Have any of you read House of Leaves? I'm 20 pages in and I keep flipping through it ahead out of curiosity and I'm already terrified. I'm such a wuss when it comes to horror, I don't know if this is a good idea.
Keep reading, it's such a good book!
Not really a spoiler, but...
The scares aren't so much the 'blood and guts' kind, more the 'staring in to the black abyss that is the human condition' kind. I'm not sure if that makes it any better.
I'll probably stick with it out of morbid curiosity but I'm going to have to avoid reading it at night. (;
So every time I go to my local comic shop I notice this photography book that contains, in each spread, a full-page black and white portrait of a cartoonist in his studio, and a small paragraph describing who they are and what they do.

I got 120 pages in and quit because I was too bored by it to continue. <shrug>
I recently got new glasses, my old ones where messed. up. BAD!
The eye doctor even explained to me that my good eye has been straining and I also have a small degree of color-blindness. Dark reds are harder for me to work with apparently.
I wonder if this has effected my art in the past?
probably. i am also red-green color blind and it took me ages to even know that.
For instance, I always thought purple was just like, a slightly darker shade of blue which could really. But if you're doing digital paint, the effect is probably lessened since you can easily see how much red is there in the color. Actually, I guess as long as you start mixing the colors yourself, you're good. But if you use predefined colors without paying attention it could be a problem.

My attention span kept me from finishing it, but it's sooooo gooooooood.
Stories about someone going batshit crazy terrify me more than any gore does. I keep skipping ahead to read parts here and there where stuff really starts to get insane and I'm worrying about finishing it and going crazy myself. But the thought of that even being possible makes me even more interested in reading it. It's a vicious cycle!
Link has been multiple people throughout the Zelda timeline. All presumably reincarnated from the same original hero, but they may be just individuals bound by some common thread. Their character presentation has always been somewhere between Peter Pan (Wind Waker) and Aragorn (Zelda, TAOL, and ALTTP). How come Link has never been a girl? That would rule.
i guess i automatically assign traditional gender roles to my video games, but for simplicity's (and consistencies) sake id rather see a legend of link where prince link is held captive and the daring zelda must rescue him.
but trying to keep continuities straight in the zelda universe hasnt really seemed to be of upmost importance to the developers so, i would definitely play a zelda game where link is a girl.
edit: what is nintendos policy about a female link saving a female zelda? i know people were shitting bricks when EA/BW announced they would add same sex romance options to SW:TOR

Zelda got to be badass as Shiek.(i think that's how you spell it, but I am too lazy to confirm)
edit: Japan is way more cool about sexuality. There are loads of gay characters in anime (yes, even those aimed at children). James from Pokemon, for instance, is one such character. Guess what got edited out when the show came to america lol
So I could see Nintendo making a game where there is a female character saving another female character (though I have a feeling it would likely be a male character saving a male character just because game devs are afraid to alienate their core demo of male teens ) but I don't think it would be Zelda. That game has a hard enough time breaking gameplay conventions... no way would it get out of its story conventions unless they do a huge revamp.

Man, didn't you pay attention to Metal Gear Solid 2? The unwashed video gamer masses couldn't even handle changing the main character to a guy who looked like a girl.

Link isn't exactly a man's man though. You could make him a girl and you'd hardly even have to change the voice acting.

Well Link never speaks anyway, so...yeah?
Also any mature person probably wouldn't have a problem with changing the gender, but video game companies generally don't stay in business by underestimating the infantile pettiness of their audience.

Considering how many gamers lost their collective minds at the release of Wind Waker, which was basically every Zelda game made so far, but more cartoon-y, it might be a hard sell for them to make that big a change in one of 2-3 franchises keeping Nintendo in gold-plated Wiis.

Well tell Link to suck it up and stop making such a racket.
See, this is why producers like to have me on their team. Because they'll be like, "Welp, looks like we're going to have to hire a voice actress to come in and do all these noises", and I'll be like, "Hey how about I go record a clip of me saying, 'Hey Link, shut the fuck up', have a character say that right in the beginning, and BAM you've just saved a bunch of money."
The closest thing to a Zelda game with a female protagonist is Okami. Amaterasu is a female and the game plays a lot like a Zelda game, with the fun of paintbrush techniques (:

Well, that gives the player some feed back to what is going on. What needed to be cut is Navi's HEY! LISTEN!
Play it! Actually maybe don't. Because it's totally addictive (I've been playing my save file now for about 51 hours and I'm still not done with the game).

That Skylanders game is evil and brilliant at the same time. I'm horrified and filled with admiration for whoever came up with the idea.
In other news: the first art thief I reported to deviantArt, the one who was actually trying to take credit for other people's work, has had his account deactivated.

Actually all of the adult Links have been pretty damn manly. Wrestling goats and Gorons, lifting big, heavy objects, wading through oceans of gore, stuff like that. They also had distinctly masculine voices, so...
You're just saying that because your own concepts of virility are tied up with giant robots and Link sounds like Guy Shishio.
(Sheik sounded almost as masculine as adult link. Rewinding a bit I actually, personally, think Zelda's tougher as Tetra than Sheik. Sheik is a lie and Tetra is a pirate.)
Ooof. I went out for a drink or two last night with some friends from work (and here! Nightdragon was there)
I don't drink that much any more so apparently my tolerance has fallen such that three beers got me kind of smashed. To be fair, two of those beers were 10% alc.
But still it was kind of SURPRISE YOU'RE DRUNK. I'm more of a drink socially and don't get more than a bit tipsy kind of guy
Also, Skylanders makes me sad. Its not a bad concept, and its a dastardly brilliant way to sell toys. But the actual figures and character designs are so awful.
I didn't mind when they changed Snake for Raiden in Metal Gear Solid 2. I thought it was kinda fun. But, the Metal Gear I'm waiting for is just a couple of years before the Shadow Mosses incident. In the end you realize you were playing as Liquid Snake all along.
YAY dmac that took long enough, but it's good to know they don't turn a blind eye to that kind of thing.
MD, I haven't even finished Skyward Sword, and I got it the day it came out. I lost interest. I don't know if I'll ever finish it. It makes me sad because I love me some Zelda, but the game is just so goddamn repetitive.
My friends and I had a helluva time trying a demo of SkywardS at Target. I was sort of turned off by some of the controls. I'm also not into motion games unless they involve dancing.
But the fact it's a Zelda title is what really makes me want to get it.

At least the 2/3 I read of it.
I really liked the opening, but it lost me with the newspaper clippings.

goddamn it it would happen mid-semester

While I'm not in any hurry to deny that I hope you're not implying that Guy Shishio is anything but a badass.
