So good. So good. But I have no idea what I want to play as in the full version, even after experimenting in the demo. I was set on pure finesse before I started playing, and then I picked up a greatsword. Those things look so cool. I suppose I could go Finesse/Might.

Been playing the demo, it's really fun
Sadly my 360 demo has the bug where it skips some conversations and then it froze on me during a fight shortly after the tutorial

That happened to me when I tried to talk to the guy who was following me. Luckily I was only ten minutes in so restarting wasn't too much of a pain.
And the demo is long...
Like the game take you up to a certain point which takes like 30-50 minutes depending on whether you skip dialogue or not. Then once you're there you get 45 minutes just to dick around.
It's pretty cool and you get to experience a good part of the game. That being said I only manage to gain a few levels so my combat skills were only basic. But it feels like once you level stuff up you'll be able to do some pretty fun stuff.
Also, with primary and secondary weapons you can equip any weapon to either slot and that basically allows you to quick switch weapons in the middle of fights. I'm sure that'll make for some pretty awesome combos.
Do we know if the game will require/register on Origin and/or steam?
Best Buy isn't offering a download option and since I have gift cards there I figured I'd buy it there so it'll have to be the boxed copy. However it'd be nice to know if it registers on a download service for future use.

When I played on the 360 it didn't ask me to log in my EA account. That being said...my gamertag is already tied to my EA account so I'm not really sure.
From the official forums, the Origin\EA account is only required to redeem the bonu items in the demos and so fourth. It links the items to the account.

It sure would be nice to try this demo (PC). Too bad I just get a blank screen during gameplay. The menus look fine and I can create a character without any problems, but I get nothing but blackness after that. I thought it was kind of odd that the intro was just a black screen with some dialogue...
Hate to be a Negative Nancy, but after the Dark Tower and Avatar the standard fantasy setting just doesn't appeal to me all that much. Is there anything interesting about Amalur to make it unique as a place?
I just tried to play the PC demo. There are few graphical options, nothing about view distances (which is why I really wanted to try the PC demo after the console version, as I noticed some pop-in on the 360), and I get a black screen during cutscenes and gameplay. Menus worked fine and the HUD displayed, but everything else was pitch black.
Edit: Found a solution. Just like many other games recently, they don't play nice with ATI cards. God dammit. I'm really going to get an Nvidia card next. The fix is to turn off post processing. The developers report it has been fixed in the full version, though, so that's good news.

Did the 360 demo, good times. Will be picking it up for sure. I'll play through the demo on the PC later to decide which version I'll be getting. I'm guessing its going to be the PC one but you never know I guess.
I see it is now on steam and comes with TF2 hats. I haven't played TF2 in ages so I don't really care about that; it doesn't seem to come with the typical preorder stuff though, the weapons and such.
I think I'll just get it at best buy because of my gift cards.
I just played around with the PC demo now that I fixed the black screen issue. The view distances - things like grass and object LODs - are exactly the same as the console version. There are no sliders or options to increase them, at least not in the demo. Texture detail is about the same, too. I guess I'll stick with my Xbox 360 pre-order and play the game from the couch, and then I can go, "Oh my God this game is amazing!" to everyone in Xbox Live parties. That might include you, Mr. Herpes! We can giggle together!

Downloading the Demo through Origin right now but I'm torn.
My entire game library (except The Sims 2, SWTOR and Blizzard games) are on Steam and I like having everything in one place. But on Steam the game is $60 while on Amazon.ca a physical PC copy is only $50. I guess I'll play the demo and see. I'll probably cave and buy it on Steam.
Edit: With taxes it's actually $56 on Amazon, yeah, I'm going to buy it on Steam. I'm glad it showed up there.

It's under "Free Games".
I have played through the 360 demo twice now while downloading the PC demo.
I found these awesome unique Faeblades after a cool quest.
Really liking the game, will be a day 1 on PC for me, 360 just has too low framerate for my liking.

