As an Activision CE it will be "limited" to the amount of people who they can sell one too. Amazon did the same thing with "selling out" with alot of other games; MW3, Duke Nukem Forever and Old Republic all come to mind. Then when those games came out there were thousands of copies available.

Except all the Blizzard CEs have always been really limited.
Well limited to me means it sells out and is unavailable. The games released after Activision took over (SC2, Cataclysm) aren't worth much, if anything, over retail. SC2 CE wasn't worth anything sealed until retailers clearenced out overstock, now it's creeping back up.
If a CE ends up on clearance it wasn't really limited.
Point is, if you want Diablo 3 CE there is a 0% chance you won't be able to buy one around release.
I managed to nab the Burning Crusade Collector's Edition for like $30, over a year after it launched. Though I hear they really overproduced that one in response to the WoW one selling out super, duper, duper fast.
Point is, if you want Diablo 3 CE there is a 0% chance you won't be able to buy one around release.
I guess we'll find out eventually, but man, if I spend all of ____day running around for one and come home empty handed, I'm sending you a tersely worded private message.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said NOT TODAY, MOTHERFUCKER!

I don't think "Blame Activision" works in this case, since TBC was the most abundant and the least valuable Blizzard CE they've released, and that was almost a year before the merger.
I'm constantly annoyed that in the move after I got married that my base CE box was missing. This was...6mo after WoW came out though, so still too early for my wife to hate it enough to do it out of spite
I wonder if I could just buy the box itself and not the actual CE since I already have everything else.
Was playing Diablo 2 earlier and a thought occured:
Are Andariel and Duriel supposed to be possessing humans like all the Prime Evils, or are they in the mortal world in their true demon forms? (I can't really remember what the rule is for the Evils being in the mortal plane)
Andariel and Duriel obviously don't have Soulstones, but if that's them in their true forms then they are pretty weak by plot standards. Though if they have human hosts, I'm not sure where Duriel would have gotten his unless he possessed a random corpse in the tomb (Andariel obviously had many different rogues to pick from).
I wonder if we encounter any Lesser/Prime Evils in D3 if they will be in the mortal realm and have hosts or not.
In regards to the D3 Collector's Edition, I really doubt it's completely sold out before there's even a release date. I imagine Amazon will be selling them again as soon as they have a firm word on release dates and shipments and what not. And a quick googling shows that Best Buy's website is still letting you preorder it regardless.

I don't think you need a host to be in Sanctuary. The Prime Evils manifest themselves in hosts probably because of their weak states and their desire to regain their full strength so they can rule them all (again). The three brothers got slain by Azmodan and his minions and the three of them got sent to Sanctuary as a punishment of some sort. Then they got captured by Tyrael and his mortal cronies and trapped them in soulstones. Two of them stupidly nudged the soulstones into their bodies, thereby magnifying their powers once the Prime Evils took control. Blah blah blah just according to plan.
I think one of the plot threads in D3 is that one of the demons is seeking out a super powerful mage as a host or some such. Diablo's true form hasn't been revealed so far, so I hope he has a more... intimidating appearance in the game than he has now in one of the trailer reveals.

