A lot of them suck. I think mine are pretty good though. They've been trying to do a drive to increase the quality. I would write a lot more if I had time.

I try to stick to obscure bands though, to give people an idea what they would or would not like. I mean, i could review the Iron Maiden back log but.......you should know what that sounds like already anyway.

Regardless it's one of the most complete sources for band information ever.

I try to stick to the sound of the band, actually giving info on how the drums, bass, guitar and vocals come together. Always bringing up the production value as well. Then I mention the stand out songs and sum up what the band is doing right or sucking at, or if you would like it according to another band.

I'm still developing my review style though.

    heh

well, a lot of the reason is to evoke that atmosphere of cold grimness that envelops the genre, and to make it even harsher and more inaccessible than it already is.

and a lot of them are bedroom projects and shit

story goes that Ulver recorded Nattens Madrigal in the middle of the forest and used the money that Century Media (i think was their label?) gave them to record it on cars and suits and shit.

I love Ulver, or more specifically Garm, or TriksterG or whatever the fuck he calls himself these days.

You never have any idea what you're going to get from him.

no, some of the best black metal albums are "poorly produced". it's more about vision though. are you trying to make it sound like a fuzzing wall of death on purpose or are just lost in a studio.

Oyvind Hageland's vocals are the only reason I really dislike Spiral Architect. I could've dealt with any other member working with Arcturus.

Except maybe the drummer. I prefer Hellhammer's sense of texture.

Shit, I was reading something just now that claimed Oyvind was out of Arcturus. I go to Wikipedia and see there's a new vocalist. I'm reading through his article and thinking, "ICS Vortex is the stupidest fucking name ever" when I realize I drove him to Guitar Center 4 or 5 years ago and he bought me bass strings.

    OR WILLIE NELSON!

 Livin on the road my friend, is gonna keep you free and clean
Now you wear your skin like iron
Your breath as hard as kerosene
You weren't your momma's only boy, but her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
    And sank into your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boy, his horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel
Pancho met his match you know on the deserts down in Mexico
Nobody heard his dyin words, ah but that's the way it goes:whistle:

I've only heard one Ulver song.

I wasn't so much impressed by the song as the video being all kinds of spooky. Any recommendations as to their best/most accessible work would be great.

    Ever Ulver album is different.

    Very Different

Kveldssanger is all very simple acoustic folk stuff.

Themes From William Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell is industrialy/techno-y oddness (With some awesome tracks - Proverbs of Hell beiing the best imo

Perdition City is odd experimental electronica with only one real song. Good for listening before going to bed.

The others I'm not familiar with but I know a couple are facing melting black metal.
