Also the trailer Scottsman posted is way better than the one shown at E3. I don't know why they didn't show this one. It at least has some gameplay footage.
I love how if you went in totally blind, you might think that was Marcus.
That's exactly what I thought it was. If its a prequel, where exactly does this fit in with Gears of War canon? I would think there would've been an aside in one of the previous games, like, "Hey, Cole, this reminds me of that time I made a difficult choice and we went to prison. Remember?" "YEAH I DO, SHEEEEIT, WOO, I'M THE COLE TRAIN" or something like that.

The dates I keep hearing don't really mesh up with where they should be, but it basically takes place within a few years of E-Day. The basic plot is
The COG are getting their asses kicked because they're fighting the Locust with Pendulum Wars tactics. Baird, being the general smart guy that he is, thinks he has a better way of fighting, and defies orders to try it out.
Also, yes, it would have been FANTASTIC to see this trailer without having known anything yet. "Oh so this is when Marcus got bust..whoa it's Baird!
EDIT: Also it sounds like a lot of this stuff is going to get "classified" within the Gears universe so that could explain why Baird never mentioned it. These events are probably what got Baird busted down to private for over a decade, which is something he hasn't been terribly forthright with.
I'll have to check, but I think making Baird a Lieutenant shortly after E-Day is another damn continuity error.
Checking Coalitions End, it doesn't mention Baird's rank, but it does mention that he hadn't fought grubs up until about a month after E-Day, so it's kinda weird he went from probably Private to Lieutenant in a few short weeks.
EDIT: Though I don't know much about military ranks, Lieutenant looks to be on a separate tract from the non-officers.. or something. Like I said, I dunno.
EDIT2: Shit, someone just pointed out a huge continuity error.
Lancers with chainsaw bayonets didn't show up until YEARS after the hammer of dawn attack.

Scott... You're gonna give yourself an anyurism. Just go with it.
Gears3's hardcore was dissapointingly easy (mostly due to the fact that prevoisly, in hardcore, when you went down, you just die. But in Gears 3, you went DBNO, so the AI could pick you up. Made things WAAAAY easy. I only died a handful of times in that entire campaign.
In a recent podcast, Rod Fergusson mentions that they set the game when they did instead of during the pendulum wars or during e-day because otherwise it wouldn't be Gears of War:
-The felt they needed Chainsaw Lancers, which weren't around during e-day (or for the next 8 years, but let's ignore that for now)
-The felt fighting human enemies was totally not Gears of War.
Which makes me wonder, if the Locust are so integral to the Gears of War experience
Why the hell kill them all off with a magic win-button? :P
yeah, they may have shot themselves in the foot if they seriously never plan to do the pendulum wars as a game. i thought that sounded like an interesting story to tell, but from the sounds of it we'll be fighting locusts for some time...
Of course, I complain about this but really, I liked how Gears of War 3 didn't pull any bullshit last second cop-outs. It ended. While there were stories I think could have been told had the game not ended so definitively, I can at least admire the fact that it ended, and we will quite possibly never get a Gears of War 4.
anybody with gears 3 dlc interested in getting some achievements? i was thinking of the 5 marauders/5 carmines/kill lambent berserker ones. up for helping with others too.
Ugh, I really don't want to update this thread with current information. Damn you epic, I was supposed to have another year before you started talking about the next game!
Anywho, Judgment is apparently coming March 2013, which given what happened with Gears3, leads me to believe that Microsoft either has a huge title for Fall 2013, or they're releasing a new console then.
Also, the last comic came out and it was.. kinda meh.
It completely fails to give any backstory to the Locust Queen, dispite featuring her prominantly. It turns the Locust into every bit of the stupid mook race they appeared to be, to the point where it's pretty much stated by Adam Fenix that they're too stupid to properly organize themselves without the Queen. Bleh.
The story is basically how the Locust found out about Azura and how they invaded. Nothing groundbreaking, other than a pair of secondary characters, one of whom was Fenix's assistant, may have survived the Azura massacre.
Between Epic not really giving a shit about defining the Locust as anything but "really super bad monsters who do the bad things of badness and really just shoot these guys and not think about it, kthx," the ending to Gears3 and just how fast the turnaround between Gears3 and Judgment was... I'm kinda losing my gusto for this franchise as a whole. The Gears3 DLC shenanigans didn't help either.

If you see me on, I'm always up for attempting these, although I think we need a group rather than an ad-hoc promise.

Same here.
I plan to do some of these off-line but that requires one more of my friends buying the DLC.
So I'm wonder if there's something bad going on at Epic.
First, Rod Fergusson, who was the Senior Producer of Gears of War 2 and was recently promoted to Director of Production in September of last year, left Epic a few days ago to join Irrational Games to work on Bioshock Infinite.
Then Adrian Chmielarz, Andrzej Poznanski and Michal Kosieradzki of People Can Fly, who are working on Gears of War: Judgment, all recently left.
Kind makes me worry if all these big major people involved with the Gears franchise are leaving.
...Meh, I can't say I've ever seen Free-For-All to be that popular in any MP game mode.
From my experience Free-For-All is usually the game type that people who can't hang in TDM or Objective matches go to.
That being said I mean it isn't like its inclusion takes away from what's already there so whatever I guess.
I really hope that Gears FFA doesn't become popular. But it's funny how over time I've grown less and less interested in the DM gametype in general vs objective, so idk...
as long as the SP and Co-Op portions remain strong, I'll buy.

Honestly, Gears is one of the few, if only game, I play just TDM on in multi.
Granted, 90% of the time against/with bots and on Hardcore I'm still up on the top by a large margin, but it's still fun.

Guess it makes sense. Who else would think to combine a chainsaw and assault rifle?

Plus the franchise is pretty well established in how the gameplay works so I think it will remain a solid game even with some key personnel leaving.
