You don't have to be a good person to kill bad people.

That's true, but the point is that he never gets revenge on his own people when they shit on him, and he continually makes dire personal sacrifices for them regardless of the constant mistreatment.

He sticks Maiv in a prison forever. I'd say thats revenge, at least since she's really the only night elf who has actively shat on Illidan.

That may be a newer event of which I am not aware, and since TFT he's gone insane so that can't really be counted. Also, um, she's not the only night elf who's ever shat on him. Did you play RoC or TFT? Every time he's on screen, somebody is shitting on him. It's like they outsourced that character to a German studio.

On top of that, Maiev's (sp?) constant efforts to capture, kill, or imprison him are the sort of thing that might get in the way of his efforts to assist his people. And she basically lost her balance in TFT as well, just sort of became hell-bent on capturing him, no matter what it cost.

She's just doing what she took an oath to do. Illidan didn't take an oath to be batshit crazy.

She's in some underground prison being guarded by the leader of the ashtongue's. Although even hes looking to betray Illidan, so those two are probably working something out.

None of this undermines the argument that Illidan is a self-sacrificing hero. Or was, when he was sane.

Vashj enjoys Kael's company much more than Illidans, at least according to wowwiki. Still not sure who she is working for at the moment, though. None of the coilfang (the dungeon hub where she is) instances have any elves or demons. Though one of them has some gnome slaves.

People are currently working on the 25 man part of coilfang where you kill her, I'm sure her defeat will answer some questions (like what the fuck she's doing with all that water).

Vashj was also conveniently absent from Illidans crusade to rescue Tyrande, which is the closest thing he's done that could be considered "for his own people"

She herself was absent, yeah. But the naga forces were not.

Also, killing Tychondrius was a pretty nice thing to do.

And making two attempts at destroying the frozen throne was also pretty OK.

All in all, he's done a lot of nice stuff for people who treat him shit.

He was manipulated into killing Tychondrius by Arthas, so now you can't say Arthas didn't do anything nice.

And both attempts at destroying the Frozen Throne were only done at the behest of Kil'Jaeden, who threatened him with death upon failure, but unfathomable demonic power, should he succeed.

Everything he did, he did to further ensure his life, and power. Yes, there were a few times where he tried to redeem himself, and everytime he succumbed to demonic power.

    Now, he's just batshit insane.

I just don't know where you're getting this 'sacrifice' thing, from. Illidan has been hell bent on power his whole life.

He sold out Malfurion because destroying the Well of Eternity would cause Illidan to lose his strength in magic.

He sold his soul to Sargeras so he could gain even more power, and then joined what he thought would be the winning side between Malfurion and Azshara.

Instead of destroying the skull and restoring the forest, he allowed Arthas to tempt him with Gul'dan's power, he consumed the skull, killed a common foe of both the Night Elves and the Undead, then ran to Outland.

Agreed to obey the will of Kil'Jaeden for more promises of power.

I'm just failing to see where all this self sacrifice stuff is coming from. Sure, the key isn't a dick like Arthas, but he's no hero.

OK, please, not this EU shit. I'm talking about the stuff that was in the game, in WC3:RoC and WC3:TFT. My whole point is that I feel like they've retconned him into being a villain, so pointing out villainous shit that he did IN THE PARTS OF THE STORY THAT I'M ACCUSING OF BEING RETCONS doesn't make any point at all. And in WoW he's insane, so it's hard to judge his actions at that point.

OK, maybe my memory is clouded here, but I seem to remember that he NEEDED the skull's power to get Tychondrius out. That without the skull, he couldn't kill him. He "ran to outland" because Furion banished him, presumably as a way to thank him for sacrificing yet another portion of his soul.

Also, Tychondrius was NOT a foe of the undead at the time. The major undead faction at that point, because Archimonde was still around, was the Legion. Tychondrius was a loyal and powerful servant of the Legion. Arthas was breaking away from the Legion, which, at the time, was helpful to the night elves. Only later did Arthas become a major problem; only AFTER Archimonde, Mannoroth, and Tychondrius were all dead.

But what did he actually do? Like I said, he'll agree to whatever, but look what he DOES. He will take power from anywhere, but the only people he consistently attacks are the undead who threaten the Night Elves. He has no problem backstabbing or lying to any of his allies, but he always does so in a way that benefits the night elves.

This "self-sacrifice" stuff comes from that he sold his soul for this power, which he consistently, throughout all of RoC and TFT, uses to aid the Night Elves. The only Night Elf he ever opposes is Maiev, and it's easy to argue that his reason is that she's trying to kill him with magic poisoned daggers.

I hope for your sake that they've actually made a proper IMAX version, and it's not that shit that doesn't use the IMAX sound and only projects on a small part of the screen.

So I get a call today from my friend Matt who works in child care.
I had recently lent him my collector's edition of the 300 hardcover graphic novel. Apparently one of the people he babysits for on the side saw him reading it when they got home after he watched their kids all night. This same person used to work in the movie industry and gets free tickets and pre-screening VHS tapes regularly. So what this means is I get to see 300 for free with my friends because this dude is wicked cool and got us some free passes.
    So awesome.

Yeah, nothing ever looks or sounds better on imax.

    That's just crazytalk.

    just saying:

the resolution to have a quality 70mm print from a digital intermediate is a lot higher than anything anyone uses now. most companies use a 2K scan to cover 35mm, and even then, it's not so amazing on the big screen, you can see artifacts and outlining of layers. now getting 35mm blown up to 70mm has been researched and refined, but most of those tests are just concerned with critical focus and grain, not the perception of composited effects. getting a digital intermediate meant for 35mm blown up to 70mm (or get the finished 35mm print and get that blown up to 70mm) is still a process that's going through refinement and isn't really there yet.

Sound systems depend on the theatre. Imax's system is set up to be loud and evenly distributed, but not so much with panning to individual channels. IMAX sound will cover the room evenly, and the loudness is something you don't experience usually. but a newer theatre with a properly set up DTS system would sound better, provided the movie was mixed in 5.1, because it's made for panning sound around the audience, and you can have a lot more range in the frequences and volumes.

i just think it'll look and sound better in a regular theatre, if you're really excited about seeing it in the best quality possible.

So, what your saying is I got ripped off by seeing LOTR in IMAX, since it was the same size screen and virtually the same sound but cost me more to watch?