It really does seem intentional in some cases. It seems the ones with Nvidia in the loading screen always have the most issues and I have a feeling it is intentional in those cases to try to screw AMD/ATI. Though AMD also does not have the best track record when it comes to drivers either, and i think some developers don't care enough to really tweak it till after release. AMD/STI also often drop the ball on crossfire support for new games, for example. I don't know why crossfire/SLI dont work better considering they were able to do it years and years ago with those old 3DFX cards or whatever they were called.

My understanding is that ATi is difficult to work with. I recall some game developer mentioning that if they have a problem with nVidia cards, they can just call them up and they'll help them solve the problems, whereas ATi is more like "sent an e-mail, got an automated response two weeks later".
Huh, weirdness with the PC demo. Nvidia card, but I don' think it's video-related anyway.
Before and after every cutscene i have to alt-tab in and out of the game to get the game going again. Otherwise it just sits there on a black screen with the blue circle rotating in the corner.
The game itself plays fine when it is playing, but that is just strange. Not a good sign.

PC Download Link just to make things easy for people. This is the Origin download.
Post on the official forums by Curt Shilling, quoting lead designer Ian Frazier about those pesky bugs:
"Unfortunately the only way to get both the demo and the game out the door on time was to branch the demo off of the main game a few months back, then try to copy over bug fixes from the main game to it where possible, while cutting out all the bits of the game that should NOT show up in the demo in order to get the download size down to something reasonable.
As a result, a great many polish bits and bug fixes from the main game didn't make it into the demo (some particualrly noteworthy fixes relate to audio cutting out or being significantly delayed). It's frustrating for us because we want the demo to be as shiny as possible, but in the end of the day we wanted to focus the bulk of our bug fixing and polish efforts on the final game rather than the demo. Hopefully you'll thank us for that on Feb 7th."

This is true; but man playing them both back to back, limited options or not, the game is way better looking on the PC. Everything is just brighter and clearer.
I may end up regretting it, but I'm going to hope the issues are just the fact that the demo is an old build and go with the PC version.
Played the demo, stopped after the tutorial. This is a Day 1 purchase for me. The combat felt tight and actiony, I like the abilities and skills. Lots of gear, crafting, houses to buy. It's like Fable minus the bullshit, plus more varied combat, plus some Elder Scrolls.
I was REALLY impressed that the controls are seamless back and forth for a PC. I have a gamepad plugged in. If I use it, all the prompts are Xbox gamepad buttons. If I wiggle the mouse or use the keyboard, everything instantly changes over to keyboard and mouse prompts. That said, it's built for consoles, and gamepad is going to be the way to go.
Whoever said this is pretty much an mix of every RPG you love wasn't lying.
That was me in the OP a while back.
I am just really glad that everyone else seems to be liking the game as much as I did. As soon as I played it, I was really on board with what they were doing.
Two points for KOA with being able to interrupt your attacks fluidly. I'm playing the 360 demo and it hard locked shortly after I got the daggers. I'm not sure what that's all about, but I'm giving it another go to try and get farther.
Stealing is a thing. Crime and punishment feels a lot like Skyrim.
They also have collectable lorestones. Each has a little bit of story attached, and if you collect all 5, you get a unique buff, like frost resistance or extra piercing damage.

Originally with stealing/murdering if a chicken saw you it would alert the town guards and give you a bounty. I kind of wish that they kept that bug, because chickens are total narcs and everyone knows it. You shouldn't be surprised it feels like Skyrim though, because many of the guys who worked on this are close to Bethsoft (they are near one another) or worked on Elder Scrolls games at some point.
Played the demo. Game plays/feels exactly like Fable to me. The fact this game at release won't have multiplayer seems like a huge missed opportunity to me as well...it really feels built for it.

I can see a lot of influence from Fable, Elder Scrolls, Dragon Age, etc in this game. Don't I can't say it specifically favors one over the other.
That being said I had a lot of fun with it and honestly I didn't even want to play the demo because I knew I only had so much time with it.
