Given Palpatine's usual operating methods, the very last thing I see him doing is disclosing his involvement with the Separatist Command Council. Or allowing that involvement to come to light by any other party.
Especially at the beginning of the Dark Times. When his control of the Senate and the Empire government is conceivably at its weakest.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm pretty sure that almost nobody knows this in the galaxy at large. I'd think that Sidious's involvement in the Clone Wars was a very tightly kept secret, and the fact that Sidious = Palpie is an even better kept secret. Hell, even the fact that Vader and the Emperor are even Sith would be knowledge worth killing to protect.
Fair enough...too be honest I never really thought of that. I'll change it.
Needless to say, Grievous became the source of a hatred that burned, and continued burning even long after Grievous' death. At first the empire was the focus of Jaa's hatred, but later, finding out that Palpatine and Darth Sidious were two sides to the same coin, his hate was directed towards the Sith, and its dark emperor. General Grievous was just a pawn in a much larger game, and Jaa's family was caught in the middle of it. Dorin is now the only thing Jaa loves, and yet he cannot return, for the pain of his loss is too great.

I don't think most people know that Palpatine is a sith. They probably know Vader is.
In fact, I doubt most people even knew there was a Darth Sidious.
1. What does your character Love? With a capital L. Even the most reviled, evil despot has something, somewhere they care about a great deal, and would give of themselves to protect - perhaps even sacrificing their life to protect and care for. This could be a friend, family member, or lover. Perhaps a homeworld, a group of people, or a village that once sheltered you. Maybe you have a soft-spot for kittens.
As a Mon Calamari she is deeply devoted to her homeworld and the creatures that inhabit it. Even the Quarrens for all of their bluster and bile hold a special place in her heart. Dac has always been a source of comfort and a place where she could seek refuge in her times of need.
Even though she was not chose to become a padawan Zevoto has always been devoted to the Jedi Order with all of her heart. She believes in the principles upon which it was founded and is willing to do almost aything to protect what precious little remains of it.
2. What does your character Hate? With a capital H. Even the most benevolent and well-meaning character has something, somewhere they hate, would go out of their way to harm, or would irrationaly distrust. This could be an individual in the character's past, or a group of people. Even a planet. Perhaps the character has a prejudice against Twi'leks, or has sworn to destroy the bounty hunter clan that destroyed his village as a child.
During the Clone Wars Zevoto saved countless clones who had been injured while serving the Republic. Though she never cared for battle herself Zevoto hoped that the soldiers she saved would allow the Republic to emerge from the war victorious. In the end they destroyed almost everythig she had ever cared for and they became a symbol of everything she fought against for so may years. Stormtroopers erage the normally calm Mon Calamari woman on sight.
3. Why is your character willingly (and eagerly) serving on the ship? Why is your character an active participant and willing to work with the rest of the party? Are they devoted to a cause? Do they have a simple love of credits? Are they devoted to stamping out a threat?
She is a social person who feels a resposibility to use her skills to dos as much good as possible. While most Jedi have gone into hiding or abandoned the principles of the order to belnd in Zevoto refuses to do either. She is devoted to the defeat of the Empire ad the restoration of the Jedi.
4. How does your character feel about the empire? Has it done anything to him/her personally, above and beyond the standard oppression inherent in the system? Are there any circumstances where he/she would work with an imperial representative?
As a member of Jedi Order and a citizen of the Galactic Republic Zevoto dislikes everything that the new order stands for. She believes in freedom and peace. In her eyes the Empire is corrupt a engine of war and destruction with no purpose beyond bringing the galaxy under the control of a power mad tyrant.
Zevoto recognizes that not every servant of the Empire is evil or unworthy of being offered her trust under the right circumstances. If an individual proved to have good intentions she would judge them by their actions rather than their uniform.