I'm still subscribing to the theory that Diablo's form will be the three-faced dragon.
As for the other Evils, going from the information presented in Book of Cain, the very reason why both demons and angels wanted to eradicate humans is because they have the nephalem potential which would allow them to be more powerful than anything else. So, it might be that the player characters are simply unlocking their dormant abilities as they level up.
Main points:
Skill and Rune systems being reworked.
Scrolls of Identification are no longer in the game.
Moved the fifth quick slot button, which is becoming a dedicated potion button.
Removed the Mystic artisan, will most likely return in an expansion.
Removed the Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube.
The Blacksmith artisan will now salvage items.
Common (white) items will no longer be salvageable.
Stats redone:
"We're changing core character attributes to Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Vitality, and the benefits each stat provides is being broken down as:
We're dropping Defense, Attack, and Precision as attributes, Armor is taking over for what Defense used to provide, +Physical Resist will take over for Armor, and +Chance to Crit will fill in for Precision."
Major points for those who can't click the link due to work filters:
*Scrolls of Identity are gone, just right click the unidentified item and after a short cast time your character will figure out what it is for free.
*Fifth Quick Slot has been moved and is now always for potions only.
*Mystic Artisan removed from the game, hope to come back after release (aka: expansion)
*Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube removed from game, now you have to go back to town. Additionally the Stone of Recall was renamed back to Town Portal and added to the default UI instead of in the Inventory.
*The Blacksmith can now salvage items, but white items can no longer be salvaged. They are junk.
*Stats were pretty much changed to D2 stats (Strength, Dexterity, Intellect, and Vitality) but with classes getting damage boosts from different stats (ie. Barb=Strength, Mage=Intellect).
*Character page is now gone and stats are now displayed on the inventory page where the Cauldron of Jordan and stuff was.
Until that last one, I thought they might be removing the Cauldron and everything to free up the space the Talisman used to take up so they could reintroduce it in an expansion, but then they put the stats there so I guess not. Also kind of a shame to lose the character artwork that used to be there.
I'm stoked that they removed scrolls of identification, less so that they removed the salvaging cube and Cauldron of Jordan. They kept your character on the move and in the action, now we will be warping back to town every fifteen minutes due to a full bag.
Holy hell, those are some seriously sweeping changes. I like basically all of them but daaaamn.
no kidding. holy shit! and they took stats back to the d2 ones. I'm blown away. this is gonna get me back into this game. grr
the Id scroll change is brilliant. though now cain cant ID for you I was hoping for that as a little throwback. whatever moving up and moving on :^:
potion button and removing the mystic just make good sense :^:
I'm curious how they "resolved the issues with town portal" though. do they just meant the cast timer?
BUT I loved the nephalem cube and salvaging white items. awww maaan this gives me a major sad. that was probably my favorite part of the beta. I never sold anything just cube cube cube salvage salvage salvage....
I feel like + health from globes should go onto vit
Also, Patch 10 needs to hurry up and hit so I can test this stuff.
Whoops.
Well, in my defense when I started writing the post only the link was in that post.
Looking at the Mystic's wiki page, it seems this may have been in the cards for a while because most of the things she made were moved to someone else or removed (ie. Charms), and that left her basically only doing WoW style enchants and identifying items. And now Identifying items is free.
I wonder how they modified the quests and interactions that were associated with her since she was supposed to travel with you the whole game?
I disagree with the removal of the cauldron and cube. They wanted players to be able to sell/salvage w/o having to go back to town... now they are flipping that on its head and forcing them to go back to town every couple of seconds (if you are an avid looter... which you are if you are playing a Diablo game). And that 10second "town portal" cast is going to get really annoying really fast.
In D2, eventually you get to the point where you don't even look at items unless they are unique/set items... I don't see that happening in D3, as the RMAH gives a REAL value to everything. If you aren't picking up every single shiny along the way you will feel like you are missing out on moneyz. They need a way to clean up your inventory on the fly still... or just add a TON of inventory space so you can pick up everything in between major quests (where you have to go back to town anyway).
"We want to make it clear that junk items aren’t worth picking up, and make it easy to identify other items as not for your character. We want to drop a ton of items..." This is not going to happen when real money is involved... if you can sell it or salvage it at all, it is worth something. Yes, not every player is going to be a loot whore and grab everything (which is what they want obviously), but a LOT are.
I'm just really not liking that change at all. If they want there to be "an explosion of items" whenever you kill something, just make it graphical with non-pick-up-able items... that is what they are going for anyway.
Dumbing down stats is ok, BUT: "By specifically targeting stats at classes, we can reduce the amount of item overlap, diversify our item pool, and create a cleaner, more exciting itemization system." I don't see how making the stats class specific can diversify anything... you have less to work with for each class. I'm just getting a bad feeling about this and I hope it doesn't make everyone a cookie cutter, wearing the exact same armor because the classes are pigeonholed into the stats.
AND this: " No one will remember if the game is late, only if it's great." really makes me sad... no Q1 launch.
I just don't understand some of the people that post on Blizzards forums... They are so upset they can't have the game NOW they are getting rid of a preorder or not going to buy the game. Yeah that makes a ton of goosing sense, can't have something now might as well write the whole thing off and never get it.
What scares me most is these people are or will be registered voters. Is nothing worth taking the time to make right to these people? I'd hate to see what these people do for jobs or careers as it seems they would be completely useless for anything other than taking up space and oxygen.

I am happy to see the dev team running the show and doing what they want to do for this game. I am happy to see they have the balls to make drastic changes when they feel it is needed for their game and not some business unit.
I salute you Blizzard - if everything is as it appears you have one of the few remaining creative teams capable of putting out a damn good game.

I hated all the changes, they're pulling all the boring shit from D2 back into 3.
I don't even care about a release date anymore, but I liked the game we had on the beta.
Scrolls of Identification are no longer in the game.
This is where I put on my huge smug face about the discussions we had about scrolls of ID like a year or more ago in a previous D3 thread.
Removed the Cauldron of Jordan and Nephalem Cube.

Why? They simultaneously remove some inconveniences and then add in a new one? Not having to constantly travel back to town (or just leave a bunch of drops behind) was one of the improvements I was really looking forward to in D3. This seems like a big pacing hit to multiplayer games.

This seems fucking huge. Like, back to the drawing board, time to rebalance our game more, longest-Blizzard-beta-ever huge. I guess the current stat system was really not working out for them? At the moment I'm having trouble figuring out how this is much better. The way I read this, it seems like people will want to stack nothing but their damage stat and vitality, since all the other stats will end up being balanced as gimpy half-stats for them. I guess maybe they'll put heavy diminishing returns on everything to encourage people to get a pretty even mix of stats? Hmmm...
