Regarding Final Fantasy: I think the direction they've gone with the character design ever since, and including, VII, is absolute garbage. IX had potential but then they took Amano's concept art and fucked it in the ass. The goofy part is that Amano has gone and done his own art based on the final designs for VII, VII, and X, and his shit is so much better it isn't even funny.
That said, VIII and X are both underrated and that makes me sad.
I held off on playing it until about a year ago because Tidus was so lame.
I was wrong, and I'm willing to admit that. X is awesome.
TFS those are scripted fights. You go there, you fight them, and then you are done. I'm saying that there should have been randomly encountered ship battles.

I don't think you're correct in calling VII character design garbage, because up until VII the sprites looked like garbage merely due to graphics. It was really the first game where they were able to upgrade. I still think IX was awesome, though it did go overboard with the design.

Also, I said the design was garbage, not the final result. The final result of the non-battle models did look like ass in VII, though. There was no reason they should have gone 3-d for that game. Personally, I think it should have been super high quality sprites with the 3-d battle engine.

You know, I really don't know why everyone gets off on his art. All his characters look like 80's Adam and the Ants rejects.
His art has an incredible feel to it. It carries a great atmosphere and if they had transferred that into the game it would have been so much better.
But no, they dropped him for some other cocksucker and now FF characters look like every other JRPG/anime design.
