Last night I ran a round or two with CarbonFire, and I felt slightly less like an early detection drone. I must be improving slightly. I will continue to use this as my gauge. :P
I find when playing with Carbon that a valid tactic is to just duck and stay behind him since he is mostly invulnerable and dies like 3 times per match tops. So I just kind stick there and plink at stuff he isnt plinking at and hope that some skill rubs off on me.
I killed Carbon once with a grenade. True story.
I'll be writing a book on my experience of that event. Keep an eye out for it.

I once rounded a corner and hit Carbon with a MAV.
He sounded genuinely confused as he uttered "I died?".
Like it was his first time.

Every game I have played with you so far, you have been pretty good at. The best advice I can offer is to be sure you are running from cover to cover when no one is around to kill you. Figuring out when the right time to move and the right time to stay still is arguably the most useful skill to master in this game. The rest is just figuring out what guns feel the best in your hands. For my money, the AEK, M249, A91 and AS VAL are the best. I really like everything about the silencers, too and roll them on just about even gun I can.
The silencer Pros:
Reduced recoil
Increased ROF
No muzzle flash
Very little noise
Probably will not show up on the minimap
Cons:
More spread from hip firing
Rounds do less damage at long ranges.
Depending on the round fired, slightly more drop to considerably more drop. (Small rounds are less effected, eg .223 5.45; large rounds more effected eg .338 magnum in the M98 drops like the m40 round when silenced)
I could not agree with this more. Running a silencer is fantastic, and I think a lot of the pros directly balance the cons you mention, like higher RoF and control easily counter less damage. But just making less noise, and no muzzle flash are huge on most situations, especially if you are actually contesting the objective. The AEK silenced is cheating.
This is the weapons damage chart by D3S3RT_P3NG3U1N. There's a section on minimap visibility there for which ones show up on the minimap even with silencers on.
None of the suppressed pistols do, but quite a few of the main weapons do, according to the chart. I love me some m416 action, and that one doesnt seem to show up on the minimap.
Guess some of the changes have been implemented onto the 360 version as well.
Seems the C4 was either nerfed or the tanks beefed up; 3 charges would only disable a tank w/o killing the passengers last night.
Also a variable could be your c4ing the front Armor rather than the weaker sides.
C4 does 50 damage to vehicles regardless of armor.
Although it sometimes does 49 damage, which is kinda dumb.
What would the ideal PA A-Team be? Me, Carbon, and two of the ~8 good Colonels we've got?
I promise not to be a super elite sniper guy all the time and actually play the proper class for the situation if this is a thing we're actually gonna do.
Anyone else having issues with connecting to Battlelog? Everytime I launch BF3 from Origin it just sits there and loads...eventually throws up a page in basic HTML that says my browser isn't supported. Worked fine yesterday. Even tried *cringe* Internet Explorer. Still no go.
I'm good at the game! I swear! I just don't play it is all. I'm waiting until I buy a new video card so I can run it at something other than N64 graphics with 25 fps max.
I can do the TWL thing, if you'll have me. What if I promise to stay out of AA and choppers/jets? I remember having a lot of fun doing league things when I played Enemy Territory. Well, I guess whether I can make it depends on what day of the week it is, or do clans set match times with each other and report the results to TWL? Its been a long time.
Ok, helicopter and jet pilots: I have some questions for you guys.
What is the best way to practice flying/shooting these things? I need to somehow unlock the flares, but taking down another flying vehicle with the jet seems impossible to me at the moment (which brings me to my next question)
Christmas is coming up. I'm looking for a joystick to make flying in game more enjoyable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For the helo at least, find a partner to do the co op mission a decent amount of times with. Practice flying the chopper a LOT. its really the only way to get familiar too it. Also, have a gunner you can communicate with as much as possible. They'll be able to tell you what you need to do to help them hit targets effectively.
For MP: I prefer to do gun runs on areas, so I don't get locked on too quickly and get shot down immediately. You want to be constantly moving, cutting off line of sight of soflams and anyone trying to lock on to you. On conquest, always try to take out the other chopper first, and if possible, the enemy team's AA gun too. You won't be able to do much against the jets, though. They'll usually kick the crap out of you if you stay stationary for too long.
Also, if at all possible, use the Viper over the Havoc. The Viper is nimble, faster, much easier to use-while the havoc is a slow, unwieldy shitty chopper with no advantages over the Viper. It's SUPPOSED to have heavier armament, but in game I've just found it to be shitty.

To unlock flares in the jets, just use shenanigans. Number one shenanigan: fly straight at a chopper, light him up, then crash into him. You can often get a kill this way. That or just try to strafe vehicles (for assist points), or even infantry. Do not try to dogfight. You will get locked on, shot up, and die. The main thing is that before you have flares, you've basically got about eighteen seconds to get points.
For the helos, just don't fly. Get in the gunner seat, let him pop flares, until you have them unlocked. Your gunner can pop flares too, but unless you're talking to him he might not know to (usually it's pilot first, then gunner).
For a joystick, I recommend a gamepad (not a joystick). Main thing is that you need three axes (pitch/roll/yaw), and that means either rudder pedals (expensive) or one of those twisty sticks (lame). I tried this with a joystick, and was unimpressed. Gamepad is great, though. If you can get an Xbox controller to work, awesome. I had no luck, despite the fact that they're supposedly supported. So I picked up this pad on the cheap. There are more expensive versions (including wireless). Main selling point is that it does both DirectInput and XInput, which means it can act as both a "classic" gamepad and an Xbox controller. Which is awesome.
EDIT: In case it wasn't clear, you have to shoot the chopper first to get the points for a disable/kill when you crash into him. I think I did this to infantry, too...lit him up, damaged him, then crashed the jet into him (and got the kill, because I was the last to touch him).
What would the ideal PA A-Team be? Me, Carbon, and two of the ~8 good Colonels we've got?
I'm pretty sure the equation is as simple as Carbon+3 semi-decent or better players = winning team!
When playing vs extremely good/coordinated players, all bets are off. And there are plenty of good PAers who can rock in those situations, some unfortunately aren't playing at the moment (like Angry Weasel for instance :P)
I bought a wired 360 pad for flying jets.
I just got a new monitor that does 1920x1080 and my old monitor did 1360x768.
Game still runs okay. Bit choppier than I would have liked, but nothing below 30. Running a GTX 560TI, i5 2400 and 4Gb of ram. Any thoughts if there's something I should turn off to get some performance back? Running on high by default.

I blame all the games that are coming out. Its a conspiracy! I'm finally geting back into my groove though. Was MVP for about 3 out of 5 games today. I was kicked out of one server for being an "AA whore" as they called it. Can I help being 33-0 because they have dumbass engies and the tunguska is a death machine? I think not. Otherwise I'm usually A91 all the way.
E: Also, if you guys getting into competitive why only 4 players?

HBAO to SBAO, maybe? Also, motion blur and deferred AA?
And Mulletude, I promise I only did Jet on Chopper shenanigans a few times, to get mah flares. And didn't feel bad, because fuck trying to earn flares.

I.don't have a good answer for that, iv'e never actually tested to see if it's true. I use em mainly for stealth and control.
Some of them start getting on, happens to be the team I'm on... magically that team loses by a TON.
