I am really enjoying the game. I hit a couple of snags, like the camera would go wonky for a bit, but it's a blast. The hardest part is deciding what to use.
liked the controls, the environment. it felt good to play. FoV seemed really cramped, though. hopefully we can bump that up a bit. i felt at times i was moving faster than the camera could keep up.
also, i apparently picked the wrong lock in town, and spent the next 40 minutes killing everything.
EVERYTHING.
this may present an obstacle to quest completion.
but fuck it, i ain't going to jail. if i have to kill everyone then i fucking have to kill everyone. kind of got old fast, but there was no way to reset my reputation. couldn't find any sort of save system either. eh.

Played the demo. Game plays/feels exactly like Fable to me. The fact this game at release won't have multiplayer seems like a huge missed opportunity to me as well...it really feels built for it.
Well, this game is the precursor to the MMO, so that may not be too off in the future.

I took a quest to steal a book, and the lady refused to take it from me. Also, I still don't understand how dispelling chests works.
i like how depth-y the combat feels. i don't even mind the fantasy trappings that much. but certain game conventions have me a bit pissed off
like, why can i knife someone in stealth mode and not be seen, but picking a lock in an empty home summons every goddamn guard in a 10 mile radius?
furthermore, if you're going to make 20 guards chase me for opening a damn chest, at least make that part fun? if i have to spend the entire game as an outlaw, there should be a whole set of different quests and stuff to do.

I'd play this as an MMO for ages with this combat system. But as a single player game...I think i will pass and wait for a sale. I like it, but not enough to buy it at full price.

Someone noticed you or saw you do it if they were chasing you (I didn't have that issue when I played it back in December - might be a demo bug). Being an outlaw works exactly like TES games, they will aggro for a time but after a while they will "forget" about your misdemeanors and you can go back. But again, much like TES (Skyrim in particular) if you have a very high bounty on you they won't forget and will continue to attack you on sight.
Edit: I am downloading the demo shortly, mostly because I want more of this game - MORE!

so me killing 40 guards is basically past the point of no return, huh
also, thanks for telling me that about TES. not a fan of that mechanic unless it's fully supported.

Also you can just go to jail, then jailbreak yourself out and attempt to escape if you feel like doing it that way.
Edit: I think so. You would certainly have trigged the bounty achievement. I am going to play the demo and have a look for myself, but I'm certain you would have been seen/caught by someone. I am actually not sure if lockpicking and similar actually pauses the game while you are doing it.
I actually think this mechanic makes a good deal of sense, just don't get too high a bounty or accept the consequences. Would you rather this game had everyone that didn't decide they were your enemy invulnerable to attack like Dragon Age 2?
nah, my beef is this: should i decide that nobody gets to fuck with me, am i automatically locked out of 90% of the game's quests and contents?

No, just pay the fine or go to jail. I think most of the main quest NPCs still talk to you and like Skyrim, it's based on individual towns/villages IIRC.
Man, I played the 360 demo with a fighter type and the PC one with a caster type and I can't decide which one I like more.
Melee seemed boring until right at the end of the demo when I unlocked earthquake and some other charge attack and then shit got real. Magic is usually my least played in this type of game but boy if blasting shit wasn't a...blast. >.> I actually felt like a powerful mage even early, as opposed to most games of this type where you spend so damn long as a caster weak as hell turning me off from them immediately. I'm going to want to play through each type.
This would be fine if it weren't for the fact that the game is so obviously huge. Just what I needed; another non-mmo skyrim type "welp, my backlog is just going to continue piling up" game.
Right after FFXIII-2 and right before ME3 too And knowing my luck Diablo 3 will come out right around then too.
Good lord, this is worse than the fall, game wise. Whats up with that?
Anyway ordered the PC version at best buy. I noticed if you play with KBAM you can set up 10 hotkeys so that's cool. It felt much better to play with a 360 controller however, so I'll probably just stick with that.
I might change my mind after playing the full game, but I really didn't feel like the setting warrants an MMO made on it, at all. It isn't the most generic fantasy setting around (hi elder scrolls), but at the same time, at least in the short-ish demo it also doesn't bring anything really meaningful to the table to stand out in that genre. Shit, even Rift already did the "hey you're dead but now you're alive and better" thing, so that's not even new.
IMO, again, could change my mind with full game, they'd be much better off making a 4-8 player co-op xpack/dlc/sequel and keeping the player count down instead of trying the massive route.
I hope the game does really well, it seems like the folks who made it actually care about their game being fun and quality; but I'd hate to see a good thing squandered by throwing money at yet another fantasy MMO.

