Mirror's Edge is great and all, but inMomentum scratches that hopping around itch for me so much better.
So funny. This comment intrigued me, as I have that same itch. So, I go to the store and look up the game page. Says I already own the game. I check. It's already INSTALLED! Choco, what kind of magic witchcraft are you playing at!?!?
Oh, yeah, it was a write-off game I hadn't heard of in one of the bundles...

inMomentum is pretty damn good at what it does, but it doesn't hit the same button as Mirror's Edge does for me. Mirror's Edge really gets the feeling of interaction across to me, of leveraging your environment. It has some epic set pieces and really does the post-cyberpunk dystopian future thing really well. And who needs guns when you can wall run into a jump kick and flatten some cops? I love the look in their eyes as they realize they've been flattened by a 90 lb woman. Also the slide kick to the nuts is fantastic. The only time I hold a gun in the game is right after a disarm, then I casually fling it away as I bolt off and look for another angle to hit them from.
Honestly I like everything about Mirror's Edge. The story that is close to the ground, you aren't saving the world, or the city. You are risking it all for an estranged sibling on the other line of the law. Hell, I even like the animated cutscenes. The game really just does everything right for me. I truly love it.
inMomentum on the other hand is a rage inducing speed trial game that controls completely differently, has totally different mechanics and is a complete blast. If you like speed, vertigo and time trials you need to get this game during the sale.

I feel exactly the same way. Like, to the letter.

See, I found the best part of Mirror's Edge to be the time trial stuff. The DLC stuff is great, too and looks just like inMomentum basically. Playing inMomentum on the highest difficulty gives you a distinct appreciation for how the stages are built and why.
Also, fuck, anything with rocket jumping has my vote.
someone make a comic edit of skub and replace with mirrors edge.
I wanted to like the game. I even DID like the game. Until every level stopped being "oh hey there area couple cops after you" and became "20 million cops that you have to use our stupid combat system wiiiith"

The best combat strategy is always no combat.
Except for the occasional nut-shot, of course.

There will be a new indie bundle for 20 bucks that includes: IG: Warlord, Rochard, Atom Zombie Smasher, Avadon, Demolition, Inc., Sanctum, Runespell: Overture, Everyday Shooter, Sequence and Zombie Driver!
Pretty decent bundle, though I own a decent chunk of those already so will be passing

There's only one or two points in the game where you actually have to fight them

Bleh, I own virtually all of those games and it's too expensive to consider for the ones I don't
Regardless of how you feel about the gameplay, that is one beautiful game.
Absolutely. Wish it played better though. I read what other people say about it being a freerunning racing game with time trials and environmental interactions and whatnot and think huh? Because it honestly feels like I'm driving a suit of space marine armor or something when I'm playing it. I've pushed a few hours in and at no point did I feel like I was going fast or parkouring or whatever. Maybe if it was in third person, and thus able to show me that through animations, it would be better?
I feel like I'm pushing buttons here when I'm really not trying to like egg on an argument, I just, I dunno. I'm a dude who likes a fuckton of games, I can come up with reasons to buy almost any game Steam has, but when it comes to Mirror's Edge about the only good thing I can say is you can take pretty screenshots if you can keep from throwing your controller through your screen long enough to hit f12.

Magicka today, all the dlc is on sale as well. Even the one that just came out like two weeks ago.
For some reason I though this was Magic The Gathering or some shit. So, why do 68% of my friends already own this game? Is it really good, or was it really cheap at some point? (or both, I suppose)

Yeah, that learning curve is more like a wall--which is thematically appropriate, because, you know... parkour and all that. It's rough at first, make no mistake. But I actually managed to finish it. And if I can, that means anyone can.
And, good god, why hasn't anyone done anything else with that engine?
EDIT: Also, Magicka--worth getting the DLC if I intend just to play that one solo?

It's actually the Frostbite engine, used to build the Bad Company games. BF3 uses a rejiggered version of it.

I had the exact opposite experience. I felt fleet of foot and graceful of limb as I played. I think I played through the game in like three or four sessions, once I got the mechanics down. Everything made sense to me and I just flowed through environments and flattened cops like the slow, ungainly creatures they are.
Perhaps using a controller was your downfall? I play it with KBAM and except for occasions when I screw up the timing, the game plays seamlessly for me.

I felt exactly like Yod on my first attempt with the game. That was on 360 with a gamepad.
A year or so later on PC with KBaM and it just clicked. Everything felt right after I got the hang of it an it quickly became one of my favorite games.

I bought it a year after it came out for $15. After I played it, I wished I had bought it a year earlier for $60.
You are now the President of Calendars!
I wouldn't mind if they redid/retconned the original Deus Ex with modern sensibilities. Also, I need an excuse to punch Bob Page in the dick.

the levels were CLEARLY not playtested at all, though
it was an incredible game. probably shouldn't have come out at $60, would have sold better at $40.
