Wii Online Problems

So shock of all shocks, I managed to find a Wii today (only one at the store; snagged it as a Target employee was putting it into the display case). Purchased it, brought it home, tried to get the online features to work and well, no luck. Messed around with my router settings for quite some time and then I found a little page on Nintendo's site that said that the Actiontec GT704-WG router has compatibility problems with the Wii. Well, I'm using an Actiontec GT701-WG router so I imagine that's the problem.

Anyway, my question is this: would buying a DS/Wii Wifi USB Adapter and hooking that up to my computer be likely to fix my Wii Connectivity problem or do I need to replace the router?

I can't help regarding the router, but the USB adapter definitely works. Only thing you really need is Windows XP and to have it in range.

Also if you have a Mac you can use internet sharing with Airport to give your DS/Wii internet access.

I'm not sure what settings you messed with, but if you set your router to channel 11 it tends to work better with the Wii, at least that's what I did with mine to get it to work (and I've heard similar reports)

But failing that, yes, the USB adapter WILL work, since it doesn't really rely on the router at all.

Unless you get a USB adapter like mine which works fine for the first month and now refuses to allow any sort of internet connection through.

Replace the router. I use to have an Actiontec that stubbornly refused to allow any sort of connection to reach the DS. Picked up a Belkin for £30 and haven't had a single problem. Failing that, the USB works pretty well too.