Another pastel experiment. I should be going much slower on these, but it's something. I might go back and touch it up later, as I already see errors, but eh.
Ok, before we get this thing-a-rolling, got a couple questions for the players.
Shamelessly stealing this idea and the gist of the questions from Arcanis.

3. Why is your character willingly (and eagerly) serving on the ship? Why is your character an active participant and willing to work with the rest of the party? Are they devoted to a cause? Do they have a simple love of credits? Are they devoted to stamping out a threat?
4. How does your character feel about the empire? Has it done anything to him/her personally, above and beyond the standard oppression inherent in the system? Are there any circumstances where he/she would work with an imperial representative?
Love:
Ben loves his familial heritage. While he knew very little of his family while an active jedi, his time reconnecting with them before being driven away again led to him believing the Jedi Order had it wrong with their stance on attachments. For all he knows, they were all lost when the fought back against the Imperial Troops who came looking for him...but he has no way of knowing for sure.
Hates:
Ben hates the Sith and the Dark Side. Yeah it's a bit nebulous, but he blames them for everything that has happened to the himself and the galaxy as a whole. He knows, like many Jedi, that there was a mysterious Sith they were trying to catch during the Clone Wars. And now the ominous Darth Vader hunts down jedi and anyone else who would stand up against him or his Empire. Ben's hatred for them has caused him to slowly slip into darkness as he resorts to any means to defeat his enemies. Perhaps he even hates himself a little since he sees that darkness in himself?
Why on Ship:
Ben serves on the ship because they are the only ones he still trusts. He is loyal to them because he knows in the end they are all good people who would stick their necks out for each other. He hopes they can make some small difference in the lives of those who are the most hurt by the Empire's actions. The fact that they find themselves in sticky situations doesn't hurt either, since Ben loves to lose himself in a fight.
Why hates the Empire:
Ben hates the Empire...almost fanatically. He would never trust an agent of the Empire, and would be the first to draw his weapon at the slightest provocation. He blames the Emperor and Vader for the death of everything he has known, and considers anyone who works for their government to be traitors and cowards. Most of the time he feels powerless to make a difference in the galaxy.

Even the most reviled, evil despot has something, somewhere they care about a great deal, and would give of themselves to protect - perhaps even sacrificing their life to protect and care for. Rachi loves history. She was, after all, a Jedi assigned to the Exploration Corps despite her not-insignificant skills as a warrior. Above that, though, she will protect innocent lives at all costs. She also has a deep love and respect for her former master Willem Tross, whose fate is unknown. As of Order 66 she has not sensed his presence in the Force.
Though she would never admit it aloud, Rachi hates CC-1460 "Razor". Formerly the Clone commander escorting her on her dig on Tython, his betrayal came as an absolute shock as she had considered him one of her closest friends.
3. Why is your character willingly (and eagerly) serving on the ship? Why is your character an active participant and willing to work with the rest of the party? Are they devoted to a cause? Do they have a simple love of credits? Are they devoted to stamping out a threat?
Simple survival. Though the Jedi Order is gone, Rachi Sitra is still a Jedi Knight. She despises serving as part of what she sees as cold mercenary work, but she also realizes that a sword needs a hand to wield it. She hopes soon she will be able to steer the Captain towards joining with the Rebellion so her struggles can have meaning again.
4. How does your character feel about the empire? Has it done anything to him/her personally, above and beyond the standard oppression inherent in the system? Are there any circumstances where he/she would work with an imperial representative?
The atrocities the burgeoning Empire has committed on Rachi's list go from top to bottom - they support and promote slavery on Ryloth, they all but murdered the Jedi in cold blood, and they have forced oppression and tyranny on the galaxy in the name of security and order. That being said, Rachi is not a child; when it comes down to it, those on the side of the enemy are people too. She has fought against heroes and served alongside villains...
I think I'm going to go with knowing Ben, since we talked about it in the room that one day. But it's up to him; I think it would be cooler to know as few other players as possible at this point.