The game needs an editor. The characters repeat themselves to an annoying degree. Also, the story isn't interesting in the least. The side quest where you turn the guy back into a wolf was decent, but the main story quests were a bore. Blaa blaa chosen one, fate/no fate, evil things, blaa blaa.

the combat system is what would sell me on it as an MMO. I am soooooo sick of "point, click, watch dude fight, click some skills, watch your dude stand there and exchange hits" WoW style combat that I cannot bring myself to play more games with it. It's even killing The Old Republic for me because i am so burnt out on that style of combat. I would love for it to be more skill based instead of so automated and boring to watch.
Do you have to be connected to Origin to play this? I am at work and it usually slows down here after midnight. I want to play this but I have no internet access.
I'm still not sure how stealth works. Is it purely stats and LoS or does clothing/light factor?
It seems to be based entirely on LOS and your stealth skill. I need to experiment more with it, but it seems to be a fairly simple system. I'm kinda ok with that though. This game's foundation seems to be to take a lot of solid concepts from various RPGs, keep them simple, but don't make them dumb. That way the game is chock full of tons of different options and things to do while being very accessible. The demo locked on my 360 again though, so I wasn't able to run the clock all the way down. It locked up with about 8 minutes left to go while I was fighting a random red legion do (and by fighting, I mean shoving my daggers into his back repeatedly). I hope the full game isn't this unstable.

Never mind, it is also on Steam. But it did ask me for my origin account info when I booted it up.
So, it's pretty much what is expected? Genericness with a possibly great/fun combat system/game design and some interesting sidequests?

The world is colorful which is a nice break from every game being a slurry of brown, I don't really get the Fable comparisons, as apart from first glance aesthetic (well, I guess that's where it comes from) it's nothing like Fable at all, other than being 3rd person. The combat is much more involved and the ways you can customize your character lead to some pretty great variety in gameplay.

More or less. It is quite fun though and glancing at higher level skills in the various trees I can only imagine combat would get more fun.
Everything else is very Skyrim/Fable (in a good way).
I know it's been said before but the game is basically the combat of Darksiders (fuck you God of War ), the openness of Skyrim, and the aesthetics of Fable. It doesn't have the goofyness that Fable has, but whether that is important is subjective.
Like darksiders, the game is derivative in virtually every possible way, but to the point that...
If you only played the first hour of most RPGs they'd be pretty boring and generic. I just feel the demo is there to see if the gameplay is good. I'll have to hold off on pissing on the story til I actually get to see a decent bit of it.
For me, like Skyrim or FO3 or whatever, the story will probably be the least important part of the journey.
That's not to say I don't care about stories in games, but some games, for whatever reason, I just don't care to the point that a bad story still can't hurt a game that I have a blast playing.
Oh yeah, this was probably obvious to everyone but me, but in case you didn't notice while playing the demo, you can equip anything in your primary/secondary weapon slots. For my fighter playthrough I thought that it was just for bows; but nope, you can have a sword in one slot and a hammer in the other; two staves for a caster, whatever.
Never mind, it is also on Steam. But it did ask me for my origin account info when I booted it up.
Origin Account = EA account. It asked you because playing the demo unlocks items for both Reckoning and Mass Effect 3 on your account.
Edit: Also, the Fae are pretty cool. What with them repeating the stories of their legendary heroes over and over. Or rather, they just repeat naturally. Hero slays the beast, saves the Princess. Some time later, the Hero slays the beast and frees the Princess. And they got a whole sub society dedicated to keeping these stories alive and repeating.
It's pretty cool!
From what I've seen you guys are saying it sounds like exactly what I wanted from Fable. I loved all three of those games, but they were very small in scope and quite short. I wanted more of that, and Im hoping this can deliver...
Downloading the demo now. Probably going to preorder it if its as good as I hope it is.
Just finished one runthrough. Had a blast. Did a couple of sidequests, killed a bunch of dudes, went apeshit on some Forsworn in their own base at the end.
Gonna try full on Finesse this time. Went might/finesse hybrid last time and didn't have a whole lot of success with sneaking.
