This game is pretty fun. Started a scientist, then realized that engineer sounded way closer to the way I wanted to play and replaced the science with engineer.

It's pretty good, though I'm only like, level 4 on the second character now.

All right. I paid for City of Heroes WAY longer than I should have, I can afford cryptic another glance for free.

Thanks for helping me decide, thread. We'll see how mad I get in the first week.

Marketing image is marketing image. The game is pretty fun once you stop flying a Miranda, and it is seriously Star Trek.

Look, the Miranda is barely adequate compared to the other three available staring ships*. And since I have two of them, I just can't sit through the Miranda ever again.

This game is pretty awesome. I just docked at the earth Star station and went to sleep. I need to read up on all the names because they're gibberish to me. But I love me some star trek. I mostly just need to know more about the mechanical jargon more than anything.

    Space combat is so satisfying

Things look to get really good starting in February if Cryptic can keep their word from a developer-diary report prior to the F2P launch.
The game goes to warp speed in February. We’re kicking off the month with a second anniversary event that includes the introduction of the new Odyssey class starship for Federation play and a brand new Klingon flagship for KDF play. Look for more information on these awesome ships later in the month.

Following rapidly on the heels of the event is the new Dominion featured episode story arc, with five new episodes coming your way through February and into March. March should also see the first expansion for the Duty Officer system and the next set of game features, with some more events and content following though April and May.

All told, it’s my goal to have something new in the game nearly every week starting with the second anniversary event and running through the end of April.

We’re already at work on the design of Season 6, which is being targeted for a June release. So what’s on the short list of features being worked on? We’re looking at doing some major upgrades on some key parts of the game. Foundry, PvP, and crafting are scheduled to get significant improvements, and there should also be some new features such as a fleet advancement system. We’ll share more details later as Season 6 comes into better focus.

This looks to be the new KDF ship they were talking about BTW.

    stonewshipmodels.jpg
    stonewkdfflagship12012.jpg

If you're wondering about the side of the KDF and the Odyssey next to it in general, the Odyssey's auxiliary ship (ala the Galaxy's and Sovereign's Captain's Yacht) is apparently docked in the back of the ship in that U-shaped spot you see on the model there and has been shown in another picture to be the length of a Defiant-class Escort.

In the beginning can you choose your Tac, Eng, Sci officer? Because I was given a Tactical officer I never saw a choice... Unless I did something wrong.

Yes, you should be able to choose your first officer. I just went with Tac myself because I was an Engineer and I wanted a little more DPS on my side.

This happened to me as well, but I figured I would go with it :)

The only thing I am slightly confused by is the ingame CStore thing says that I have purchased the Enterprise clothing stuff, but for some reason I can't access it or use it anywhere.. I have my NX ship just fine (jumped on it back in November or something) but not the costume parts. Am I missing something?

Like the space stuff though, very different.

Most of the stuff works fine for me but for some reason the belt from the alternate Enterprise show set refuses to work, it tells me to buy it but then wants to charge me 0, then doesn't let me "buy it".

So, how does endgame work? I did a couple of the stfs, and it looks like I'll need to do a lot of them (fighting borg, ugh) to get gear that's primarily good for fighting borg. I kind of want the cool assimilated gear, though, and I can't figure out how to get it. Is there anything else I could be doing with my time at 50?

  • Options
    OwenashiOwenashi Registered User regular
To get the Borg set, you need 15 Encrypted Data Chips (5 a piece).

You need to visit the tailor and you'll be able to apply your new costume pieces to your character.

so how much of a focus does this shit have on premium content

because i remember even when it was p2p there was tons of stuff in the premium store, like tons of race unlocks and other super cool shit

Pretty much everything you could do P2P you can do F2P, so I'd expect the C-store to have a ton of new stuff coming up.

Including the new Enterprise bridge pack/ship.

There is a lot of cool stuff in the C-Store, but (unlike some F2P games) there is a lot of cool stuff in the game freely, as well. Most of it is extras or cosmetic.

Like, you're not buying a Deep Space Science Vessel from the C-store, but rather, you're buying a new model that you can mix 'n match with the existing models in the game.

    ballin'

yeah i never felt like the c-store infringed on my ability to enjoy the game, probably the only time ever i've felt like premium content was legitimately just gravy i didn't need

i'm gonna redownload this shit tonight and cap out my science officer, because star trek is my favorite thing in the world and i can't afford two mmos, but i need something to do when i'm not raiding in rift

speaking of which, is there more then one raid, or still just that khitomer thing

I found the C-store stuff to be pretty avoidable.

But then again I got a ton of free C-store stuff back when it first came out on Steam before F2P

In general I'd say they do an admirable job of making it not ridiculous if you don't want to spend money.

space combat was less buggy but still, once you hit the difficulty cap and peak over it, they're all pretty routine. maybe they have more solo endgame stuff now

i never got past whatever the equivalent of like level 25 was

i can't even remember specifically what advantages science officers had. more shield stuff/scans/debuffs right

Solo endgame is pretty much the same as ever. They've tweaked some STFs and introduced a dungeon finder so it's easy to group up now.

Your duty officers do their own little missions while you do actual game content.

was there any equivalent to a healing class? engineer, right?

i dunno i always play healers/support classes so i went right for it

are science officers effective at cap, i remember people complaining they were farts for endgame/pvp a few months post launch

Science is actually the best PvP class

and science and Engi can do some healing

Engineers do shield heals and Science does hull/health heals

    generally speaking
