Slime knights closes, Big announcement promised...
Apperently the Dragon Quest website, Slime Knights, is going into hibernation. Why?......
Apperently it will be back on June the 1st. And it will be accompanied by a major announcement concerning Dragon Quest. What could it be? I have two theories.
1. US release date for DQ Monsters: Joker (I see this as the most viable one)
2. Release date for DQ IX (A possible simultaneous US/Japan release? Heh...I wish).
"You know how Batman hangs people over the edge of buildings and gets them to spill information. That's Neo Rasa's way of it, but instead of information, he just likes to see people suffer." ~Senor Fish
I dunno, I doubt we'll see Joker over here, I'd think it's more likely DQIX release date, perhaps a release at the same time as the Japanese one, given the popularity of the DS over here.
At least it means they'll stop e-mailing me stupid shit every couple of weeks.

Consdering that we recently got Rocket Slime and Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales is coming out in the U.S. in April, I'd say theres a decent chance that Joker could come over here.
Square-Enix did announce recently that they started a new MMO project, but have yet to release any details.
That...actually seems reasonably likely. Didn't they say that it wasn't going to be FFXI 2?
Of course, they managed to turn a series that is generally perfectly balanced to be grind-optional into a massive grindfest, so I'm kind of scared of what they would do with a DQ MMORPG.

Anyone got any sales figures for Rocket Slime? I know that everyone I recommended it to, bought it, and loved it, and then told their friends...

HOW I MINE FOR SLIMES?
Actually, given that DQIX is going to have four-player, real-time online adventuring, I don't know if S-E would all of a sudden overshadow that with the announcement of an MMO in a very similar vein.

It'd be cool if we got it...but hasn't Joker been out for a while in Japan? I'd think it would have been announced by now.

I'm pretty sure it was like 16k for it's first month on the NPD charts.

Yeah, I never really considered the grinding implications. However, I'd like to think that SE is smart enough to realize that FFXI would've been a much greater success if it had less grinding and more fun.
DQ has huge potential for the MMORPG market. There's a ton of pre-build classes from previous games that they could easily cut/paste into the MMO with some forethought. Not only that, but how sweet would it be to have an MMORPG with similar graphics to DQVIII?

Yeah, no. At least, not if those stupid fucks at Playonline were running it.
"Dur, cancel your account and we'll delete your characters. Don't pay us and we'll ban you! Oh, and you can't renew even if you want to just start over with no characters, because we deleted them! Except we didn't, since we have annual "come back to our shitty Everquest clone" days! HA HA HA, STOOPID AMERIKAN, I HAVE J00 MONEY!"
Yeah. I'd LOVE a DQ Online. Especailly if it was done by Lord British in the style of a modern Ultima Online. But I'll be damned if I give Playonline any of my money, ever again.
Joker was only just released on December 28th, so it hasn't been out that long.
And 6 months from December would put it riiiight around the time Slime Knights reopens.
Which would be just in time for a DQM:J announcement right before it's release in August or so (8 months after release in Japan).
This timing would also very nicely avoid the 3 Pokemon games (Diamond, Pearl, and Wii), and give Nintendo the honor of making the first online monster-catcher/fighter game for the Wii / DS in the US.
I am sincerely hoping that it's DQM:J... since we missed out on DQM:CH. (Fortunately the fan translation of such is coming along really nicely.)

I need DQIX like I need air or water. A release date would give me time to prepare time off of work.

Rocket Slime was announced back in Summer 06 for a September release so Joker has a good chance of being one of the titles.
