Laptop Keyboard possessed

The keyboard on my laptop has begun to lose its mind. It randomly will insert 5's with out any prompt. Makes it hard to type sentances that don't have 5's every other letter.
Is there a way to disable the keyboard on my laptop (or at least the number 5) and just use my USB keyboard? Its actually preventing my laptop from going to sleep and unless I leave notepad or a browser open it causes the laptop to beep at random intervals.

Either the 5 is stuck or thebutton that does 5 is stuck when you press FN. Tap firmly on the button a few times and that might fix it.

and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them

If it's a mechanical issue, you should be able to remove the "5" key(s) from the keyboardboard* and hopefully fix what's going on. Sometimes things like crumbs will sneak down there and cause annoying issues like this.

*Check the user's manual (Google is helpful if you don't have the hard copy anymore) to see how exactly you should be removing and replacing any keys on your keyboard.

It appears its not the number 5 exactly but the ' i ' key itself (num lock was on and this masked the real key). Took the key off and can't see whats keeping it down. Wondering if the contact is just old and randomly creating the connection.
