Playing both the NES version and the 3DS game. Either they toned the difficulty down on the NES game or I'm just really good.
As for the 3DS game, I'm having a hard time playing for any length of time because of the way I have to hold the system. Way too uncomfortable. Still trying to get used to the touch screen = shoot and camera. The stand helps but now I have to find a suitable table to work with. Ugh....
The NES game was never that hard, just like the first two levels and then only really if you can't platform or you don't necessarily know where the enemies are coming from. If you get passed those levels it's not bad at all.
The sad thing is most people wrote it off after dying a lot in those two levels. It's a really great game though.
Edit: Side note, the 3DS game, I really, really like the flying segments and kind of hate the hell out of the ground segments. The camera is just really awful. I kind of wish it'd just auto-center.
If I'm sitting I just prop it up with my leg. If I'm holding it up, I hold the right of the 3DS with the bottom part of my right palm. It's still a little uncomfortable but tolerable.

Just picked this up on a whim after watching the Quick Look, and it is damn fun. So satisfying to Rocket Jump guys that try and enter melee range, then quickly put on Autotarget and Freeze to finish them.
My FC's in my sig, feel free to add me. 3DS name is Beeb. I'll also be Streetpassing this at PAX.

If you're using the "Custom" control setting on 3D Classics Kid Icarus, the game is a little bit easier than the original.

Ah I just realized this. They improved the play control and added a very slight fall slowdown if you hold down the jump button, and auto-fire if you hold attack. Ha, went through the whole game without realizing those two things were there.
Probably a good thing, makes the game slightly more fair for new people without drastically changing it.
Edit: Oh, and it looks like a new video of the 3d anime is out. Ahhh amusingly censored partial nudity, so amazingly common in english-dubbed animes :P Kind of surprised to see it here though :P
Side note, I hate Nintendo Video so much. Apparently I can't watch the first one because I waited too long and it only has four things at a time which I can't pick. Ugg. Such a terrible video service.
Edit 2: A brief look on youtube says I didn't miss much. The Thanatos one or whatever looks like crap, not even an anime. Still, the others are pretty great - they aught to just do a real show.

I don't have a problem with the style of the Thanatos videos, because I like 3D stuff and all, but what bugs me about it is just how poor the animation is. PRESUMABLY the animation in the game itself was all done in-house at Project Sora (somebody check the credits and see?), and it looks excellent. Like, amazing. Thanatos Rising, done by a professional animation studio, doesn't even come close.

I have a theory that their reasons for not letting us use the CPP for dual stick action is total BS and the real reason is so that people won't get an unfair advantage online.
I'm trying to picture how the game would operate with the CPP. That would essentially make it like Gears of War or Resident Evil style, yes? Wouldn't that make the maneuvering incredibly slow? I suppose then the ability to use the R-button would be relegated to a Zelda camera centering or RE camera flip function to compensate.

Nintendo generally isn't that forward-thinking :P At least when it comes to online :P
Besides, the no-stylus option is essentially the same thing anyways. Just that the circle pad is slightly better to use than the buttons.

Probably the same as it does with the stick and buttons, right? I'm pretty sure you can do that. Just can't dual stick for some reason.
I caved and picked this up. So far, so fun! I can already feel my loot whore inner voice nagging me to play more. I will admit that the controls on land are uncomfortable but I just drop the Intensity down a bit (currently going through around 4.3 Intensity) to compensate for my lack of practice and it is working out quite well. Can't wait to dive into multiplayer. My 3DS code is in my sig if anyone wants a Kid Icarus friend! Let me know so I can add you back. I'm also on the 3DS site from the old 3DS thread so some of you may already have me added.
This game is really surprisingly fun. The first day of playing I struggled with the controls, but I'm beginning to get acclimated. Was finally able to do some damage in multiplayer, and figure out how to use items effectively.
Got some really cool weapon drops in multi: a really quick charging staff that drains strength and
A reaper claw that fires off little homing reapers when charged, and does a ton of damage (especially with a front charge, the reaper hits up to 3 times). Almost worth 300 though, so dying is rough on the team.
Add me if you want to play some multi, just let me know if you do.

