I don't see a meaningful distinction between consoling things into the game and abusing their crafting system.

One of these is what a nerd does while playing a video game. One is a secret technique that an insane wizard developed from studying arcane books in a dungeon. Even though the crafting system might have loopholes from poor design, to some there is still a difference between gaming the system and hacking it (especially if you enjoy watching speed runs.)

Edit: Personally though I feel there is a difference between whether you figure something like this out on your own, or from going on a forum and reading about it.

It's just such an easily exploitable system that there is no functional difference, except one guy types a line of code to get the identical effect of gathering a few ingredients and chain-chugging/producing potions.

The functional difference is that one of them is something I like doing and the other isn't. (The other one is that it can be done on the console)

I like how Steam updates the games I tell it not to update. Once they unfuck the game again I'm switching to offline mode for good.

And is it sad that, as soon as I saw Steam updating the game, I immediately went to the Bethsoft forums to see what broke this time?

Spells are suddenly a lot more dangerous. Atronarchs kind of suck now, you can no longer send one in and then cast the matching type of destruction spell without one-shotting your pet.

They've very likely been instructed not to say anything because the company wants to release a statement in some official capacity. This is not entirely uncommon for customer support, especially in "disaster" scenarios. It's not what a customer wants to hear sometimes, but it's business. Nothing they say right this very second is going to fix your game, and the assumption they don't know the patch is fucked is naive. I am sure they are equally as pissed they released a bad patch as we are that they did, albeit for different reasons.

I just don't buy in to the nonsense that being a customer gives people the right to go to their forums and scream at them for answers RIGHT NOW BECAUSE DAMN IT I PAYED YOU. Good on them for taking control of their forums and not letting it become WoW General Chat. When they have something to say that isn't "Hey, uhh, patch is fucked, give us a minute", I'm sure they will.

So I have not played since Sunday when I finished up the Mages College questline, partially due to lack of time and partially due to self-satisfaction and being unsure what I want to do next.

Yep, I'm gonna be getting in lots of Crayon Physics and maybe some original Fallout/2 until the patch-fixing patch comes out.

I had finally started doing the story quests too (at level 40), it was getting so good!

    *main quest spoilers, seriously*
I just trapped a motherfucking dragon in a huge yoke and then talked shit right to it's face.
People out and about are starting to recognize my greatness, and they are much more receptive to me shouting in their towns now. Why yes, I AM the fucking Dragonborn, thanks for noticing....FUS! "AAAAAaaaaaa...... *splat*"

I fought one dragon since the patch and it was doable, but I seriously have doubts about fighting dragon priests now without magic resistance gear.

Pretty sure the reason spells are so dangerous is because resistances are broken, not because spells got more powerful. Adding more resist wouldn't help.

e: Which also perfectly explains your Atronarch issue.

That's what I was talking about.

Spells are de facto more dangerous because nothing resists them for shit now.

So beyond all the current gloom, I'd like to take a poll of y'all

What's your most useful shout? Which one actually helps you win fights that would have given you trouble otherwise?

    Mine is definitely
Go ethereal. You basically become an untargetable ghost until you attack someone. Being pure sword and shield left me really vulnerable to frost mages and LOLOLWHATSOLIDGROUND dragons. Go into mist mode, attain melee range, open up with power attack.

  • GnomeTankGnomeTank What the what? Portland, OregonRegistered User regular
Right, but adding more magic resist armor to fight Dragon Priests as you suggested wouldn't help.

For my sneaky bastard character it's definitely the three-syllable Marked for Death. If that sneak attack fails, or there's simply too many packed mobs to assassinate all of them, MfD lets me handle even a boss with just a few hits in normal melee.

Yeah it really has a lot of utility
Aside from closing range to magic/ranged guys, it's also just great for exploration when you feel like jumping off mountains and not dying. I'm also way into elemental fury. Since most of my damage comes from my weapons anyway, it makes sense to just go for something that speeds that up a notch.

I use go ethereal for running across the world because your stamina doesn't go down while using it so you can sprint for ages, and it has a really short cooldown.

For combat I use Aura Whisper mainly, very useful to be able to scope out a room with it before entering.

Has anyone had a quest not allow you to continue? I am doing "The Black Star" on the 360 and
it says to go talk to Nevelar. I do so but it doesn't check it off in my quest log. Also, when I go to the dungeon that the quest marker says to go to, there is a boulder in front of the area I need to go to. It looks like Bethesda is not going to fix this and I don't have an earlier save.
Wish there was an answer for this but there doesn't seem to be. I am holding out some small hope that someone knows a way for it to fix itself.

I think the strongest one is actually lightning storm. It hits for like 110 / sec and 18 mana/sec (it's a channeled spell like flames but you can't dual cast it). I've never seen an NPC use it, though.

Ice Storm should be stronger(i think) than that even though lighting storm is master level.

40 damage/second per cast. You can dual cast it.

The kicker though is that you can cast it again (things take damage while in the cloud which lasts a few seconds). So if you get 2 seconds of damage per cast and cast 1/second then the second cast of the spell is landing for 80 damage/second before overcharging

Marked for Death is certainly my favorite shout. I once had a dragon that refused to land for a while, so I kept marked for death on him when he got into range. Shaved a reasonable amount of health off considering it's a dragon.

Then the thing landed and I killed it in like 2 hits because Marked for Death's armor raping is cumulative over time, so the longer you sit, the less armor they have.

It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

This happened to me. My wife got angsty at me getting sucked back into video games (I had spent the better part of 6 months trying to not spend 6+ hours a day playing games), and it was building up as massive guilt. I pulled 60 hours in a week, not as bad as some, but still...that's 8.5 hours a day if you average it...There's something wrong with that.

Worst part? I've had nothing but idea's for characters and a compelling desire to play.

Seriously though. With the new batman game that came out, I'd play for like 3 hours and it felt like 3 hours. I'd need a break.

Modern Warfare 3, it would piss me off after about 1 hour and I'd have to stop.

Skyrim? 10 hours feels like 5 minutes

I don't think I've ever played a single player rpg that was this addictive. Only strategy games like Civ can suck away my time like Skyrim.

I find it incredibly ironic that Bethesda managed to make an Elder Scrolls game with relatively few bugs, then breaks the hell out of it by releasing a patch. It's like we're dealing with Bizarro Bethesda instead of Normal Bethesda.
