Okay, I am sneaking over here from the SC2 forum. Shhh don't tell them I'm over here, they don't like to share. :P
So I recently got a beta key to this game. Have yet to try it out, is there generally a way to meet up with people for it and try it out? I'd like to get on at some point tomorrow for the first time.
To play with PA people you should join the in-game chat channel and ask if anyone wants to play.
e: it's just called like "penny arcade" or something it should be easy to find when you look for it
oh dear lord dota doesn't understand how to fit on my screen. I tried to fix it and it only got worse O_O
What are you running at?
You may want to consider going into your Steam library, right-clicking on DotA 2, selecting 'Properties', then 'Set Launch Options' and putting in something like "-window -noborder -w 1280 -h 1024", where W is the horizontal resolution you want to play at and H is the vertical resolution. -window and -noborder just make the game play in a full-screen window without any annoying borders, which makes it easier to alt+tab out.
Among highlights, Dark Seer nerfs (aghanim ult can't create allied replicas anymore), a ton of all around buffs and you can now split sange and yasha great news for all of you HoN fans
He was way too passive and defensive back then. That's why he was changed. But now he's not that interesting. So meh.
He, alongside Terrorblade weren't in the pool until 6.73 because they would have completely overpowered the metagame, and that is fact...from icefrog himself. They retooled nearly every hero that needed something minor, and buffed (hardly nerfed a hero) in one of the most game defining patches in recent history. New Items, New heroes, Improvements to most heroes. This set the bar that with such extreme changes, slotting Tree/TB/etc into CM would only help narrow their focus. I find Tree extremely interesting, regardless of the state of his "remake" is in. I can't wait for all the heroes to be put into this game.
That's what I meant, though. Old old Tree was a really passive hero. People liked him, but Icefrog obviously wanted to move the game away from that style of play, which is why he remade heroes like Razor and Storm Spirit, who used to be straight ricing heroes and got changed to mid-game powerhouses.
Tree got remade and when a hero is remade they're taken out of the CM pool. Then, just around the time people might have expected him to be put back into the CM pool, he was remade again. That meant he was out of the CM pool for a long time. At least a year, I think. Regardless of which version anyone prefers, the remakes meant he never got played.
Also not surprised about 6.74. Icefrog did say it was coming so that he could start working on 6.75.
Invoker
- Chaos Meteor damage increased from 80+Exort*30 to 80+Exort*35
- Chaos Meteor land time decreased from 1.5 to 1.3 - EMP can no longer hit Invulnerable/Tornadoed units
- EMP cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds
- Sun Strike damage type changed from Magical to Pure
- Sun Strike now reveals the area it will hit before the damage impact - Tornado cooldown increased from 25 to 30 seconds
- Tornado Damage decreased from 77.5+(Wex+Quas)*23 to 70+(Wex+Quas)*20
Black Hole finally gets the Force Staff buff. Now Enigma and Void can stop being terrible against a moderately priced support item.
Invoker nerfs aren't so bad. I mean, now the player has to be able to time emp tornado instead of just throwing it out and hoping something happens. But it will still be done. But carrying arcane boots already soft-nerfed that as a counter-push combo.
Juggernaut shouldn't lose people in the fog so easily with flying vision on his ult. I like that change.
Keeper gets a man leak buff. I will hate when people start playing him in pubs again when he gets into dota 2. Such an obnoxious pub hero.
Kunkka buffs should make it a little easier to land his combos, which is really the only thing keeping him back.
Lanaya psi blades buff! I will still feed with Lanaya.
Not sure about the Lion changes. He'll be more mana hungry, but won't need as many points in hex to get the same results. I guess he could take an earlier point in mana drain in some lanes.
Magnataur gets an ease-of-use change. It's not just Valve doing that stuff.
I guess Morph can put some more points in his ult to make up for his other nerfs. Though being able to dodge better with wave is nice.
Oh. My. God. Naga buff. Thank god! Her rip tide casting mechanism was already so awkward. And no casting point! I was down on her remake just because I loved her when she was easy and my only good agi carry, but now I am so happy and I want to play wc3 dota and I want her in dota 2. I bet the Pinoys are having parties.
I really like the NA remake. His old old skill was garbage, but swarm didn't really fit him. Last time I actually saw him played competitively was as a support, and that's just sad. This new skill will be amazing for ganking, which is his job. Plus it will probably look totally badass in dota 2.
Haha Ogre gets agh's again. And it's even better than before! I want it so much.