And then Shepard appears to kill your Reaper.
Adding your FC. Currently trying to fuse together two weapons to carry over shot range, homing, speed, and paralysis. Getting bad Persona memories here.

The unfair advantage online is those who are really good with the stylus. You can just plain aim faster and better with it.
Yeah. There's no way dual analog would break the game balance at all, it's like saying using a gamepad on a PC shooter would be unfair for keyboard and mouse users.
Was anyone able to successfully add this game to their Club Nintendo account? I seem to be stuck on the second page and it won't let me retype in the code.

Continuing off of this onto a somewhat related tangent about Sin and Punishment 2:
I'm pretty sure the developers said they tried to balance that game around the old twin stick control model, and make it as challenging as possible, but once they implemented Wiimote pointer controls the game was suddenly not hard enough...
Alright and in this next scene all the animals have AIDS.
Brad whines about how weird the game is for being self referential and poking fun at game mechanics. Geez. God forbid we break the fourth wall.
They really need to do their research. They complain abut Pit not being able to do sustained flight and Metroids being the in the game. Both of those are also aspects of the original.

I don't think they whined too much, they seemed to like it anyway.
The only real problem is that they don't have any grasp of many of the concepts at play (using items/skills, what idols are, intensity doors, etc). A bit of a disservice to present the game that way. And the AR cards, but that whole bit was a mess anyway.
Also saying the game is easy when he "bumped up" the difficulty to 2.5. 8->

I just played multiplayer, and it was amazing. I got demolished by people with good Claws, but I held my own occasionally too.
As a comment: It's almost impossible to use 3D in multiplayer, but it can work pretty decently with the stand in singleplayer.

Earlier I was fighting an enemy where you have to knock their attacks back at them and I was wondering why I was having so much trouble than I did before
and then I realized I was playing with the 3D off. It's so much easier to gauge the distance of oncoming enemies and attacks with it on.
Edit: There are so many little things that aren't explained in this game. What does a green-highlighted weapon mean in the weapon list? What's the deal with the different colored eggs, do some just give you better probabilities of getting a new idol or are there different idols available in the different colors? And is getting a different color just random?

OK, I have figured out that Lightweight + rapid-fire Freezing weapons is the best combo. Just make a mad dash to a dude, freeze him in a few shots, then finish him off. I was able to win a game of Light vs Dark without my team even getting to the point where we got our Pit by harassing theirs.
IIRC red eggs are always items, green eggs are always weapons, blue eggs are always monsters. Or i got the colors wrong, whatever. It's pretty easy to figure out, especially when you see the percentage change with one normal egg vs. one colored egg - you're working on a different set of idols.
Cheap orbiters with a good added status effect on charge shot are my goto LvD weapons. Just follow around your teammates and gang up on them. Hopefully they have good close range weapons and you can just harass, but a good orbiter is even a decent companion to a bow or cannon user if you can concentrate fire and lock the enemy down.
I did finally lose last night for the first time. Even worse I was the angel and basically got "ringed out".
It sounds like to me you can just use that thumb thing that was used for Mario 64 DS instead of the platform. I'll try it when my game comes in. It is a little weird that they did not just go with that.

I wouldn't do that unless you have a screen protector. Every scratch I got on my original DS touch screen was from that thumb strap.

I tried it for a minute, not enough range of movement to work better than the stylus.

I don't think it's necessarily an issue of damage from being unprotected. Instead, it gets worn down from use, which creates flat spots with sharp edges. That's my impression from looking at the wear marks on mine, anyway.
Edit: But as far as thumb-playing goes, I like it. I've been using my thumb directly on the screen (with a screen protector, which makes for smoother motion) and it plays great. I play with the sensitivity all the way up anyway, though, which means I don't need a big range of motion.
