So no opinions on the MaxKeyboard Nighthawk? I still haven't ordered my new board, and I'm still waiting for Shine 3's to be in stock anywhere.
No idea on the Nighthawk, but there are plenty of Shine 3s available online (well, in the US anyway). Are you waiting to find one in a physical retailer?

No...I haven't seen any blue LED brown switch Shine 3's in stock anywhere? Can you give me a link?
I've got one. Other than the USB ports being a bit finicky (could be my PC, not sure) the thing works and types well. The fixed cord is a major improvement over a detachable cord keyboard. It's a bit stiff though at first though. As for the audio ports, I haven't tried those out because I use a USB soundcard + headset.
EDIT: I've got the white backlight with brown switches on mine.

That's... a pretty specific combination. There seem to be boards on Ducky's US retailer with either blue LEDs or brown switches, but not both.

Yeah blue LED + brown switch seems to be their money combo, and thus can't be found anywhere. I'll continue waiting I suppose.

My understanding is that the USB ports on the Nighthawk can be finicky because they aren't separately powered, like the ones on my Das. Or do you mean some other kind of finicky?
(Have a 7.1 card + Astro A40's, so yeah, I don't care about the audio ports either).

That's kind the point of offering options in the first place, but they seem to always under stock them all.

Browns are probably the most popular switch, and blue LEDs are probably the most popular backlight colour. So it makes sense that that combo would sell out first.
So reds have spoiled me. I was forced to do some work on someone else's workstation with a rubber dome keyboard and I ended up not hitting a third of the keys hard enough to register keypresses. I ended up having to slam the keys like a gorilla to type anything.

Glad the reds are working out for ya.
Since force is something you have to get used to anyways, might as well get used to the light touch IMO. Seems like less strain to me.

I'm partial to Browns and Blacks. Nice, meaty keys they are. My mom likes my SteelSeries 7G. I might find her one for Mother's Day (on top of something girlier of course.)
Got to try out the Logitech G710+ and Razer Blackwidow Ultimate. It was my first experience with blues and browns, and I'm glad I got to try them as I'm more confident in my decision to go blind with reds. I knew blues were supposed to make noise, but holy crap were they loud. I was annoying myself typing on the BW. Keys on the BW felt cheap and thin too. Typing on it made me appreciate the build quality of my DS3. The Logitech wasn't bad. Keycaps felt more durable than the BW, but not better than the DS3. I really didn't feel much difference between the browns and my reds, so if I ever typed on one blind I'm not sure I'd even notice.
I recently came into three keyboards, a RT8255CW+ (which is a tank), a Magitronic keybpard that doesn't have any sort of model name or number listed (just an FCC ID), and an IBM Model M2. I'm currently using the RT8255C+ because it's incredibly comfortable, and as a side bonus is the quietest of the three (which is good as I live in an apartment and am a night owl). The Magitronic has a little damage (a very small crack on one corner and a missing stand), but other than that they're in incredible shape. The plastic is the original offwhite with no yellowing or browning, there are no stains, the keys still have their original slightly rough surface texture, it's incredible. They basically sat in a guy's finished basement for the last 20 years.
I'm still getting used to the slightly different key placement compared to my old keyboard, but man the RT8255CW+ is civilization in comparison. I'm not sure how I went so long with the modern mushy consumer level keyboards that I've been using.

Not only is this a cheaper way to get a code keyboard, it's a guaranteed way - I know I had to lurk for a few months when more came in stock to make any purchases.
well if I wanted one with greens I could just get one from their site right now! Or at least, I could've last time I looked which was whenever
I couldn't quite bring myself to pull the trigger on the das 4. I thought about it and I realized I was essentially paying like a hundred extra dollars for the little media knob and just couldn't do it. So I think I'll just plug along with my aging quickfire xt a while longer

Could someone explain the popularity of clear switches to me? Or are they just as popular as any other switch type but happen to be rare?
I don't know if they're any more popular than the others, but they are much more rare. I personally prefer the "heavier" switches which require more pressure, like the black, clear, and green. Unfortunately blacks are the only ones that ever appear in a relatively mass produced keyboard, and that's still pretty uncommon.

they're basically just browns, but with more resistance. Cherry's clicky switches have a lot of variants (blue, green, red, etc), but if you don't like/want the click you're basically stuck with browns or the super-rare clears

I'm thinking this might be my next board for home. There's something about those grey and blue keycaps that is just super sexy.
(Please do not gift. My game bank is already full.)
gotta get one of those

There's a tenkeyless deal floating around too, but I scoff at tenkeyless keyboards.
