Got this off twitter, so news is still coming in, but sources are saying Kim Jong Il is dead. A slightly more informative article.

From what little attention I pay to international events, I thought he had already chosen his successor, a son who's just as crazy, so the chances of this improving the region's kind of slim. But hey, big year for dying when you're one of the many nebulously-defined "Bad guys" who oppose the United States.

The only thing I remember about him is that placed him in charge of some currency shenanigans and it went south so they quickly tried to unassociate him from it.
