I barely remember Diablo 1 on the PSX. I recall coop was a bitch (no split screen so....).
The only thing that kinda worries me is targeting. Besides that, I think it could work! It's too late for me though, already bought a brand new video card so...
Unlike Razer's previous gaming prototype, the Switchblade, the company isn't giving out a hard price for Project Fiona, but said it'll be "under $1,000" when it's expected to launch in "Q4 2012."
Hahaha. Ah.
999;- US dollars!
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
Eden—head for Intel's PC group—was touting the power of their Ivy Bridge-based ultrabooks. He pretended to be driving F1 2011, a very 3D graphics intensive racing game. At the end of his 30 second demo he made a joke and said that he wasn't really driving the car, but someone backstage was driving.
That was the big fat lie: the only thing that was demonstrated was VLC, a video playback software running a pre-recorded demo clip. Nobody was actually playing the game in a computer. The game wasn't even running. You can see the VLC control window appearing clearly at the beginning of this video.
Well, in the way of providing a solution to the whole "digital buttons don't allow for more complex video games" this is a first step. The only stigma immediately identified with it is that the controlling handles look like wand controllers. Also, WiiU jokes here.

You know what they should make this kind of shit for? Exercise machines.
If I could get a split controller set up like that (with or without a screen) tacked onto an elliptical trainer I would be in such great shape. I'm surprised no one has bothered to try this.
I'm trying to imagine if it could even become a thing for gyms to advertise. "We have 10 gaming machines inside! Come play (insert game here) while making your ass smaller for a change".

I guess you don't even need the awkward screen and wand setup really. If someone could figure our how to split a 360 controller in half and retofit it with something that would let you mount it on the handlebars of cardio machines, you could have a sweet little setup in your own basement.

I Retro.
I also wonder what they are working on. I'm kind of thinking it'll be DCKR2, but I am hoping they have something else in the works. Maybe that Zelda spin-off.
About video games on an exercise machine, I asked about it ages ago in help/advice whether such a thing existed, and then later a dude must have seen the post through google and PM'd me about how his company was actually trying to make exercise bikes for gaming and would I be interested in checking it out. At the time I wasn't. The end!
During a roundtable with reporters at the Consumer Electronics Show, a reporter asked a question to Hirai attributing comments to the head of its videogame division, Andrew House, that there would be no announcement about a PlayStation 4 at the show.
Hirai, who appointed House for the job, said they are not talking about a new home console now and that they don’t plan to do so at E3.
“Andy (House) is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3,” Hirai said. “I’ve always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that.”
Video game exercise bikes: I've seen two pretty timid versions. One is a semi-virtual biking exercise where you move through a 3d environment, forest scenery, whatever. Never used it myself, but it looks like it's just a free-floating camera, so not really much of a game.
And the other is an elliptical with a game of solitaire built in. Simplest choice possible, but I probably exercise an extra 15-20 minutes a session because of it. Despite the wonky screen. I'm not sure I'd like to see anything crazy advanced tied into it, as part of the goal is finding a sweet spot between don't-notice-i'm-working-out and so-focused-elsewhere-I-stopped-moving.
I just set up my recumbent bike in my living room and play Xbox. Worked really well. Did it all the time playing Bad Company 2 to where it made it feel way more intense when running away from grenades or crumbling buildings.
Sucked when a loading screen would pop up cause I'd then realize how hard I had set up the pedals. I then just started doing push ups in between game matches.

Does anyone know if backwards-compat Wiis have been discontinued in NA altogether? Or are they still being produced?
I got my sister one for Christmas -- a black WiiMotionPlus package with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort bundled -- and she didn't want it, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't keep it. It seems everything I can find in stores is the NSMB package, which isn't backwards compatible.
I want a Wii eventually -- just haven't bothered to get one, for lack of interest -- but if the backwards compatible models are being discontinued, I figure it's do or die time. I'd really like to have a machine that can play all of my old Gamecube discs.

