So Scimitars were the first weapons I picked up besides the iron crap you get in the tutorial.
They're legendary right now and only need steel ingots to improve should I choose to do so. I thought to myself, "there is no way that these simple weapons could be end-game viable".
But they are
Looking up the base damage, it looks like only Daedric, Ebony, and Glass will ever outdamage them.
Since I went up the left side of the smith tree, only Glass can actually out damage them.
DAMMIT.
I only grabbed two smithing perks to be able to upgrade enchanted items for my thief. Which means I get the steel upgrades. The akavari style swords you can find are like the scimitars: nice since they do more base damage than normal steel swords but benefit from the same perk. They also actually look like real swords. Most other swords look like fantasy frat paddles with a point end added. The downside is that they still sometimes do the stealth kill animation the double edged swords do: using the backside of the sword to cut the victim's throat even though it's rather blunt on the curved swords.
I seem to have inadvertently descended into demon worship
I feel like there actually aren't many opportunities to be good. A lot of the quests are steered towards evil, especially the thieves guild and the Dark Brotherhood. Why can't we have a paladin guild or something? I don't feel any incentive to not be evil.
The reward for being evil is power and glory. The reward for being good is dick all in terms of material goods but the knowledge that you can sleep at night because you have not been evil.
Sounds pretty true to life to me.
Except this doesn't translate to video games at all. There should be rewards for being either one.
There are. There are plenty of quests that aren't really in line with what an evil character would do. The rewards are not necessarily symmetrical. As an example callous character isn't going to run around helping out the people of a city to earn the right to buy property. It's the totally mercenary character that really gets all the rewards. Which suits the game just fine really since many if not all of the historical heroes of note in the setting were never totally good, just driven.
The alchemist in Solitude let me take all the ingredients off her shelves with the sole exception of her void salts, after doing one helpful quest.
So that's one reward for being good: High disposition with a npc and they will let you have any of their junk. Except alchemical "junk" is never junk junk.
Read the video description, and take a look at the lore for Sithis and the DB.
Video Title: Dammit Lucien!
Video Description: Now I have to murder god knows how many people to cover up your bullshit!
Read up on it.
Still need more explanation I'm afraid. :P
Explanation given!
Lucien Lachance is the former speaker of the Dark Brotherhood, and, usually, one suave motherfucker. He's a fan favorite of Oblivion, and as a result, shows up in Skyrim, the same as Shadowmere, another fan favorite. This is pretty much a spoiler to no-one who played Oblivion, and read up on Skyrim before it came out, but people who haven't played Oblivion probably won't know who he is.
The Speaker/Listeners of the brotherhood are typically their "heads". They communicate the will of Sithis, and are typically the smartest, canniest murderers of the bunch. Also, they tend to be delightfully insane.
You can get Lucien as a permanent summonable companion (His ghost, which is bound to Sithis, the god of the DB.) by doing the DB quest-line.
The Dark Brotherhood is an organization of psychopathic assassins and prides itself on secrecy.
Lucien just totally ratted the Dovahkiin's affiliation with the DB and Sithis (An evil, evil, god of murder and death.) out in front of the town guard, which is typically an organization that frowns on murder, mayhem, and wanton slaughter of the innocent. Hence the players head swinging back and forth as if to say "what the fuck, Lucien?!" when the guard says he knows who he is after Lucien's speech.
Is there any way to see the skill levels of your companions?

So I went to marry... Literally sat (didn't use the wait function) in the Temple of Mara. Ceremony "starts", everybody appears in the doorway including the corpse of Lydia (she died early game and I had no desire to revive her, don't like Console Commands too much, at least not on a legitimate run through). Everybody suddenly becomes enraged, and tell me to "Get out!". Feels bad.

Oh wow, that is pretty great.
Yeah, I've never played oblivion. Last one I played was morrowind.

Anyone know why (Post-game shout spoilers, related to something you get.)
The three heroes you can summon with a shout are so weak? It seems their summon wears off too quickly, and they do minimal damage for being the former slayers of Alduin. I'd just as soon summon my new dragon bro, who personally crowned me God-King of Dragonkind after slaying Alduin. Between him and me, I murdered every damn guard in Markath. Also, seeing him perched on top of the guard tower, breathing flames down on the slaving suckers below, is awesome.
Also, (shout spoilers, but badass nonetheless, and should be seen either way)
Summon your dragon when you fight another dragon. The battle is epic to watch. They duke it out in the skies. Try to get the high ground when landing. And if one dragon goes down, the other lands next to him and attempts to tear his throat out.
So there is a quest to return an item to some dwarven city, the reward is a power that lets you skill up blacksmithing 15% faster, and a 25% armor bonus while wearing dwarven armor.
This puts it just a few points shy of dragon armor when wearing the full set.

The thing is that town guards will random say that to you if you're in the DB no matter what, the timing with Lucien is just comedic gold. I guess when you're a spirit in eternal service you stop caring about silly things like subtlety, cause that guy never shuts his mouth.

He also never sneaks and gives you away all the time, very annoying, you'd think a ghost and an assassin of one would be more stealthy. nope
Well I managed to do it. I finally got Lydia killed. No idea where she died though, I fast traveled into Riften while she was running headlong into a group of mercs in Golden Glow Farm. I figure she must have drowned or something, but I cannot find her body anywhere. Annoying.

I love how the horses look in this game, but I wish they weren't made out of glass.
I miss Shadowmere already.
Also, any idea on what bugs are being fixed in the first patch? I'd really like control over my volume back. :P

I left Lydia treading water in White Run after I thu'uned her off Dragon Reach into the moat. Unfortunately she found her way back into the mead hall. I haven't spoken to her since.
My Solitude houscarl is pretty swell though, she certainly has a better attitude than Lydia. I just hope she doesn't aggro on my husband after I get married.
I'm only delaying the marriage until I do some more helpful quests. I don't want an empty wedding, that would be sad.
Wow, what the hell dagger is that guy using in those awesome videos?
It's an ebony dagger, and it appears to be enchanted with absorb health.
The ebony dagger is much more wavy and has scrollwork on it, unlike blade of woe which is plainer and has more of a curve. Also that model seems to unique.
I went home for thanksgiving, took my computer but not the monitor. Regular CRT monitor here, 1024x768 for the resolution. I have been playing in 1680x1050. So now my eyes are bleeding. Should I keep the res at 1024 or bump it up to something? Or will that make everything tiny?
Ugh, texture glitches after 10 minutes, crashes after 20 minutes. Time to figure out a way to get LAA back or Skyrim will be put on hold.... incredible.
Anyone remember what that "clear cells" console command thing mentioned in one of the previous threads was? My game is starting to stutter where it before was smooth as silk, I think I might as well try cleaning a bit.

If its what it was in oblivion is will be pcb (purge cell buffer)
Edit: I don't know if it will work, a lot of old commands are still around in a non-functional form.

If you are talking about "the Joys of Skyrim" video then it looks like the Blade of Woe model.
Lydia: The most devoted of companions.

I have no idea. I don't use weapon enchants because I think the glowy effects look awful and overly color-saturated.
