I am super-prone to cowlicks, and since I cut my hair, I don't have the weight of it to help control them. It gives me the world's most untamable bedhead. The one downside to having short hair, I guess. Gotta wash my hair every day, or at least get it wet. Sometimes I just condition it.

So I have been thinking that with this paycheck I might splurge on some makeup basics.
Given, say, 75 dollars, what would you guys recommend I purchase?
Things I do have:
Foundation and powder
Blush
Mascara which is quite nice but I never use
Several shades of eyeshadow
That's honestly it. I have sponges for appying the foundation and powder and blush.
So, if you guys were to give me your favourite few essentials that I'm lacking, I'd appreciate it.

the next thing I would buy is face primer, if you don't have any
and then eyeliner because god I love me a good eyeliner
otherwise it'd be bronzer, but that's because I don't use blush very often but I love contouring my face with a bit of bronzer
Bronzer always makes me look far too dark! My skin is lighter than I think. My current foundation is also too dark I think, probably because it's winter and I haven't been outside much.
Viv, like bits I have been following your make up posts religiously. Posts on what brushes to use and the basic eyeshadow shades to have work for any reader, I think.
Tasty, I am also not entirely sure of my skin, except it's sensitive. It's like super dry but also oily at times and my chin is so broken out and ugh.
Viv, I too wash my hair every day and just leave it to dry. As long as it's well aired it's fine. Honestly I know some girls with my type of hair who do the whole wash every other day or every three days thing and I honestly can tell when it's not been washed and I think their hair always looks too greasy for my liking on the second or third days so... I'll continue to wash mine every day! I've never thought it's done any harm to my hair, but I do only use a little shampoo, and mild brands.
normally no because sulfates are usually used to build lather, and dry shampoos don't lather
excellent! I'll have to look into these.
I'm pretty sure everyone is familiar with my hair routine by now! I get it wet/co-wash almost every day but shampoo maybe twice a month or so with sulfate-free shampoo. I have a pretty weird shower schedule since I'm in grad school - I shower the afternoon/evening before if I have a morning class, and every other day I tend to shower whenever I feel like it. I think when I have a consistent schedule I'll probably be a night shower person because I don't like going out with wet hair, and I also don't like blow-drying my hair.
Your hair always looks fantastic, though, bits, and honestly I really wish I didn't have such fine, silky-smooth hair; it may dry quickly, and it may dry straight, but those are about its two only great qualities!
Lost Salient - I agree with Viv, eyeliner and primer. My personal preference is also for eyebrow pencil - if I had one make-up item this'd be it - but that's because I yearn for darker, thicker eyebrows.

I am pretty impressed. It was easy to apply and it does give very natural looking lashes. I took a 3 hour nap in it, and it smudged only on one eye. It was also pretty easy to remove, even with my lack of make-up remover.
The tin is tiny, and my only complaint would be that it wasn't really filled full - probably only 3/4 full. But, as a little goes a long way, I don't see myself running out any time soon.
Also I am still impressed with Bunny Butt Apothecary's deodorant, I got the Bunnies are from Venus scent, and it is gooorgeous, lasts all day and yet isn't too strong.
how neat! I've never seen cake mascara before. I am intrigued by cake eyeliner, though.
thanks for the hair compliment, janson! it does require a bit of babysitting when it's drying in order to achieve the volume I like, and it takes forever to dry, but I am pretty lucky with it most days.

@Tastypastry: I used cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil. It never cleared me up but it never made my skin worse, and it was a cheap way to moisturize my skin. If I don't use it often I find that when I do it really unplugs clogged pores and blackheads (you see them come out, eww!). Once I start using it more regularly it doesn't seem to do that anymore.
I typically gave it a few minutes to absorb before splashing a bit of water on my face to separate remaining oil on my face so I could wipe it away with a towel. This way I would remove excess oils
NYX Eyeshadow discovery: I love Sahara up on my browbone, Champagne on my lids, and Deep bronze in my crease/outer-v. Looks so good, dressy but demure. Without Deep Bronze it looks a bit more understated and helps me look awake.
I know! I want to order another stick soon for my hospital bag (so I can continue to use one and know that I won't forget to have it packed) and I really can't decide whether to try another scent or just stick with the current scent, as I like it so much.
I'm happy to have found a deodorant I finally like, and that doesn't stain my clothes! And I know it's not an anti-perspirant, but I do feel dryer when I have it on.

