Nope, still pulled it off. He waited there for me to save him. Thanks Magnus! I'm at the final fort now. Never saw Remus' event, but maybe it's later?

Goddammit, what did I just screw myself out of because I went the "right" way without realizing it?
I was supposed to head to Aida Bridge to see Magnus and someone else apparently, but I went back to the villa and saw the scene about the memory gem. Now there was no scene at the crossroad leading back to the bridge path that I guess was supposed to be there with Magnus, and there was no mission with two trolls or something. Did this just screw me out of a bunch of stuff like getting Magnus or something? Or is it supposed to be somewhere else? Because I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be that screen.

Like what the fuck, I didn't think heading back to the villa would do anything.

Nope, it's scripted when it happens.

Man, what? Fuck that guide on gamefaqs then, it says you do it after the gem mission but before heading to the fort. I got all worked up for nothing, thinking I'd been all super awesome changing fates and shit and then I messed up with something super lame.

That's what you get for using a FAQ!

(You'll miss something no matter what, way too much is going on at once.)

The irony(?)/coincidence(?) of it is I only looked at the FAQ because I tried going to the place and nothing was happening, but I thought surely they wouldn't mention it if it's pointless and that's when I read about the mission and how I wasn't getting it. I also read about how apparently I was supposed to be psychic and know to give some papers to a certain person before they actually mention needing them. I guess it changes a line of dialogue when you find out they can take them.

I'm at the final dungeon now, hoping it'll be an actual challenge. Shy of an escort mission, I've broken the game wide open.

I think I somehow missed getting a character ending. Isn't there some really stupid obscure item you need? Nothing happened with anyone on the final(?) furlough.

I know there's something with a Sunset Stone and Memento Branch that you can only get one in any playthrough. Would that have anything to do with it? I'm pretty sure the stone is for Sydney unless they completely change what it means once you get it, but I know nothing about the branch. Nobody has even mentioned it in my run yet.

Edit: Shit, just remembered I forgot to see the scene where Frayne talks about her diary and gets her final overlimit skill on the last furlough I did. That won't go away by next furlough will it? I want that skill. I just forgot in-between doing the furlough so many times to make sure I saw scenes.

Oh my god, the final boss is just so many layers of BS.

    I don't even.

    -Ridiculously high AGI
-AOE skill that kills everyone in range, placed at random, you have like three seconds to run
-Dizzying attack skill that follows it
    -Repeatedly spawns bombs
    -Counter.

    Yeesh.

Okay, here's how endings work(thanks RPGFan), no spoilers.
when you choose the location (must be your town) and go to sleep it will have an event at night in your room where your fairy will say something like "can you think of anyone you'd like to spend your last moments with?" and you will be able to walk out of your room and knock on the door of the character you want to get the ending with. if it says they are sleeping you have not fullfilled the requirements for that character's ending. if they answer the door that means you can get their ending

Can anyone reccomend me a place to find this online that ships internationally? My usual place to import, play-asia, seems to have ran out of copies, and amazon refuses to ship it to Sweden.

Great. The game locked up after I beat the 4v4 arena before I got a chance to save.

I enjoy the game, but yeah, it can be ultra tough.

I didn't even TOUCH the arena. Not until I get triple strike and (whatever gem makes range hit everywhere and skip obstacles). So broken.

The 1v1 arena is pathetic, because you can just cheese it with invisibility. As long as it's up no enemy will ever see you and you'll only take damage from counters. You probably should have done that one so you could get a Xozar Dragon Ring early.

I'm redoing the final battles now. I never did kill the final boss' last form, because yeeesh.
(The final furlough is before them, went back to get Erika's ending path. No one else opened their doors. :( )

I also brought Meline instead of Tricia. Her magic isn't as godlike, but it's solid, and she also does great range damage.

Ending "requirement" question and a furlough event question.
Okay so the character endings and such. Is it like older games where the choice at the end is what locks you into that ending, or do some earlier events lock you into a specific ending? Can you have all possibilities open and you just choose one, or can you only have so many because some lock each other out?

As for the event, am I missing something with Magnus? I told him about the bait plan and then he ran off and my familiar said I'm supposed to help him. I tried looking for him again that day and the next day in Marquelia but I couldn't find him. I then stopped because I made some wrong choices about who to spend time with, but where was I supposed to go? Was I supposed to do anything? Was I supposed to go to my town again?

He's at the pier in Marquelia, and he'll wait forever!

