I don't get why people are shitting all over this year. I saw a lot of fucking good movies. Last year and the year before that I could only think of a few, but this year I'm struggling to catch up on everything.
There is literally a dozen movies I want to see playing right now in the city next to me. I think that's a first.
I saw a lot of bloody amazing movies
Just
None of them got nominated for Oscars.

But not for best picture.
Rotten Tomatoes scores have nothing to do with the Academy Awards.
That being said, The Muppets is much more deserving than Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.
So is Drive, Take Shelter, Melancholia, Terri, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Meek's Cutoff, Beginners, Rango, Tyrannosaur, The Mill & The Cross, Bridesmaids, Young Adult, A Dangerous Method and probably a lot of other movies I can't think of off the top of my head.
The point is, there were a lot of great movies this year and only ten can be picked. No matter what, movies will be snubbed. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close getting the best picture nomination is bullshit, but everything else makes sense. Is it the list I would have made? No. But no list would satisfy everyone.
And hey, the Academy is entitled to their opinions like everyone else. I think it's a mostly fine list this year.
The exclusion of Albert Brooks and Michael Fassbender is fucking criminal.
But like I said, there were a ton of great movies and performances this year and not everything can get nominated. With only a few exceptions, most of the nominations are quite deserving. That's good enough for me. I'll keep on loving those movies that didn't get any recognition, and I'll enjoy getting to indulge in a little guessing game with the ones that did.
And besides, even if all the other awesome movies that came out this year got nominated, I'd bet money that one of the ones listed would win it anyway. The Artist, Hugo and The Descendants are already on that list. I doubt they could be trumped.

Eh, I can't disagree about some snubs being inevitable, but I do wonder about some of the Academy's choices, and the motives behind them.
Basically, the Academy sucks, and there should be an award show exclusively dedicated to viewer's choices, because I can guarantee you those will be a lot more honest.
EDIT: I'm dumb. Though I think the point about the Academy has some degree of merit.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close got in for the same reason as The Blind Side, they wanted to honour a particular actor or actress. It makes sense and I can kind of respect it, but it's still shitty and I get to be mad because I wanted a Fassbender movie to get in.

I thought The Blind Side got in because that was the first year that the Academy upped the amount of movies nominated for Best Picture from 5 to 10
That was the only reason Up got nominated
I thought Up was fantastic, yes, even best animated film of that year, but best film of that year?

I hope they perform the song and beat whatever that Rio song is - it'll make up (only a little) for "The Rainbow Connection" losing the Oscar.

Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
I want to get two people banned with this year's prize
That was hilarious
Steam
Something about an extremely NSFW comic celebrating Natek's win, featuring dicks aplenty, that Yaya posted, and was promptly banned for
At least I think that's what happened, it was a year ago so I can't exactly remember it

his prize was..
provocative

Viewer's Choice awards?
No I'm pretty sure allowing the public to vote on these things is a horrible idea

Herp derp, it's me, I'm the dumb.
I don't know, even if the Viewer's Choice would be dumb, at least it there wouldn't be a bunch of snubs "for the sake of art and the theater."
Can I change my suggestion to this?
