My consumer whore sense is tingling.
I'm tossing up between an iPad and hanging out til the next iteration of the Air.
Pros. Get it in a week!
Half the cost.
Part of the reason I didn't buy one before is the 10 inch screen, to me, feels too small, retina screen will fix this issue.
Can always resell and get a windows 8 tablet
Cons
Can't put windows on it like the air.
Limited to app stuff
Probably only use it on the couch.
Keyboardless
Do you remember the difference between a 3GS and an iPhone 4? Makes a huuuge difference.
oh okay
so if the screen size itself was bigger you'd have zoomed in, then
weird cause I can read stuff perfectly fine on here and I do a lot of reading stuff/posting/videos with it
It's going to be impossible to suspect how good the display is going to look until we see it. It was the same way with the 3GS to the 4, as Blake mentioned. The 3GS looked fine, but you didn't realize how much better the 4 was till it was in your hands. And it is so, so much better. I cannot wait to see a tablet sized retina display.
this just continues the LOL at my coworker who bought an ipad 2 in mid february and just bought a Mark II camera.
When you buy expensive technology you should always research release dates of successors beforehand.
"I wasn't going to buy the ipad 3 anyway" well, ok, but I'm guessing you could have used that extra 100 bucks you could have saved by waiting three weeks.
They might offer a $100 credit if he complains. I mean, you'd have to have been under a rock to have heard nothing about the March announcement, but I'll bet they'd do something for'em.
I ordered the 16GB Black Wifi-only. Never encountered a situation where I really needed internet on the iPad when I didn't have my phone with me already. After some freelance IT work I did in the past week or so, and selling my iPad 2 to a coworker, I'm only gonna be out ~$100 including tax to upgrade.
It's just strange to see people lining up in front of Apple Stores like three months after the iPhone 4 came out.
People's shopping habits are weird man. And they might need help switching over from an older phone and maybe don't know to visit a their carrier's store to do it, or they want the hands-on help from an employee.
My mom still refuses to buy anything online. Like, from Amazon, probably one of the safest places to buy anything (mostly books, for her, of all things)

I just can't figure out how they can afford the apple stuff, and have enough spare time to line up.
I might be wrong, but I somehow got it into my mind that iPads can connect with Apple's bluetooth keyboard - is that true? I do like using keyboards for things like taking notes and I already have one, so that'd make it a lot easier to just use an iPad in class instead of my cramped EeePC.
I mean, no question, this resolution increase is not "needed" in the same way the 3GS to the 4 was. The retina display on the 4 made text easier to parse on such a (compared to a laptop) small screen, so aside from just looking amazing it served a functional purpose. The upgrade for the tablet is pretty much just to look amazing. Whether or not that's important enough to you to ensure a purchase is of course your own call.
From a business standpoint, the retina display is interesting because it also helps keep apple clearly in the front of the tablet wars. ICS was creeping up on iOS in terms of speed and actually utilizing the hardware of the respective tablets where honeycomb wasn't. This of course discounting all the bad UI shit tablet manufacturers were slapping on top of the OS. Now apple has a further gap since samsung apparently chickened out of their ultra high res tablet. (though, in fairness, this was only a rumor)
I still have to wonder if apple is taking any kind of extra hit for pushing out this kind of crazy high quality display on a tablet in order to keep that lead, or if this was really just natural design progression and they're staying at about the same level of margin as with the ipad1 and 2.
I think the smart cover is a bit overpriced, but then again all the covers are overpriced in relation to how much the device costs. Of course cases for phones more so than tablets, but if you want a case for your phone or tablet it's just a fact of life. I bought one with my preorder because for a few weeks anyways there aren't any other cases, and for my purposes it's going to be all I need. I really wish the poly one came in black, but I'll make due with a dark grey one.
How is Apple when it comes to actually shipping preorder stuff? Considering how hard it was to get my preorder through, it took me two hours of trying from 3-5pm, I find it hard to believe it will actually be delivered on the 16th. I'm going to try really hard to not get my hopes up, but it'll be hard because it's been a long time since I've been this excited about something.

Thank goodness, since having got the 2 only a couple weeks ago that would have been rather embarrassing (even if I did save a hundred bucks on it woo)

CM7 isn't a tablet OS I thought
THat's the point of ICS/ICS-based ROMs, it's meant to function as a phone and tablet OS all in one

never said it was ideal but okay. your post was kind of ruined by the new smilies

Logitech makes a pretty nice-looking one that has a Mac keyboard layout as well that suits the iPad.
Supposedly teens growing up with the iPad now are getting something like 100+ WPM on the iPad, which is fucking insane.
also my ipad wpm is only a little under my normal wpm
sometimes they're corrected to the wrong word though, which takes forever to fix
I read really tiny stuff on the first gen iPad all the time with no eye strain. None pixels to bother me at all.
I mean I am sure the new display is gonna be better. But the original display was already fantastic

I was just wondering if you had actually had much hands on time with an iPad.
i am more interested in why people don't like the smart cover. cause it is pretty much the best ever
Felt hard to read for me.
Satans..... hints.....
I did the same on my 3G as well.
Less so once I got my 4.
Satans..... hints.....
no more zooming/swiping left right
only thing is the built in notification thing on the bottom left covers stuff sometime but whatever, they can be closed
Also today I finally hit a huge dyno in the bouldering room at my gym I had been working on for weeks. It was awesome
