I've been looking through SBA.gov for a while but I'm not finding any real, concrete info on this.
What kind of permits or licenses might I need, in the state of Iowa, to sell cookies or confections over the internet, through my own website, under my own company? Does anybody know?
Your only concern in this regard would be the local municipal and state laws. National level laws aren't that hard to comply with, and they would only bother with you if it involved a big chunk of cash. Basically laws that you're worried about only apply to successful businesses, so go be successful. Save a 1/4 of profits for taxes and if you start actually seriously growing, save a chunk to go talk to a good lawyer.
Keep your business $$ separate, the IRS are assholes. You can just go to a bank and create a DBA account ie. Doing Business Ass DDV and any business money goes through there. When you have money left in there after buying inventory again, that's Hooker and Blow money.
And your particular municipality would be responsible for sending health inspectors by, but that would only be a concern after you're a successful business and have a real lawyer who can help you out. But check out their website.
