I have just had to start Cave Story from scratch for the third time
First time I didn't realise how saving worked
second and third I didn't expect to die so soon
ughhh I am bad at the video games
The True Ending is a bit funky to access. Doesn't help that the jump is a bastard and a half to get right and you need to reload a save every time you fail

Yeah, that part fucking SUCKS. Moreso because it's at the end of the fucking waterworks, and you gotta redo it everytime you mess it up. :?

Fair enough, but you miss out on the badass completed polar star later on that makes fighting everything a breeze.
it is a good game but does a lot of things that are annoying and bad design
like unavoidable backtracking at the end of every level I've played
and sometimes giving you 0 clues to your next objective
and having a part where you game is unable to progress forward until you talk to things in a very specific order with no indication that this is the case

I did unlock the ending where you run away from the island like a wuss, however.

so far I've hit all the flags for the true ending (woo walkthroughs)
but the final area seems so awful I might not do it

The machine gun sucks compared to what you can get if you hold onto the polar star until you get back to the Mimiga village later on.

i remember the macine gun and how awesome fun it is to propel yourself everywhere with your gun
i do not remember the spur even though im pretty sure i got it in my second (uncompleted attempted best ending) playthrough
so even though the spur is presumably stupidly powerful
