Printer problems. Help?

So, okay. I made a thread about this same printer a while ago, but this is a different problem.

Clicking "Proceed" on the verification menu does nothing. It goes to print a test page, and then it tells me "the document failed to print." The printer is an HP Business InkJet 1100. Apparently it was not specifically designed for Windows XP, but the included driver CD includes XP drivers, so it works. Problem is, it isn't immediately recognized by my computer (XP Pro). It isn't Plug n' Play, I don't think, or if it is it doesn't matter in XP because it isn't recognized.

I cannot get it installed. What do I do? I've tried Control Panel > Printers > Add Printer. It "adds" the printer to my list, but it doesn't do a Goddamn thing, even when I click "Proceed" on the verification form. I've tried 'search for new hardware,' and it doesn't pick anything up. I tried just running the installation CD, and when it searches for hardware at the end of the installation, it cannot find anything. and it rolls back the installation. It tells me to make sure it's hooked up & online, and it is. I don't know what to do. I've re-plugged-in everything and blown the dust out once, and that hasn't worked either. I don't know what to do.

Please, H&A, help me print my documents. They are numerous and lengthy.

    Did you read the manual?

Sometimes you need to read the manual, because they do things in a wonky order like Install the Drivers then attach the device.

This is especially true on Multifunction Printers.
