The story was just funny and twisted enough to keep me interested in between solving those crazy-ass puzzles, too. Very underrated game. Haven't gotten far into PA2 yet, but I did grab it during Xmas sale.

I finished PA2 recently, and I wasn't very impressed. The story didn't have as many good moments to it as the original and all the puzzles were really basic. Admittedly, I do a lot of puzzles, but the only time I found any of the puzzles to be a challenge was when the puzzle rules were written poorly and it took awhile to figure out what they actually meant. Or if the puzzle was "using the 6 provided pieces, create a 2x3 maze that connects the start and finish" and it's just an annoying trial and error puzzle. For a couple of bucks, sure, the games are fine, but don't expect any real head-scratchers.

I didn't win any of the recent deluge of Steamgift raffles, but wanted to thank all the classy gents for tossing them out there. My Steamgifts points haven't been assaulted that hard even during the Holiday sale.

I never played the second one, but my biggest problem with the first were the puzzles that required you to make unfounded assumptions about things. You were basically just guessing because they didn't give you enough information to actually solve the puzzle. I did really like the one where you had to figure out who was working at the plant at what time though. I think that one required you to make assumptions but they were logical ones (don't remember specifics off hand).

This is the only issue I have while playing through the first one. I think there was one early on that had to do with 4 women and one of them starting a fight or something or who could win a fight. It was trial and error that required unfounded assumptions.

Only seen one or two of those so-far but they are annoying.

Yeah, never did before, but with this huge list and realizing I'm starting to forget what games I have, having a bit of classification so that I know what I have from a particular genre when I feel like scratching a particular itch seemed a good idea. Besides, now I've already classifid half of them, I'm not going to leave it half-classified. It'd hurt my eyes every time I got into Steam.

In other news, I was pawing around the shop, and what is this Evochron Mercenary thing, and if it really is pretty much a new Freelancer as it looks like, why did nobody tell me of this and why don't I have enough money to buy it?!

I'm sort of disheartened about the categories, because I've twice now spent the time organizing my games into them, only to have them completely disappear a day or so later. And considering I've only really been on Steam actively a couple months now, it happens a bit too frequently for me to trust at this point. I do, however, log into my account from three different machines pretty much on the regular, though, so that may have something to do with it (I seem to remember someone here mentioning awhile back that Steam has a tendency to delete categories if you do that). But who knows.

As far as organization goes, a really wish you could have subcategories. That would really help in the whole "is game X really a shooter, or a first person puzzle racer?" or whatever-the-fuck dilemma. I found when I did my big iTunes organization awhile back, though, that if you keep the categories bigger, you don't run into many problems like that. Easier said than done, though...

I've completely given up on categorizing stuff after it became too difficult to locate games I want. e.g. Fallout 3 was hard to file under either FPS or RPG, and I'd forget where I put it.

I've tried to organize my games by genre/playstyle. I have a 'console' section for games I like to play with a gamepad (typically on my TV) which includes a bunch of console ports (excluding ports like Borderlands that are really FPS games that play better with KBAM IMO). There's a 'finished' category for games I've completed and don't feel like playing again right now.

Then there's a 'strategy' category, which is getting rather large and should probably be broken down smaller. A 'music game' category, which Sequence *isn't* in because Sequence is in my 'Console' category... this isn't working out well for me. My 'FPS' category is pretty simple, but the 'platformer' category is confusing, not to mention the 'rpg' and 'puzzle' category. To organize this way the 'categories' really need to be 'tags' so any game could have multiple tags. (I may send Steam a request for such a feature)

In short, my dumb filing system doesn't work with the way categories are implemented and just makes things more confusing. Now I use the search bar to find games I want to play now. The drawback to that is that I forget I have games that I bought in a pack.

Yes. You just need to bind the keys. The problem is that the controls were clearly designed for the keyboard. 360 controller works decent for the first levels. However playing with the analog controls is a chore later on, and the 360 d-pad sucks. If the input is right+up instead of right, you die. And vice versa. I couldn't get it right anywhere near 100% of the time with the 360 controller, so I had to change to a PS2 gamepad. YMMW.

I've been using Steam categories for years and I've never had any problems. If I had to guess, I'd say your speculation about routinely using it from multiple computers is on the right track. Not that I have any basis for saying that, it just sounds very plausible. :)

Also, what I wish they'd do is make categories into tags, functionally speaking. In other words, just let me put a single game into multiple categories. That way I can put Mass Effect in FPS and RPG without having to decide which place it fits better.

e: Vicktor knows what's up. Tags all the way. I'm honestly kind of amazed they haven't already done that. The UI for assigning categories is already a series of checkboxes, it's just that you can only check one at a time.

Those are giveaways that are only available to members of a particular Steam group, like the PA group. If you can see them, you're already in the group and so can enter the giveaway, I'm pretty sure.

Group giveaways can only be entered by people belonging to that Steam group. So PA group giveaways can only be entered into by group members. Otherwise, anyone could enter the contest.

With the amount of classiness on these forums, that's not a huge leap of logic. But you know if the PA community set up such a service it wouldn't use a point system, it would require story or image submissions to enter various contests.
