Personal iOS Development

I dunno if this is a question for G&T but I thought I'd ask here

I am disappointed by most of the available D&D Combat Tracker applications on the iPhone's App Store and I want to make my own

I have no problems learning Xcode, getting the SDK, etc, but it looks like to make Apps you need to pay apple a hundred bucks a year to become an apple developer

I don't wanna submit a thing to the App Store for public use. I just want to make an application for my own personal use on my phone, for my D&D group

Is there a way to do this short of jailbreaking/illegal channels?

You need to pay the $100 to publish an application to your phone. Period.

Without paying that money the best you can do is run it on your Mac directly.

    $100 or jailbreak, pretty much.

unfortunately that is the price you pay to play in apple's world. Android may be cheaper but their tools are FAR less helpful.

You can also write it as a web program and put it as a home screen icon on your phone. If you write it in javascript you can cache the entire thing offline and even use a database.

Hmm. Doesn't the iPhone clear the cache pretty regularly?

You can set a cache manifest file that will prevent the local files from being deleted.

    I am 90% sure.
