ever since I moved back on campus, I've been unable to connect to the Internet - it always shows the network as Unidentified Network. I have a light where my Ethernet wire is plugged in, and I have an ip address, so it isn't like I have nothing. I've tried all the basic stuff, from rebooting to disable/enabling my network adapter to uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. From what I found googling there are a bunch of ways this can happen, and I've tried a couple, like disabling apple's bonjour service, but so far nothing.
I had Internet at home earlier the day i moved in, and also from the same port a month earlier before I went home for winter break. I've also tried other Ethernet cables. Haven't tried another computer in the same port but I can get a roommate to do that tonight.
It's an nvidia nforce network adapter and is part of my motherboard. If there is any info you'd find useful feel free to ask.
You mean that little popup asking you to pick home/work/public network on windows 7? That's expected, it thinks you're plugging into a network for the first time (and if you move back and forth with ethernet this is bound to happen a lot to you). Select what type it is. For school I'd pick public.
If that's not what's happening let me know. Most non-domain networks show up as "unidentified."
not a doctor, not a lawyer, examples I use may not be fully researched so don't take out of context plz, don't @ me
got it. it had something to do with needing to register my computer (which i had always been able to do on campus, never had to do it before i got there) but being unable to get to the computer registering page. i had called the tech people and asked them SEVERAL times to manually register me, and they kept assuring me it would be done the next day, and the next day, but it never happened.
finally to fix it i connected my computer to my roommate's laptop which had working internet directly and just piggybacked off his and registered.
