I think the essence behind it (being confident, approachable etc) is sound.

This is not exclusive to the PUA bullshit. This is just being a nice person who knows he is a person worth caring about.
The words and terms and general attitude is kinda silly.

It's SO much worse than words/terms/attitude. I've read some of that stuff and I find it absolutely disgusting.

and okay maybe "dumb girls" is a bit harsh

"girls with ISSUES" (emphasis ++) is perhaps more accurate

It's also a form of bullying. You are practically telling people how worthless they are.

Yeah PUA doesn't sell confidence as self-confidence, not really. It sells confidence as you putting down other people and making them feel like shit (GIRLS) to make yourSELF seem more impressive.

    :slowclap:

I just find the whole exercise to be completely and utterly offensive, reprehensible, and RUDE.

Yeah I think the point of the thing is that part of the reason PUA techniques work is because they're performed with a shitload of confidence.

But the thing is, that confidence is a big part of what makes it so effective. If you walk up to somebody and start talking to them without mumbling or staring at your feet and with a smile and good eye contact, it's human nature to want to engage with that person.

From there you can choose to employ the bullshit emotional manipulation of a PUA or you can have an honest, open conversation. You'd find that both would solicit a positive response.

yeah but then there's the emotional manipulation / blackmail that comes with it, and thats extremely fucked up.

Honestly some of the shit that PUA's will do to get laid stop just short of outright date rape.

Really I thought it was a guide to be confident with girls.

Here is the best guide to being confident with girls:
    1. treat them like people first, girls second - i.e., just have a conversation with them like they are normal people
    2. remember that you're a good and interesting dude in your own right who is able to have an interesting conversation with people (not just girls)

The specific "how-to" of it is down to the individual to figure out. Once someone starts spouting a "one size fits all" way of "picking up girls," it's bullshit because all girls are individuals with their own brains/personality/preferences and, perhaps more importantly in your case, all BOYS are individuals with their own brains/personality/preferences.

If you act like an arsehole, you will also act like you have self confidence.

PUA teaches you to act like a arsehole.

It's the McDonalds of dating. Sure you get fed, but it's really really shitty.

There are some good points and behaviours outlined in the PUA literature, but nothing that isn't covered elsewhere in other more reputable sources. You'd get as much or milage out of being a decent human being who can communicate with other by reading How to Win Friends and Influence People, which isn't just about talking to girls, but rather also addresses just relating to people in general.

Once you're in a relationship, there's all sorts of books on how to treat your lady (or gent) special, ranging from entire boookshelves to the sealed section of Cosmo.

Those things are important, and are (sometimes) addressed in PUA habits, but once you take those particular things away from the PUA community, all that's really left is meaningless and shallow scoreboarding and numbers bragging.

Well, I think the word "attitude" sums it up pretty concisely. The PUA attitude is bad.

It's not that big a deal, guys. It's just that people are going to want to know where the horse got it from, and whether it's passed it on to other horses.

Like, my sister-in-law found her horse dead this morning

she thought it might be a tick, so she went hunting around the body

she had a lot of contact

and if she caught hendra, there's a sixty percent chance that she'll die from it.

So my brother is with my grandmother at rehab at the moment and she knows who Ben is (my brother) and who I am.
But she doesn't know that my brother is Ben, she just thinks he knows him. So he is there talking to her about himself in the third person.
    Tragic but humourous.
Apparently she likes Ben though, so at least she likes her grandchildren.

Yeah I bet she hates that Tim.
To be fair to her, her vision is also fucked so it would be making it super hard to know what the hell is going on. Hardcore macular degeneration.

Really hoping I get to be like my paternal grandfather in old age. 90 years old, still driving, still doing gardening, still being a crazy bigot.

Condolences Tim, hopefully she makes a good recovery.

Both my grandfathers have had strokes, so if it's a genetic thing I could be in trouble a few years down the track.