You're welcome!
And I figured all my mascaras end up drying out anyway, I may as well buy one that starts out dry! I don't have a whole lot of experience with mascaras, though, so I can't compare it to others, but I shall definitely be wearing it again and see how long it lasts!
I just read the description of bunnies from venus and I am totally sold. rose, jasmine and sandalwood are three of my favorite scents. although hunnysuckle and mango lassi also speak to me...hmm. but I'm not allowed to buy anything! I should stop looking!
@Lost Salient Also, if you have things like dark circles or uneven skin tone, or are prone to blemishes, a good concealer can be worth its weight in gold.
Speaking of which, does anyone have any good recommendations for an under-eye concealer? I have L'Oreal's True Match concealer currently, and it's great for the red blotches at the corners of my nose and mouth, but it is inadequate against my dark circles. I have the leakiest capillaries ever and pretty pale skin, so they're pretty bad even if I'm rested.

I can vouch for cake eyeliner. Before I lost it I used to use Ben Nye Aquacolor in black, and it worked great. The only thing about it was the drying time but I felt like I had a great degree of control and it looked good.

Haha, I'm sorry!
It is SO good though, at least, I think so. I can detect the rose, but it is not overly flowery. It is quite light, and not too heavy.
Mango lassi's speaking to me, too... Perhaps I'll buy it myself and let you know.
@muse, excellent! I will keep an eye out for cake eyeliner.

Fun facts:
Beets make for incredible, long lasting blush. My mom was telling me what she and her foremothers used to use for makeup when living in Mexico, seeing as they all grew up poor. "Did you know you can rub beets on your cheeks for blush?"
We happened to have some beets in the fridge for whatever reason (we don't eat them so who knows why we had them so I decided to test it). I halved a beet with a knife and rubbed it on my cheeks.
It works really well actually.
And it lasted all day.
And now I can never buy tints and stains because they are expensive and beets are so cheap and I've ruined that makeup for myself.

YES, all the so much yes, eyebrows are often neglected beyond plucking/waxing them but filling them in, particularly if they are sparse/pale, makes a huge difference!!!
@MadEddy, I've had good results with Benefit's Boi-ing concealer, it's opaque enough to hide the dark undereye stuff but isn't cakey or dry and doesn't crease

Okay I'll look at eyeliners and primer. Do you guys have any brands you'd recommend? Also I was thinking I'd get one or two nice brushes, since I have... zero.
I'd get bronzer because I am literally corpse-like only they don't sell it here.
I have very thick, dark brows, so I don't know that an eyebrow pencil is necessary for me. Observe:
(I've been sick for a week and am unshowered, excuse the bags under the eyes.)
Would an eyebrow pencil actually be so much better that I should look at getting one?

do you use it just for dark circles or can it also be used for puffiness? I'm thinking it looks a bit too thick for puffiness but I could be wrong!
Gel Eyeliner
Pricey - Bobbi Brown Longwear Gel Eyeliner or MAC Fliudline
In-between - Inglot Eyeliner Gel
Cheap - Maybelline Drama Eye Studio Gel Liner

Good question, my application is probably wrong. I try it swept over (non existent) cheekbones?
I have a bronzer my very pale faced friend uses and likes, so it's probably what I'm doing with it rather than the bronzer itself.
I also need face primer! Still got that NYX voucher.
Bits/lost, your eyebrows are fine! Mine are so much paler/more sparse. I find pencil just fills in the gaps for me and I also like to do more of a defined line, ala wam's retro look.
