you to do and fought a strong/rare enemy in the arena second arena for the week. Your servant points the enemy out. You totally should have it if you explored the map.

Pretty much a full cure + status effect removal for 70mp.

so I'm playing F/E on Normal difficulty with Caster. this is really hard -- am I bad or is it supposed to be? the first two weeks' fights were pretty brutal. i had to replay the entire first week to level up a bit more, and just barely managed a win on the 2nd week's match. one wrong turn and I was pretty much screwed.

Well, Caster is apparently supposed to be inherently more difficult, although the way I understand it she can eventually skill spam pretty reliably. (Skills supercede any normal actions by the opponent, so skill spamming is often an almost entirely safe way to null an entire round of actions against you)

But yes, the game can be rough and it's pretty easy to die just by fucking up a single round of actions, even against random enemies.

Yeah, even Saber is pretty dang tough so far. I'm glad I started out slow. I'll get back to it once I'm done with Corpse Party, assuming I remember everything. (I was on Week 3.)

At the very start of the game difficulty goes Saber > Archer > Caster in order of easy to hard. As you get towards end game difficulty goes Caster > Archer > Saber due to having more awesome tools at your disposal (stuns and guards, mind charge, and mana free casting turns for caster; damage dealing debuffs, a full 100% block, and a x1.5-2 skill damage modifier) while Saber only really gets self-buffs, straight damage abilities, and a limited self-revive. You also get the ability to restore your Servant's MP starting mid-game through codecasts.

Saber's a straightforward Attack based character. Archer and (especially) caster all very much skill dependent styles in boss fights and tough encounters. And yes, Caster is really weak in non NG+ at the begining because you have no MP regen items, little magic yet, and she's the most fragile servant until she starts proactively stunning and blocking everything.

As another tip, ALL stats increase both Attack and Skill damage (yes, ALL stats), but to different degrees and some only start buffing one's damage once they're beyond a certain letter rank. Atk and Def raise physical attack damage and physical skills the most while Mag and Def raise magic skill damage the most. Luck effects critical hits and status effect resists more than damage. Agility effects damage normalization of basic attacks (when your agility is lower the larger the gap is between your min and max damage) and who wins skill contests when both you and your opponent use a skill on the same turn (unless one has priority).

True ending of Chapter 5 get.
It just felt... empty. Heartless, even. I'm not sure I have the will to see the other bad endings, though I'm curious about the Extra End.

Man, just beat Chapter 2 in Corpse Party. I've missed one bad end and one name tag in each chapter so far... I suppose I'll just look at a guide for them eventually - I assume they unlock the Extra Chapters, right?

Pretty damn creepy game. And that one bad end in Ch2 was pretty unexpected.

I'd say try, but but they're mostly hit or miss. Like I said earlier, they ran out of creativity after Ch.3, and nearly all of Ch.5's are pretty lazy. There's a guide on the Gamefaqs board that has a list on how to get them all. But if you're looking for the extra end specifically
The second last save point I think? The one right after Naomi splits off from you. Go down from there and take Yuka to the bathroom. Then completely beat the game properly as normal.

Funnily enough... one could argue that it's a might happier ending than the true end.

Ha, I was right. The very first puzzle/action you have to perform in Corpse Party is straight out of Sweet Home.
At least it doesn't look like you have to juggle an inventory full of boards, they just fill one gap and then are stuck there. I guess I'll find out soon enough if you can fall off/through them too...

Well, five seconds later and I have to pick the board back up. I can't wait to see how small the inventory is...

Bahahaha, Exchap 1. Took me forever to figure out what I actually had to do to get the actual ending instead of the failed one.
Mostly because I always open that stall.

    SHUT THE GODDAMN DOOR!

You can relax, Resident Evil this ain't. There's no inventory shenanigans to meta manage.

Ugh... chapter 5 is going to be a slog.

This game should not have left the developing oven without a fast forward button.

Apparently they added that in the sequel.

I certainly hope the game does well enough for us to get the sequel as well.

  • ReynoldsReynolds Gone Fishin'Registered User regular
So I have to play through all the opening storyline stuff to get to the point in the first chapter where I missed a bad ending? Ugh.

This game definitely has a creepy atmosphere and an interesting setting, but it's more unsettling than really scary. Nice music, definitely.

It does desperately need a fast-forward button, as well as one to scroll back through text. I hate missing a random box of dialogue.

So just got done with Chapter 4 and a bad end of Chapter 5.
I thought I was out, but they keep pulling me back in!

Dear lord, though, that end really went off the rails. BITCH MODE ACTIVATED!

Felt kind of weird, though, as if I was skipping around in time after I got... ahem... a piece of mail in the Janitor's closet.

Buy these so Dangan Ronpa gets localized!

I've heard it'd take a miracle for that to come out here, because there's so much text involved, much of it stylized into the game's graphics.

It's fairly text heavy, but no moreso than corpse party, really.

There is a pretty great lp of it going on over on SA and I need the game soooo bad.

  • cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Regent Bears The Name FreedomRegistered User regular
Interesting. Are they translating it as they go?

I'm loving the hell out of Corpse Party right now. Playing with earbuds in is definitely the right call.

And done with Chapter 5, with the gold star ending.

Is there anything special/different if you actually go through and get all the endings/ID tags?

I'm slow-poking Corpse Party, I know. Just got a little headway into Chapter 3, and am trying to find the single name tag and bad end in Chapters 1 & 2 I missed. Worried they are obtusely hidden, though.

  • cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Regent Bears The Name FreedomRegistered User regular
The final one in Chapter 3 is pretty vile.
You have to skip the fourth 1/5 memoir, so the fifth won't be there. It blocks the final name tag

So I beat Corpse Party about a week ago. I have one more bad end and 4 name tags left to get in Chapter 5. Fuck. I know the ending, but the tags? Clueless. Anyway, any chance we'll be getting Book of Shadows? That would be pretty cool. Has XSeed mentioned it at all?

There are a handful of tags only available during:
The whole escape sequence. Pretty obscurely hidden too. Like one's inside a piece of rubble you pass by, two are in the skulls in that hallway you pass. Stuff you're never going to stop and check, given the situation. The kicker is, I'm pretty sure one of them is flat out bugged. There's supposed to be one inside the bathroom during the escape, but the game doesn't let you inside. The last I heard of the issue was that Xseed was "looking into it". Though it's not like the tags even unlock anything, so it ultimately doesn't matter except for OCD purposes.

I got the rubble one and the one for falling in the pit trap, but I didn't think they'd hide them in skulls. Now my OCD will explode for not being able to complete that list, although it feels like I went in the bathroom in one of many escape runs where I went looking for tags. I might have just gone to the hallway before the actual bathrooms though. I just figured I'd need them for the extra chapters, because I'm still missing two of them. I haven't played through them all yet however, and maybe the last ending will unlock them.

Well like I said, they only show up during the escape bit. I checked every skull going up because I'm crazy like that. I didn't check every skull coming down, because oh my god the bell is ringing we're gonna die. T'was a bit of a dick move on the developers part with that.

And yeah, extra chapters are unlocked by the endings. Dunno which ending unlocks which chapter though.

You mean the visual novel? I've heard it's amazing, though it does have eroge elements.
