    this thread reminded me to get around to deactivating my facebook account
    and
    they actually put up pictures of your friends and say "this person will miss you" and "this person will miss you"

    joke's on you, facebook, I haven't talked to any of those people in months!

    I realize that there are serious concerns re: tracking non-FB web usage & such and I don't mean to make light of user-privacy

    But at first glance privacy concerns on social media sites seem like if I was gonna be worried about some random lurker reading this post.

    When it says "who can search my timeline by name or contact info", isn't that just the same as whether or not I can turn up in search results like before? I just kept it at everyone.

    If more than 30ish people joined, and then maybe actually posted stuff.

    Point is, it's a good idea with around a tenth the userbase as other social media.

    Also wish it wasn't tied to Gmail accounts.

    Which is to say i tied it to my personal/real gmail account that it turns out I am very rarely logged in to. More often than not I'm logged into my junk email account or my work email.

    The trick to making facebook good-

    Don't add people to your friends list that aren't at bare minimum, tolerable acquaintances.

    Shit some of the worst people I'm friends with on Facebook are my family

    The only family I have on my facebook is a few cousins that I don't mind sharing the occasional status update with. They're mostly the same age as me so I don't have any older types checkin' me out. My mom is the only parent of mine on Facebook and she flat-out said she didn't want to add me, which is fine by me.

    I stopped posting on Facebook about 95% of the time when I finally started using Twitter anyways. Now it's just creepin'.

    All of my family lives in Texas. I added a couple of them, because the entire lot would not stop sending me friend requests.

    Then the ones that I did add saw that I'm not a backwoods Texas hurfderf fuck yeah America hick and they finally stopped bugging me.