AnandTech went ahead and verified that even though the video was fake... yes, the hardware is actually capable of running the game, and in DX11:
After the press conference Intel let me know that the demo was a late addition to the presentation and they didn't have time to set it up live but insisted that it worked. I believed Intel (I spent a lot of time with Ivy Bridge at the end of last year and saw no reason to believe that DX11 functionality was broken) but I needed definitive proof that there wasn't some issue that Intel was trying to deliberately hide. Intel promptly invited me to check out the demo live on an Ivy Bridge notebook which I just finished doing.

The Wii model you describe seems like the OG Gamecube compatible Piano Black, since it's the one that came bundled with Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resorts, and as far as I know that's the one that is being phased out. It should be "completely gone" in Europe, but in the US I'm fairly certain it's still in the "being phased out" stage.
An easy way to tell which model you're looking at is to check the top for those two hatches that open to reveal GC cable and memory card ports. If the hatches are there then there should be a small groove where they're separated, and if there aren't any hatches then there's no groove and you're looking at the GC incompatible model.
I'd say you oughta keep the thing and get on that Wii backlog, have some fun hunting down the gems and the keepers.

I guess the question was more -- are back-compat Wii units being phased out altogether? Or just that specific package?
I'm sure that if they're introducing non-backwards-compatible models, there's no reason they'd consider still producing back-compat models, but just thought I'd ask, on the off chance.
I don't really care which package I end up with -- just have concerns that if I want to grab one in the future, I'd want it to be compatible with all of the Gamecube games that I already own.
If that means I'm forced to grab one now... so be it.
Having just recently bought one of the non-BC models myself, I think the easier tell is that not only is the system horizontal on the box, but there was also no stand at all inside to stand it vertically. And yeah, as far as I know it's specifically only the NSMB bundle.
I didn't know they were stopping production completely on the BC models. There are still plenty of them around when I went out shopping. I was kinda agonizing over the whole thing actually. Gamecube support or NSMB. I eventually settled on the latter. If I ever want my Gamecube, I can always plug the thing in.

I think the easier tell is that not only is the system horizontal on the box, but there was also no stand at all inside to stand it vertically.
That's what I've been told as well. If it's horizontal on the box with no stand, it's a non-BC model.
And yeah, as far as I know it's specifically only the NSMB bundle.
It isn't, which is what leads me to believe that the BC models are being discontinued.
Both the limited edition blue and PAL mario kart bundle are models that show on the box horizontally and without a stand.

I don't know this for sure, mind you. It's why I'm asking. I'm trusting skeldare's info completely on faith.

Funny enough, I had the opposite conclusion -- if I ever want NSMB, I can just buy it. I *can't* do that with both a backcompat wii and the wii sports / sports resort pack-ins.
Sony will not announce PlayStation 4 this summer at E3 2012.
Denial comes from the top: Kaz Hirai - overseer of the consumer half of Sony's business (including PlayStation).
"Andy [House - PlayStation boss] is absolutely right in that we are not making any announcements at E3," Hirai told the Wall Street Journal.
"I've always said a 10-year life cycle for PS3, and there is no reason to go away from that."
UK trade publication MCV began the rumour that PlayStation 4 would be at E3 2012 last week. The website publicly backed its anonymous tipster on Twitter.
Sony seems to redefine what the ten year cycle means as they see fit.
Early in the PS3 life, they claimed the PS2 had a "ten year cycle", which the PS3 would be modeled on. This "plan" had it be superceded after 6.5 years (with the PS3 revealed after 5 years at E3 2006). Ten years in, PS2s were certainly doing well, but that didn't mean "no PS3 for ten years!".
At this years E3, it will be 5.5 years since the PS3 launch, and the reason for no PS4 reveal is "the ten year plan". So what does "ten year cycle" mean now? No PS4 until 8 years? 9? The full 10?
i want it on consoles so that's a bonus, but i have a faint feeling that thanks to activision the console ports might not be handled by blizzard, and instead by... treyarch or some shit