Just so everybody's on the same page, I started the game with the party split into smaller groups because I had no good ideas as to start it with all of you already together. So I did the next best thing and split up into subgroups.
and Rachi and Zevoto paling around the outer rim pregame isn't meant to suggest anything about their relationship either. Just that the two of them meat up after Order 66 and decided to travel together. Possibly because either or both of them wanted company and the goals of the two didn't work against one another.
I'd also really love it if Rach or Zevoto knew one of the other 4. Especially since you two seem ready and willing to jump into the cantina fracas.
Anyway, my thoughts on the game start. Gotta go to work now. (since I just hit 'post thread' last night and then bolted for sleep)

I am a little new to pbp rpgs, do all the same rules from a table top rpg apply. For instance, each player roles an initiative check. Then each character go's in order performing their actions. I have already shot at the thugs, for example, now I have to wait for them to take their turns, unless I make a free action to say something or make a facial expression and what not...right? I realize its going to be different, but from what I have seen so far it just seems a lot less structured then how a table top game would go.
Normally, a combat encounter is formally started and initiative checks are all rolled then, with each player and the gm posting as their turn in combat comes around.
I didn't call for initiative for this one because it isn't that formal.
Oh, Heir. Ben earns a DSP for giving into his passions while ending a life.
May also keep the fluff and/or talking to a reasonable length during combat. Just because talking is a free action doesn't mean that you could read War and Peace aloud during a round of combat.
Doing fine right now, just something to keep in mind.
Now this next bit is excellent advice for anybody in a pbp game. It's ripped straight from The Man himself, HorseShoe. It's the best description of the Star Wars cinematic style and how pbp format enhances that kind of descriptive magic.
A final note to the players (and observers!): remember that description is not always tied to mechanics. Star Wars is a fantastic space movie setting. Be cinematic! Losing hp to a blaster attack doesn't mean "you got shot"... in all likelihood, it's really only the last couple of hits that take you to zero that are actually "hits" (in game terms, think of all the hp Qui-Gonn must have lost fighting Darth Maul before getting skewered). You can do things like describe feeling the heat from the blaster bolt as it reflects from your saber, or being pelted by the debris from a nearby explosion. You don't have to just roll a tumble check... you can describe how your charachter flips over the head of a bounty hunter, reflecting blaster fire in an overhead arc, landing behind him ready to attack... all that kinda stuff. And sometimes failure is even more fun to describe... like Han blowing his deception check in the Death Star... "everything's fine... we're all fine here... how are you?" Have fun with it!
So, be descriptive! Don't just say "I shoots da mans.". Talk about the ozone stink of the blaster bolts (does blaster fire even have a smell?) I don't know! But you can talk about it.
Ack....a DSP point for that? Eesh. Guess I need to be more specific with Ben's actions to indicate when he's doing something in anger or just self-defense. I didn't intend for Ben to be depicted as giving into his passion so much as just struggling internally with the darker part of his psyche.
"Ben totally killed this dude in the friendliest manner possible. He also donated money in the dead badguy's name to the local animal shelter."
I kid of course...but I would like to know what your rules on DSPs are. Each GM is different. I intend for Ben to definitely have issues with the Dark Side, but I want to be as informed as possible on this. Will killing someone always result in a dsp?
Killing will not always result in a DSP. Killing in self-defense will usually not get a dark side point. However, the only window (well, reliable window) I have into Ben's mind is your posts.
So if you tend to always post stuff along the lines of what you did, deriving pleasure in the act of ending the life of another (which is how I interpreted your post), I'll usually consider that a questionable act for a Jedi.
I undersstand your stance and I am willing to reconsider of you can explain why you might think otherwise. However, I think this DSP sets the tone of the game going forward, in regards to Ben at least.

Very helpful. And I'm fine with the DSP really...reading my post I can tell it alludes to a sense of pleasure from killing. I just wanted to get an understanding of what you were looking for when making that decision. Thanks man.
