Yeah, unless you really need the demon titanite, that should be the only one you 'need' to kill. And even then you can just avoid him and come back later when you have a better weapon and stats.
When you're attacking him, do it 2handed and only go for 2-3 hits tops, then shield out and wait for him to jump or move.
any advantage to starting a female character over a male or vice-versa, like in Demon's Souls there were those gloves that gave chicks more souls but guys couldn't equip them?
Males look silly in female armour, females look fine in male armour. There aren't any restrictions though, so feel free to roll whichever.
females have a moderately different walking animation and voice, and certain items look slightly different (the thief's hood is the only one with significant differences that I've seen)
thanks doods. can't wait to start this game (possible later tonight! ... stupid presentations...).
Despite running mostly an Intelligence build, I spent some souls upgrading Strength and now I'm einhanding a Magic Zweihander. Good times pinning down enemies with that overhead swing.

Killed ceaseless discharge, very easy fight. Now on to farming up mother fucktons of humanity to get the shortcut. I also need to figure out how to get toxin mist while I'm around there.
to get toxic mist, you need to get infected by one of the egg characters and then talk to the friendly egg carrier near the hidden bonfire
The easiest way to get infected is to run down to the egg guys after the first bonfire (only 2 will aggro to you), and take off your helmet. Let them do their weird "head bite" move on you a couple times. Then run away and wait to see if your character does a head scratch, if it does then save/quit. Reload and after a minute or two the eggs should pop up on your head. Go talk to the EGGNPC while you have the eggs on your head and he provides the item to remove them, and starts selling you spells/items. Once you do all this, his shop will stay open until you attack him or the daughter of chaos.

FINALLY, started this game last night after platinuming Demon's Souls. decided to roll a warrior and focus mainly on dex with str as a secondary stat.
i noticed that combat seems a bit blocky, not as fluid as it was in Demon's Souls. is that just cause my endurance is low?
I have no idea what you mean by "blocky" unless you mean you have to block a lot, which is true I guess. But no, I just finished my platinum in Demon's Souls a couple days ago after doing the same in Dark Souls, and the combat is pretty much identical, except the animation is a bit better and there's much more variety in both the number of enemy types and the number of different attacks each one will use in Dark Souls. The timing for parries and the angle for backstabs are a bit less finicky too.
yeah, I was killed once by a red tower knight in front of the parish elevator
then I climbed back up and fought it again
by the time I killed it, the gravelord had quit or been defeated

That's where one of the gravelords got me as well, but the stupid thing is the knight never left, and my whole NG+ was bugged. I searched every inch of the area for the symbol but never found it. Oh well, it didnt' really hinder me that much anyway.
I rescued Lautrec from his cell and exhausted all his dialogue there. I then defeated the Bell Gargoyles. But he hasn't showed up at Firelink like he is apparently supposed to. I went back to his cell and he isn't there either. His summon sign also wasn't available where it is apparently supposed to be when I was having trouble with the Gargoyles, either (while I was looking up what the hell I was doing wrong, I noticed the thing with Lautrec hadn't happened right). What's going on?
Edit: He finally spawned after I opened up Lower Undead Burg. Maybe that's actual trigger.
From what I've heard, it's random. For my part, I just wasted him back at Firelink as soon as I returned from the Burg, and nicked his fly-ass ring. If he has anything to say to me, he can say it in NG+.

i did the same. it's put me in a bit of a bind though because where I currently am that ring is awesome... but it limits me to only being able to use one other ring which is usually havel's... but if I have to switch havels it also means an armor switch. having two ring slots would give me more flexibility.
The problem with any of the encumberance altering rings is that removing them means you need to readjust your armour, otherwise you'll end up hella slow. That's kinda why I like Dark Wood Grain the best - take it off and because your build is focused around staying under 50%, you still move and roll at a reasonable clip.
There's not really any moment where you'll need to replace both of your rings, so I pretty much never take FaP off :P
I've got those, been in blighttown for a whole day, and the entrance is too far for me to convince myself to run to, and I don't know how to get out, and I don't have any more toxic curing moss, so I may just be in here forever searching for the exit bluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuues

If you want to farm upgrade materials from the slugs in Blighttown, you'll want the Rusted Iron Ring & Covetous Gold Serpent Ring equipped to make things as fast as possible. Other than that, I can't think of any situations where you'd really want to have 2 specific rings on.
Kind of annoyed at the moment that I can't advance further in the areas underneath Blighttown. Hit orange fog, and now I have to go thorugh Sen's to advance the story. I've been spoiled up to this point by what was essentially an open world.
I did go back to the Asylum to take out the Stray Demon. That was a hell of a fight. Definitely harder than what I've been up against so far. Took him down with sorceries, in the end.

Hanging out with my younger cousin, also a Dark Souls fan... watching him start a new game and plough through up to Anor Londo before lunch was heartbreaking.

Hey uh, you guys know the themes on the J-PSN store are out, and FREE, right?
Hey guys, I might just be incredibly stupid, but I think I've misunderstood something about Humanity (specifically, about reclaiming it).
When you die, all Humanity you're carrying (represented by the number in the top-left) is dropped, and can be reclaimed by reaching the site of your death, yes? But if you die while human, is that one point of humanity you used to become human lost forever? Because the guides I've read all seem to indicate that if you die while human, you can reclaim that one point you used to reverse hollowing, and I've never been able to do it.

If you die whilst human, you will lose the point of humanity you used to revive to human.
using a ring of sacrifice will preserve your humanity if you die, though
also, if you die while invading as a darkwraith/with the cracked eye orb, you still have to reclaim your bloodstain, but you keep your human form

I go all the way to the Catacombs with 10 humanity to get the Gravelord miracles, and I realized it was too late since I kind of killed him. Oh well, NG++ then.

Well, you wouldn't have gotten anything anyway, as the gravelord doesn't take humanity. It uses those eyes of death thingies.

Took me 25 tries to kill Havel today. Immediately afterwards, I head to the Lower Burg and kill Capra Demon on the second attempt. This game is bizzarely unbalanced in places.
I'd just expected more difficulty, based on all the screaming and gnashing of teeth that start up any time someone mentions Capra Demon. First time I walked in, I had just enough time to shout OH SHIT DOGS before he pounded me into the ground. Second time, I dodged left, saw the stairs, ran up hoping they'd lead me away, ran up, freaked out, killed the dogs, and then fell back down and killed Capra in a melee duel in the grass. After Havel, he weren't so tough.
That said, Moonlight Butterfly took me two days, and everyone says that's the easiest boss of the lot, so maybe I'm just terrible.

the favor and protection ring is the best one in the game, and it never stops being good

Here's how to find them:
-From the main menu, go to the one with PS3© (Fourth one down)
-Then go to the third one from the left(looks like a picture frame)
-Then go to the last icon with the 50 in it.
-Go to the fourth symbol from the left
-Dark Souls themes, fist one there.
Enjoy!
I'm rolling Darkwraith again.

Well shoot. How do you get those?
Those bug-eyed frog things in the Depths drop them. You need 10, IIRC.
Most recent attempt took me over 20 tries, not quite sure what was going on there.