As for the endings, on the final furlough, the fairy asks in the middle of the night 'if you want to be with anyone'.

Then go to their room. If you maxed their relationship and completed the required quest(saving Eliza's father, for instance), you're golden.

I'm pretty sure by saving before that night, you can load and get any ending you like if you met the requirements.

Finally finished. Second form was a joke now that I went in ready.

Surprisingly good ending, more than I expected anyway.

What little VA the game had was damn good. Shame this couldn't have had a full VA budget.

So overall, compared to II & III:

    Gameplay:
    *****
Growlanser at its finest, no question. Challenging, varied, rewarding.

    Story:
    ****-
It started out great, then flounded a lot near the end.
Would've been better off focusing on angels or the political intrigue, not trying to balance them. Both had great elements weighed down by the other.
(The small backstory on the angel civilization could've carried a whole game.)

I still prefer II & III, but don't get me wrong, IV is still great.

    Music:
    **---
(Very bland, only a couple tracks stood out)

    Presentation:
    ****-
Great CGs and art design, love some of the characters(the Royal Guards, the twins, Vester); makes up for the bad ones(Eliza, Trisha, etc.).

Really wish I'd unlocked more CGs, they all looked sharp.

    Localization:
    *****
Can't complain at all, the writing was great, and Cley's 'jerk' dialogue is AMAZING.
(Wow, that's a lot of translators and editors.)

I hope this isn't the last we see of Growlanser, but if so, it went out with a bang.

It also had my favorite final boss fight yet. Appropriate and looked really imposing, too.
    It had a great sprite.

Watching this after finishing the game is bittersweet as heck. Shame they didn't include it with the PSP version. It's pretty much the game's epilogue.

Note that there are three different ending paths that you can take. I don't just mean endings, I mean three nearly full on storyline divergences.

Yep, missed that one scene so an ending is out. It's really dumb how easy it is to miss. It shouldn't be missable at all, because the story scene that gets rid of it makes you go to the exact screen the mission happens on on your way to the fort.
It's Silverneil. I can't get her ending because I didn't see the scene with Magnus dressed up as a girl or something, I don't know what the scene was. It was the one at the intersection to the bridge though. That is apparently required to get her ending, because she didn't show up outside the castle after the new government talk. This means I can't do the scenes on furlough involving her, such as the arena battle, which I'm sure is required for her ending. Can I get her ending on other paths, or is she locked out on the Dulkheim and other route?

Welp, got my M2 amulet and then made 8 more. Tried an exhibition match and they could not even touch Crevanille because he guarded every single attack. Broken as hell.

Another broken tactic I've heard of using thorned sword(double damage, 20% kickback) with vampire, and Cley's basically a killing machine.

That sounds pretty good. I guess as long as you don't manage to do 5000 damage in one turn the recoil wouldn't kill you at full health.

cj iwakuracj iwakura The Rhythm Regent Bears The Name FreedomRegistered User regular
I used Thorned Sword without Vampire, and just kept healing Cley. He was doing around 700-800 damage a turn with double strike.

Two Hien questions (Late game as hell)
First, is he just supposed to just say something about his head hurting when you attack the boss that you need to bring him for? He said something about memories, but it was just one line and that was it. He got more hits but he never said anything else. On my furloughs all I could ever get him to talk about was a woman he couldn't remember. He wouldn't say anything else, no matter where I talked to him.

Second, how the fuck are you supposed to know to bring Hien for that battle? Seriously, there is no indication. You would think it has something to do with the girl in his memories he keeps talking about, but no. No that means nothing to getting his memories back, he just has to hit a giant space beast with a president inside it.

Edit: I'm also imagining I'm screwed on something for Frayne, because this is the last furlough coming up but because of that one vacation I didn't talk to her I didn't progress her art thing enough, so now there won't be anything for that Sylm creature she sketched. Is that required for her ending, or is it for something else? I figured it might be for her best armor.

Edit 2: Figured it out, it was a suspicion I had but I always forgot about it and now the only save I have where I can do it is from hours ago and I'd have to do all the arena stuff again. No thank you, sorry Hien. I'll get your ending next time when I work through a second time. I just want to finish this game at this point.
You have to rest at the prison with Hien in your team, but then you ALSO need to talk to him on furlough. I just do not want to do all the arena stuff again, so I'll save him for next time. If I only needed to rest at the prison I'd have been fine.
