@Vivixenne, I haven't noticed any help from the Boi-ing with puffiness, but I use an undereye cream pre-makeup so that might be taking care of any I have
@Janson, I am totally going to try that Bunny Butt deodorant, I'm torn between Pirate Booty and Swing Low Sweet Lemongrass!
I have absolutely the worst luck with my lower lid eyeliner creasing/migrating/vanishing and I feel like I have complained about this before and whine whine whine. I need to try going back to a powder liner instead of a pencil liner but even with finishing spray and a primer pencil liner still migrates around my face and it drives me CRAZY.

set it with a similar color eyeshadow; this seems to stop it wandering all over the place for me
@world as myth thanks for the rec! I have the pro-x too. how often do you use it? I use it probably twice a week and am wondering if I should up that.
I try to use mine every night. it really takes off a crapload of makeup by itself (which is sort of making the brush look grody, but what are you gonna do)
every morning after I use it, my skin is a dream! maybe every day is too much, but I try to switch between mild cleansers and exfoliants so it's not too harsh all the time.

Welll I didn't get a chance to go makeup shopping today, but I was catching up on my backlog of newsletters and what have you and stumbled across a blog called No More Dirty Looks, which appears to be mostly about beauty and makeup, and through that a website called Portland General Store which is recommended as a great source for men's products. Maybe I'm just a sucker for packaging but some of their stuff looks really nice. I am thinking I might do some birthday gifting.

I guess there is something to be said about grooming and beauty that can initially repel or attract. If I wanted attention I would style myself differently and have had comments made to that effect, "You need to look more natural" and personal experience seems to give these comments some clout but . . . I don't care.
I love makeup and long nails and heels too much, don't care if they don't give the best first impression.

That Yahoo article.
That article has reminded me of why I studiously avoid both Yahoo in general and women's magazines.

Well, she does say it's easy to get "a man" to have sex with you, not "a man you'd want to fuck."
I went and read the original article. I am so glad I have the kind shills folks at Allure to explain this mysterious, monolithic species known as man to me. I would have never known that hair feathers are to a man what mice are to elephants. Now to buy the products they linked so I don't die alone!

Yeah the chick is obviously being humorous in the article to further point out how ridiculous the claims are.
And seriously, some of it is purely personal opinion stuff! I think things like bright colored and sparkly nails are neat!
Sometimes they take something that is true and they just take it way into the extreme.
Like, I get compliments for how soft my skin is. Which indicates that at least some men have an appreciation for a woman that doesn't feel like she has scales. (Or that he's just trying to be kind and looking for something he can compliment you on.)
I really doubt that anyone I'm seeing seriously will push me out of bed because my elbows are having a dry day...
I loveeeee matte nail polish. I want a matte top coat! my favorite nail polish of all time is OPI's suzi skis in the pyrenees in matte (which I haven't been able to find).
so tonight I get my annual free dinner for being a graduate student of color. how acceptable is it to wear a sleeveless dress + tights/boots? I have no dresses with sleeves but there's snow on the ground, so I would feel a bit weird wearing something summery.

Yes that sounds lovely! And also fits the season as you can't really wear a summer dress.
my department's pretty lily-white (as are, I suspect, most graduate departments at this school) so it's an opportunity to meet people of color from other departments, since there's not a lot of interaction between different areas of study. and of course there's free food.

So I decided to sign up for Julep Maven. It's similar to Birchbox, but with nail polish and you get to pick which box you get. There's a bunch of coupon codes online to get your first box for $5 (It's regularly $20). The other nice thing about it is you can choose to skip a month, or gift your month to a friend.
I'm pleased with the quality of the nail polish. It's not streaky, and I felt like I got good coverage with one coat. They have nice colors, and in the box I got they included cuticle oil, which is a nice roller ball applicator.
The bottles are a little small though, .27 fl oz, compared to .5 fl oz with my Essie polishes. I don't think I'd buy many of their polishes alone without the box ($14 for a bottle, or $11.20 with the Maven discount).
Edit: Actually, there's a code to get your first month for $.01. COLOR2012 - I just tested it for funsies and it does work. It looks like if you live in Washington, you have to pay state sales tax on it. Everyone else can get free shipping and no tax.
@muse among men I really like the AHA lotion thus far! I'm using it every other night and I have already noticed it's doing wonders for my hyperpigmentation.
Phone posting because whenever I try to open a thread on my laptop I get the "bonk" page and I am too lazy to figure it out. My post count is about to plummet!

Thanks Viv. I know I can buy Bobbi Brown here. And it looks like I can get Smashbox at... well, at one single department store, but I'll take it.
