Moon
I Love You, Man

I'd say it was a pretty good year. And I'm positive I'm missing a few notable titles.

You know what would absolutely never have happened but would have been great to see? If The Mill & The Cross got nominated for visual effects. It has some of the most creative and intriguing use of green screening I've ever seen.
A Serious Man is difficult for me to form an opinion on. Pretty fucking dark film.
I enjoyed it, but yes! And that ending!

I'm weird with period pieces and the like in that I never want to sit down and watch them, but if I happen to be there and they come on I always enjoy them

I've only seen A Serious Man once but it keeps running through my head even over a year later.

I'm much the same way. Even if there's a period piece that I know looks great and I'll probably love, it takes me forever to finally get around to watching it. I'm just never in the mood.

Yeah. I pretty much have to watch "serious" movies as soon as I want to watch them or I never get around to it

Same. I'm really impulsive with my movie watching, so I tend to watch them alone.
I like to watch serious movies in the movie theatre, otherwise I just can't devote enough time and patience to them. I watched Winter's Bone on Netflix the other day and while recognising its good qualities I just kept on getting so distracted and really only paid attention to about half of it.
I loved, loved, loved There Will Be Blood in the movie theatre, but I'm not sure when or if I'll ever rewatch it... it really did require that dark, silent room.
I didn't enter on the forums but I got 19/24 which I think tied my score from last year. I also didn't see any of the movies and made my choices based entirely on standard Oscar decisions and buzz. Compared to last year where I did see all the movies.
Pretty much the most boring of years. From the moment they announced the nominations to the end of the show, all of it was completely mediocre. I get that there was probably some difficulty after the whole Brett Ratner thing but Billy Crystal was a horrible choice for host. The entire time it felt like he escaped from the 80s and wanted to remind us at every opportunity. Granted this played into the nostalgia of going to the movies thing they were going for. But honestly every single Oscars uses the same theme so fuck it.
Also I thought it was stupid they were cutting down the original song category and cutting out the performance aspect of the music categories, which has always been entertaining. So here is an idea, you got Cirque Du Soleil doing a performance about the joys of going to the movies or something. Which was great. Why not have them do a performance to the movie scores that were nominated?
I didn't hate the Oscars this year or find it boring, but I agree with everything you said, Monkeyfeet. Those 3 things were definitely the worst parts of the ceremony, especially Crystal, although he did have his good moments (the camera panning around the stars and focusing on Scorsese for a minute)

It's a tighter film, certainly, but I wouldn't call it better. They're both absolutely brilliant movies by some of the best directors working today.

I'm sure its not the first time, but still.
Those two are usually tied together I think?

What? What does that have to do with anything?
Won best director and not best picture

I mean, it wasn't a bad movie, but it wasn't any better than just "pretty good".

Fair enough!
That or Up.
Actually, Up probably would've been better.
I enjoyed it, but yes! And that ending!
Just look at that parking lot, Larry!

The ending was just a cherry on top of a story about a man having (and to an extent letting) life shit all over him.

I still kick myself for not entering last year, as I would've beaten you!
But this year I hadn't a clue... about anything, really!
Yeah, I only recall the last 4 years, and only barely, that's why I asked.