And PA gets a big early and mid game buff. Good for her. She will be even more pubstomp when she hits dota 2.
Puck changes are cool. Makes him even harder to catch, but laning him will require more attention. He'll also be even more of an lpb hero. And his agh's effect is still dumb.
Queen of Pain gets a mostly pointless buff to a skill nobody wants to level anyway. Meh.
Shadow Fiend gets another minor buff and some more incentive to stop farming. He'll still never get picked.
Tranquil boots can be disassembled. I've been skeptical about these boots from the beginning. But I guess they're better now.
Wisp, Thrall, Rubick in CM. Too bad all the Euros stopped playing wc3 dota. I really want to see these 3 heroes. At least Rubick and Wisp should be auto-banned for a bit. I think Wisp and Rubick will be perfect for Pinoy dota.
I am annoyed that we probably have to wait a week or two for these changes to make it to the test server, then another week for them to get into the game proper. :<
@Page: They said that new patches will be on the test server for only a day (Wednesday) before being released to the main game now.
- The courier price shift is interesting.
- Veil got a buff - maybe people will remember it exists now
- More mana to range creeps? Cool for Lion and possibly Magina.
Having just yesterday been in a game where someone decided to courier feed when losing, I like:
- Courier death team bounty can only trigger while no couriers are dead
He's good in pubs, but he's got no team fight presence if you're not good at sleeping, because all his skills are single target, have long cooldowns, and cost a ton of mana. And if you just run in and sleep someone then some pub will instantly aoe them or attack them and put themselves to sleep.
But in the mid game he can run around and fuck some people up. Run into a side lane, sleep one, ult the other while your team goes to work on them. Guaranteed 2 kills.
He has absurd move speed, which is nice. He has a decent animation but terrible range. Get a soul ring and a bit of survivability. If you get the soul ring early enough you can harass alright.
You can sleep yourself if you get ganked. Only magical attacks will safely break it, so if they're out and just trying to right click you then either sleep them or sleep yourself. You can even deny yourself with sleep.
Among highlights, Dark Seer nerfs (aghanim ult can't create allied replicas anymore), a ton of all around buffs and you can now split sange and yasha great news for all of you HoN fans
Ogre Magi
- Added Aghanim's Scepter
Gives his other head the ability to cast a more primitive version of Fireblast. It has a constant (not modified by ultimate/level) 275 damage, 1.5 second stun, 20 cooldown, 400 manacost. It can trigger multicast. This is an independent 5th skill added to his ability card.
In my pursuit of playing every hero, I just did one as Faceless Void. First impression: He is disgustingly easy to last hit with. I'm not entirely sure what order to get his abilities in, but one point in everything and then maxing time lock seemed to work.
" you are at a school or university that is blocking the UDP ports Dota 2 needs to play."
Well, I think my dota2 gaming funtime is dead forever. It's a shame, this internet downloads a gig in 47 seconds but It can't play a lil'bit of dota2 .
I finally got into this game. Had it forever but it didn't capture me until juuust today. I think its because I went 1-5 in my first 6 games--combine that with none of my old dota/HoN friends having the beta, and the sort of sloppy low level play, and having to relearn all the heroes and items and animations, and I just said fuck it. 5-3 on the day today puts me in a much better mood about dota2 as an entity.
I forgot how much fun spiritbreaker is. For some reason he's way cooler than his HoN "equivalent".
Had some good games with Streltsy :^: Hope to get some games in with the rest of you gentlemen in future. Maybe even use the new vent channels and whatnot. Thanks to ubergeek for volunteering to bow out of the 5 for me. A gallant gesture.
No prob val. We ended up losing . 3 loss streak last night. I should have just played skeleton king and murdered everyone, but I was trying to fit with the teamcomp.

Alright, I had to do this for Bastion too, so that might be the problem.
also @biosys HAI BIO! HOW ARE YOU! Are you masters yet?
And yet we won anyways! People only remember either the incredibly awesome hooks or the incredibly lame misses. I don't think you had any of the latter, so it's all good.

So that was my second time playing warlock when we did the in house last night. The draft pick thingie always throws me... but I guess its also good cause then I will learn heroes I haven't played.
More of those type of games though... much more enjoyable over the pub roulette shit.

Delicious.
would probably mess up my team like crazy but ach well
Otherwise there's just not enough reason to actually attack him after 25 minutes.
Hope he looks suitably badass in dota 2. And I want more agh's cosmetics! I bet qop's will look sweet.
